• What it feels like to get a GTX 1080

I have a 970 and tons of regret on not getting a 1070. Oh well at least this will hold out for some time.
Just upgraded from a laptop with a 670MX in it to one with a gtx 1060 (no m, nvidia has dropped mobile versions of cards), and what a fuckin world of difference it makes. No frame drops on anything, I can run ark at max settings and maintain about 30fps, and even all the VR games I've tried out work great with it. I imagine a 1080 has got to be some wild shit
I have a cheapo 950 that I'm gonna replace with a 1060 (tight budget) soon Eh. Good enough, I guess.

I made the jump from an HD 6970 to a GTX 1070 and hooo nelly I never thought I'd own a GPU that was as powerful as the Titan X, let alone more powerful. The main threshold for me to upgrade was that Arkham Knight was literally unplayable due to an under-minimum-requirements GPU, but now I can max it out, along with likely any other game I own. Games I thought might be locked out of a proper experience due to a bottle necked GPU are no longer a worry. :> [editline]6th September 2016[/editline] ALTHOUGH it is kind of shitty that PhysX doesn't seem to behave with it.
1060 is just above a 970 so may as well go and get a 1070 instead

Why not wait a little and save up for a 1070 at least
Mostly because of impatience, lol. You guys are right though, I'll just wait a little longer and get a 1070 instead :v:
I'm gonna probably save up my money before getting the AMD card.
the card itself costs as much as my budget for my build :(
1060 is just above a 970 so may as well go and get a 1070 instead
Much closer to a 980 than a 970, and while a 980 will outperform it under normal circumstances the 1060 should outperform the 980 in VR due to Pascall's architecture being designed to support faster stereo rendering.
and now you can get a broadwell-e with a desktop gtx 1080 inside a latop with an option for water cooling in the back. This is fine.

i built a new pc for my brother with a 1070 in it and it's fucking amazing. when i get some money together i'm upgrading.
I'm fine with my not ti 980 for now probably because I'm still using a 1080p monitor
I've got a 200 dollar laptop with a pentium. I get 30 frames at the most in CSGO. Kill me now.
I don't know about you guys, But i purposefully put a FPS Cap on my games to reduce heat and to make sure my card stays consistent. I don't think i'll ever get that feeling till 2018-2019. Oh and before you ask i put a 60fps to 120fps cap depending on the game and my limit of comfort is around 60c. The only game that pushed the 60c mark was the new doom game.
I wish i had enough money for just a 1060, a 760 is fine but its just such a first world problem.
i just upgraded from the 760 to the 1060. it's such a dramatic improvement i can't even imagine what it would've been like to get a 1080
I'm upgrading from my 660 soon to a 1060. I'd go for more but I have about a $1000-$1200 budget and I'd like an i7.

It's sort of sad that my 970 is already feeling sort of old, and I've only had it for just over a year or so. I mean, the GTX 580 I had before it felt like it was lasting forever. There wasn't a game out at the time that I couldn't run at the highest settings, 1080p, 60+ FPS. Hell, I'd probably still be sporting it if it didn't die. As for the 1080, I think I'll just hold out for the next gen of NVIDIA GPUs before upgrading. There's no doubt that the 1080 is a beast of a card, but my 970 is still pushing through most games at 1080p with ease. Maybe I'll get an 1180 with my first 4K monitor or something... Well, assuming they ever make 144hz IPS panel 4K monitors in the near future.
I got an R9 390 a few months ago - AMD's equivelant to the 970/980. I struggle to get 30-40 FPS on Battelfield 1. It is such a struggle.

It is such a struggle.
i have the 4gb version of GTX660 and my BF1 framerate on Medium is around the 40-60 mark, with sand storms sometimes dropping it to around 30 it would be nicer to have higher framerates of course, and on higher settings, but the the game is gorgeous enough even on Medium and the frames completely playable for me so i'm not complaining yet

Weirdly enough, 100% means 2x native res in that game I think or something, and for some weird reason also 42% is apparently native res. Not sure how accurate this info is now since i haven't played the beta for a couple of days.

Possibly it is my CPU bottlenecking (Intel Boxed Core I5-6500 FC-LGA14C 3.20 Ghz). This is the only game that this happens to me.

Try switching your priority on the task manager to high, it should give you about 10-20 fps.
what does it feel like to get two 1080s in sli?
As the owner of a Pitan overclocked to 2100/6000 on air, which is the equivalent of two stock 1080s in SLI (170% of single 1080) it feels like getting a blowjob from a toothless supermodel with two tongues.
Hopefully you are going to be working on videos or shit like that, otherwise an i7 isn't really worth it.
With dx12 and climbing rez and a fuckton of post processing being the norm those days are over, unless you plan on sub 60 sub 1080 gaming forever.
