Bill Gates never finished college and lots of famous/successful people never went to college. College is just something that helps you get a job.
Yes, but people who are gifted enough to make shitloads of money are able to finish college.
Good thing science and maths are my favourite subjects :D
Should've clarified. Some people have skills that other people don't and that way get ahead of people. If that guy would study construction workin ie. in a vocational school, he'd get better salary and more challenging work. (Not saying that he hasn't been through anything to that sort. Just an example.)
You're trying to justify 90k in student loans aren't you
Most places the employ people want to you to either have experience or some form of qualifications or both. So yeah it's good to have a diploma in something.
You're trying to justify 90k in student loans aren't you
What are you talking about?
Having just a High School Diploma on your resume will land you almost any low paying job from flipping burgers to maybe running a store... if you are lucky. Ive heard from my Career Teacher that more and more jobs are looking for College degrees or education.

Unless you are one of the very lucky few now days you're pretty much fucked if you don't pursue some form of higher education past whats required
You're trying to justify 90k in student loans aren't you
...and this is the main reason why I'm sticking with this job for now. :gonk:
Who wouldn't want an educated and skilled employee?
exactly EVERYTIME somebody sees College Education over no education. they will choose the College student. I honestly dont know why some people dont go to College. get a small job and get some support from your parents and take out butt loads of student loans.
exactly I honestly dont know why some people dont go to College. get a small job and get some support from your parents and take out butt loads of student loans.
Easier said than done. Many people can't get support from their parents or don't want to, and rising prices and inflation means that unless you save up, you're going to be strapped for cash all the time when you have to pay for college related things AND bills, expenses, etc unless you're living with your parents, and even then you're paying for car insurance and other misc. things. Oh, and have fun owing $90K worth of your cash to your school. :buddy: The smartest plan is to progress slowly with your classes so you don't have to dig yourself out of that hole. Full-time college is a bad idea when you have a failing economy and a shaky job environment. College is a must for any job these days, but doing it all at once will leave you in agony for the next few years as you pay off all of that debt you racked up, or in the worst case, try to even find a job to pay it off.
Yes. On average a college educated person makes a million dollars more in their lifetime than they would have had they not gone to college.
You could try joining the FAA. That is a great job and will pay more then most other jobs in the market. But you must be able to pass the extensive background checks. Oh and it can be stressful at times..
Worth the space: [/img] /thread You know its funny, I pasted this assuming it would help the subject, since it was entitled "Is College Worth It" BUT IT DOESN'T REALLY HELP AT ALL
LOL Suny Plattsburgh is the city I live in:D
Yes, you should go. What if the job market suddenly changes due to a brilliant invention and opens up a million new jobs for educated college graduates? You wouldn't be included...
you'd think they'd have it in place where you have to be BORN there to get the benefits.
Wait, you think you need to have been born in Europe to get the benefits? As long as you're a legal citizen you could be a penguin and get the benefits.
Go live in the forest and don't come back please.
Slenderman!!!! LOL Anyway I am gonna go to college.
Yeah you're right you shouldn't go to college. That would make one less dumb person going to college.
Maybe a community college would be better for you.
Maybe a community college would be better for you.
Oho shit :iceburn:
Yes. Don't be a Lawyer or a Doctor just because you'll be making money. Choose a career that you like. I like science and I've been keeping fish for my entire life. I'm going to go into Marine Biology after high school.
Your not because I am going to be a Marine Biologist before you and then declare that OvB kills rare fish. Then you won't be allowed near fish
lets see here.. make $20k in a year, or spend $20k in a year. school/work for 4 years. you either make or lose $80k think about it
lets see here.. make $20k in a year, or spend $20k in a year. school/work for 4 years. you either make or lose $80k think about it
After that you make 50k a year think about it
Bill Gates never finished college and lots of famous/successful people never went to college. [editline]04:47PM[/editline]
After that you make 50k a year think about it
Then possibly make 80k a year.
get up in the ranks in the military and you can make six figures, no need for college
College could teach you crap all and it'd still be good. Post secondary education has come to be expected by employers. Regardless of whether it teaches you much or not, it looks good on your resume. [editline]12:54AM[/editline]
I wish I could've gone to college / uni. I'm not smart enough. :frown:
Academics and Intelligence are not one in the same. You could be dumb as a brick and you could still get into college because many academic courses rely on method training and routine, not your raw intelligence. I've met some incredibly stupid people that have high grades. Intelligence is your cognitive capacity and ability to solve a wide range of problems taking many factors into account. Having a good work ethic is enough to get you through highschool with good grades, and intellegence has nothing to do with your work ethic.
I was wondering, because it seems to most people in my grade that the end-game of highschool is college, and once they graduate college, that everything will be perfectly fine and dandy. "I'm going to be a doctor!" "I'm going to be a programmer!" And it just doesn't seem likely that college is the do-all end-all for getting a job. from what i've heard, even college educated people can't find jobs. And it's only really seemed to me that people who ever use their college educations are people who do research/teach (scientists + professors). So, tell me. Have you ever used a college education? also: Am I the only one who can't stand people who actually achieve? I mean there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a doctor or being a lwayer, or setting goals or working hard. But i just can't imagine choosing a career. Something that you'll be stuck with for the rest of your life. Day-in, day-out, doing the same thing over and over. I couldn't imagine deciding how you were going to live your life from such a young age. I just don't want to live a life where i know where it's going. that's boring.
College gives you the opportunity to choose something you love and would want to do for free if you had to. (Not saying you would, but you'd have to love it pretty damn much). It'd be much more enjoyable to get a decent education in something you want to do rather than working at a Best Buy, or other retail store for the rest of your life never having the opportunity to really make a decent living.
whoever said no won't get laid... trust me

I have a 3.0 GPA, which is not great, but not horrid. I am no genius, but I at least try to be open to new ideas and when I learn something, I usually will remember it, if its of enough significance in my mind. But I know some people that get 4.0+ and they are ignorant and dumb as all hell. Grades don't really show how intelligent you are, just how willing you are to temporarily memorize information, and parrot it back on a exam. While granted, a good studying habit IS a good thing, you don't need much intelligence to be good at studying. Intelligence comes in applying that information to something. [editline]09:10PM[/editline] Also I'm not trying to say people with really good GPA's are all idiots who think they are better than everyone else. I know some people who are great people, are hard workers and they get high grades because of it. And their intelligence shows when they make intelligent conversations about ideas they have and such and aren't completely fucking retarded.
This thread makes me sad to be in this time =(
