So spore with more penis possibilities?
That what I was thinking are people so unsatisfied with their lives they seek to recreate the entirety of what life is, in a video game?
That's not a very good argument. What they're proposing isn't "a recreation of what life is." The vast, vast majority of people will never experience what would be possible in a game like this, either out of fear of the consequences of actions in real life, or simply because they don't have the means. Even if they could, most people would never actually become thieves or warlords because they have something to lose in the way of their freedom or their own life, and because most people actually have some sense of morality and empathy, and would feel horrible about harming other real poeple. Video games, however, liberate you from these constraints, because no real people are actually being hurt, including yourself. So you don't need to feel guilty about doing things that would be harmful or even just downright disgustingly inhumane in the real world, and you don't have to be fearful of the consequences of such actions. Not to mention the fact that you're provided resources and physical prowess that most people don't have access to in the real world, giving you the means to do things that you simply couldn't otherwise. It has nothing to do with unhappiness with one's own life, it's one of most basic ideas of what makes video games fun, which is enabling people to do things that they are unable or unwilling to in their own lives. That said, this project is obviously never going to be completed, at least as these guys imagine it. What they're proposing isn't by any means an original concept, in fact it's probably one of the oldest game concepts ever. Hell, you could argue that it's a concept that well predates video games themselves. Yet it's never happened, because it's never been a possiblity, or at least never a realistic one. These guys might actually be trying to con people out of their money for all we know, but I think it's not unreasonable that they're just a bunch of ideas guys that got swept up by a concept that they could never actually bring into existence. This is most certainly an "ambitious" project, but ambition only does anyone any good if you actually have the means to pursue it.
It's not impossible. We just don't have that kind of technology yet.
It's not impossible. We just don't have that kind of technology yet.
So just like terraforming planets?
if this did happen, i wouldn't see how i would get past the prehistoric era.
most boring game of the year all years
So like a cross between Minecraft and Starforge. Basically.
Wasn't it called Outerra or something http://www.outerra.com/
Except the game won't look nearly that nice From what they are saying its going to look like fucking roller coaster tycoon 1 graphics Like I said before Isn't very interesting I'm actually more interested in outerra now [img_thumb]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aZSC4X4ZYiQ/T7-ckEt6q-I/AAAAAAAAAR0/o8ehqtmLKqc/s1600/screen_1337956756.png[/img_thumb]
Dude, RCT1 had wicked sick graphics.
Dude, RCT1 had wicked sick graphics.
Of course it did RCT1 and 2 look wicked cool 2013 graphics though Could be better
That what I was thinking are people so unsatisfied with their lives they seek to recreate the entirety of what life is, in a video game?
I dunno, for me I think it's more of a way to see how far our current technology can go, if something like this could be made well. The scale of it is just way too big though, it'll be entirely devoid of life because even if the entire population of the United States played it, the entire population would probably just be concentrated in a few locations.
The problem with a game like this is it would become to meaningful to you and potentially cause depression with loss of your characters stuff. Let me explain. With dayz for some people they can get very attached to their stuff and become very filled with rage or wtf just happened when they die and lose everything. Now that is only for some people but imagine taking that feeling and putting it into a city you built up for years to then watch it be burnt down to the ground by another players army. It could be very devastating as you did not put a few weeks or months into creating it but years. It would mean more to you than a lot of your real world possessions. 90% of games do not give you this feeling even many with perma death but this game would just be to real. You don't even need good graphics to create this feeling as some games have shown.

People who will get super attached to their items, hardcore and dedicated and the people who just fuck around and enjoy the ride. It'll be like DayZ's Bandit trauma, but worse
Another thing to think of is many games have an economy in the real world like TF2 this game would certainly have one and could destroy real lives as well. What if it grew so much people made their living from playing this game and a war breaks out and destroys their bushiness. They are fucked. I know that is a little extreme of a though but it seems possible. --------- A little example was that one time someone held a fake gun (I think it was fake) to someone over money on Runescape.
Whenever I hear of a game where you can shape humanity the way you want it I just want to point out it already exists. It's called the Civilization series. jaks Johnson 20 hours ago It's like minecraft mixed* with spore in a skyrim based survival game? EPIC [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] sigh
I actually liked it right until the end when it showed it zooming out of an iPhone Like you're going to have the ambitous of a project on an iPhone.
Doesn't top Peter Molyneux' pitch for the original Fable game.
I actually hope that this becomes completed. Others could pick flaws from that game, possibly encouraging others to improve and expand on that concept.
I actually hope that this becomes completed. Build a new game from the ashes of the old, with the vigor of the new. Call it Project Phoenix.
I could already tell it would look bad when the platforms it was going to be on included smartphones.
Wouldn't it be awfully boring and lonely to have an earth-sized game map?
Depends on how populated the server is and how quickly technology would progress. If it's as large as the Earth then that means you'd be quite isolated for a while; even if you created flight the distance would require realistic times to travel to new lands. I think it could be interesting if done right. But this is a project not to be tackled for a long while; we just don't have the capable technology.
Any playstyle you want...so long as it's survival-farming-empire-simulator.
haha, look at http://universeprojects.blogspot.com.au/ thats what it will look like :v: [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] and thats just the concept art, too

It's a 2D isometric game, not some fullscale 3D world :v:
are you guys blind? they said it was going to have different 'modes' for computers that might not be able to run it as well, isometric 2D and first person 3D. [editline]sds[/editline] if it looks like I am defending that the game will actually be released and do everything right, I'm not. It's just that they aren't even making it a 2d isometric game, it's supposedly supposed to be first person in 3 demensions
This has all been suggested before, in an increddibly bad grammared forum post somewhere by a 13 year old. They should fuck off.
Good luck actually programming that, along with finding a computer that can actually run an entire worlds worth of people.
America's Next Top Vaporware
If this has a kickstarter its a scam. This is the most bullshit thing in the world and developers arent retarded, they know this isnt possible at all. Anyone who thinks this is going to do what it says, or even be made, are brain dead. This isnt some magical fantasy world we live in where people say things and are true, no typography can change that.
