Hi, my name's Daniel Jackson and I work at the SCP facility in [DATA EXPUNGED]. I'm assigned to SCP-285, or as most of us staff have nicknamed it, the Stargate. It creates an artificial, stable wormhole between here and another point - not that we've created one. It also seems capable of receiving an incoming wormhole, which is why we've placed this thing called an iris over it - 20 interlocking titanium blades, placed 3 micrometers from where we believe the Event Horizon will materialize. It's ingenious - the space is too small for the matter to even reintegrate, meaning any bastards that try and come through will be vaporized.
So anyway, my job is to try and activate this thing. It has 39 symbols on the inner ring. We believe this is some kind of a combination lock - there was a cartouche with 6 of them on it back in Egypt when it was dug up - you see, it was found in Giza at a dig site. We've figured out how to start it working - using radio signals and chanelling energy, we can make the ring spin and the orange arrows we call chevrons lock on to the symbols. There's only 6 symbols though - and studies of the wormhole generator say although there's 9 chevrons, we only need to activate 7 to connect. I wonder what the hell is going on here? The cartouche wasn't damaged, so where's this seventh symbol? Anyway, the other day when we tried to dial, it [DATA EXPUNGED]

I've noticed something. Each of these symbols - well, all except one, are all star constellations. Using six location-based symbols - it's a set of co-ordinates! Not a combination lock, but a destination! And the one symbol that seems to not be a constellation is probably the seventh symbol. I've no idea what it might be - mabye a point of origin to indicate where the wormhole is coming from, or something like that. I'm sure - if I dial, it'll work.
Computer. Open iris. Here. If I place my palm on the scanner, it opens the iris. It's a bit of a pointless gadget, but I suppose it stops unauthorised use of the gate - either way. Now, if I enter the symbols on our dialling computer...
