Weiß jemand ob es irgendwo ein billigen Parking beim Flughafen von Frankfurt-Hahn gibt?
Hi alles. Ich have only been casually studying for a few years, with sometimes 1-2 months in between lessons. So my vocabulary is still pretty broken. I reminded my aunt in Hawaii that I've been trying to practice more. I wished her happy bday today via email and she responded in 100% German: "Nicht schlecht! Nachtisch war ausgezeichnet. Schokoladenkuchen, selbstgebacken. Lecker! Danke für deine Grüße!" My rough guess in translation: "Not too bad! Keep practicing or something like that?? Not even going to try nfi Delicious! Thank you for your wishes??" Ich werde lieben anyone that can help me translate this.
Any good free resources to learn German?
I've been using Mango Learn. You just need a public library card to use it for free. I like how it gives you a pronunciation spelling, although I wish they focused a bit more on spelling and grammar. I kind of had to back track after a few lessons because I realized I should pay more attention to the alphabet when learning new words, that way I rely less on the program teaching my pronunciation, as well as meaning.

The first line isn't so easy to translate without the context as it either could mean "Not bad!" or if you asked her a question before she could've answered with "it wasn't so bad!", but in that case she could've also instead writen "Es war nicht schlecht!". "Not bad! Desert was excelent chocolate cake, baked by myself Delicious! Thank you for your wishes!"

Why is it mehr is not always used after numbers? I was watching Berlin Syndrome last night, there was a scene where the character told some kids doing push ups "five more". I expected more to translate to mehr, but I didn't hear that. Going on to google translate, I notice for some numbers you do apply mehr, but others you apply weitere. Is this like the die, der, das thing, where depending on the gender or something, it gets a different word?
Oh you can just use both, while using "weitere" is a bit more formal On google translate there sometimes is this "answer quick questions to help make translate better" thingy, so different people probably got asked different "x more" questions to which they chose one or the other

Hallo alle, I'm heading to Berlin on the 18th and staying to the 5th of October, and I had a few questions I was hoping you folks might be able to help with. As a somewhat deferential and polite Canadian, I'm absolutely terrified of offending anyone with my altogether inadequate German. I studied it in University, but never really had a chance to become fluent. I find it relatively easy to read and understand, but my ability to come up with it on the fly leaves a lot to be desired. While I know many people over there speak English, I find the idea of going to someone else's country and speaking my language at them to be terribly rude. I'm trying to improve my German before I leave, but I'm sure I won't be entirely up to snuff by the time I get there. Are people likely to find my somewhat broken usage of the language offensive, or is it better to try and attempt to speak it and then possibly switch to English if I'm not understood? My partner also speaks French & Russian though I can't imagine those would be terribly useful. Secondly, I am travelling with my partner and we're both men (he's trans but it's quite difficult to tell). I know Berlin is an extremely progressive city, but I happen to come from a city with a similar reputation (Toronto) and know that there are still parts of town one might want to avoid. Is there anything we should watch out for? Lastly, does anyone have any suggestions for things to see/do there? This is my first time crossing the Atlantic and I'm quite excited. I spent much of my University years studying not only the German language but your history and culture as well. It's honestly bit overwhelming and I'm not entirely sure where to start. I'm not hugely into touristy things (taking pictures, gawking at stuff) and generally prefer to immerse myself in the places I travel to. We're also probably going to get train passes and spend a couple of days outside of the city as well, as one rarely gets much of a picture of a country in its largest city (similar to Toronto). Where, I'm still not entirely sure.
