most people you will need to speak to will probably speak some english anyway
Lastly, does anyone have any suggestions for things to see/do there? This is my first time crossing the Atlantic and I'm quite excited. I spent much of my University years studying not only the German language but your history and culture as well. It's honestly bit overwhelming and I'm not entirely sure where to start. I'm not hugely into touristy things (taking pictures, gawking at stuff) and generally prefer to immerse myself in the places I travel to.
Parts of the wall are still up, and theres some p sick street art/graffiti there. Also pro-tip: The bus line 100 will bring you along most of the major sights and cool places there are to see deep in the city, and they come by fairly frequently. There's also Tempelhofer Feld, which is the a site where there used to be an airport. Now it's just a huuuge flat area, where people can hangout and do all sorts of shit. Also we call our pancakes here eggcakes for some reason, if you ask for a pancake, they will serve you these. Also I wouldn't worry too much about imperfect german, we are used to tourists here all the time (downtown atleast), and most know english well enough.
The Olympic stadium from nazi times is also p cool
Also be sure to check out on the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

In kalifornien, ziemlich kalt
Seltsam, weil es vor kurzem höllisch heiß war
I have arrived in your lovely country, and am currently nursing my flight exhaustion in an airbnb in Steglitz, Berlin. The taxi driver only spoke broken German, and I quickly discovered that just writing the address down was the most efficient thing to do.
It's honestly a bit overwhelming. I've never crossed an ocean before, everything is new and weird to me.
If you really need a taxi again call a "minicar" next time. It's basically just cheaper with worse cars

I personally would recommend relying more on public transport in Berlin, rather than taxis/traffic. Traffic during working hours can be a pain in the ass from what I heard, and generally PT can get you anywhere remotely important relatively fast. I recommend the app Öffi for quick, live and easily readable timetables. Besides most of the cool shit is usually somewhere around stations.
Absolutely! We've found it super useful so far. Only reason we grabbed a taxi was convenience/jet lag. This city absolutely kicks Toronto's ass when it comes to public transport. Also the sheer volume of alcohol everywhere is kind of surreal; back home feels almost puritan in comparison. Boyfriend and I wandered Kreuzberg/Neuköln last night and had a great time in an adorable hole-in-the-wall gay bar. We ditched most touristy stuff in favor of just walking around, which has been delightful.
Even though I've never been, everything I hear about Berlin makes me think once I visit, I'd nickname it "bierlin". It just sounds like a total partytown, where alcohol replaces water.
Guys, how bad is AfD? Reading into german politics a little and as far as I can tell they are the equivelant of sverigedemokraterna in Sweden but I'm curious about details?
Just the usual fear mongering whataboutist party on the right side of the spectrum that every country seems to have now
Problem is that it seems to fucking work
