'later' being relative to the time they both meet and have the ceremony. From the doctors point of view as we understand it, they are not together yet. So later. Because in that 2 parter the doctor had only seen her once before and that was when she died.

My point was kinda meant to be a theory on who river is.
In the future of the doctors time line he will change time (because of something to do with the crack) and bring back his wife, she regenerates/becomes human and thats why he doesn't recognise her yet.
