I started with 3ds Max. Very user friendly (once you know how to use it). I would like to give Blender a try, but it's too complicated for my taste.
I started out with Blender then got in to maya, which is a badass program. I love it.

They ruined the sanctity of the tiling window manager paradigm. They had something cool going on, which is quite exceptional for open source, but noooo they had to think they could usability and fuck everything up. Plus it's white on black with no way to change it. White on black is unreadable and hard on the eyes.
Wings 3D. It's very easy to use.
I've been using 3ds Max for a while, and although I'm not very good with it still, I did find I was able to jump right into making simple things, and went on from there. I recently tried Maya, I'm still struggling with where everything is, but that's just because of switching..
