So not so much a graphic design-oriented question but an illustrator question. For doing radial geometry I attempted to use the transform effect tool, offsetting width and height and setting how many copies of the basic shape (gear tooth) that I wanted but it always came out at awkward angles with poor results, so eventually I resorted to attaching a long line to the tooth and rotating the grouped shape from that using the basic rotate tool and the copy command until I got the desired number of teeth, and it magically lined up with even gaps.
Of course then I had to ungroup the lines and delete them, etc.
Is there an easier way?

Doesn't Illustrator have a star shape tool that might allow you to achieve results? Dunno, I'm not to knowledgeable of Illustrator.

I worked on this today, which one do you prefer, if any?

I decided to try my hand a bit at making a magazine cover. Crits?
it's very generic, that's all about there is to say
[editline]19th July 2013[/editline]
and the type of 10 Reasons... is pretty inconsistent

have a look at the blend tool, it can be very powerful when used properly, but it'd need a bit of tweaking to work in this example

From my understanding youre trying to consistently rotate the gear teeth?
Set up something as a center point for reference.
From there, select what you want to move use the rotate tool, setting the origin point on the center point.
Set the angle you want and press "copy" instead of "okay". then just press control+D over and over.
The easiest way to go about this is to figure out the number of teeth you want, and divide it into 360 (i.e. you want 60 teeth, so you go 360/60, leaving yourself with 6), this number you get is the "angle" you set the rotate to.
The key is to use the copy command. That way, your object gets copied and set to the angle you wanted, then when you press control+d, it repeats this action from the previously copied selection.
If this isn't what you needed I apologize for the wall of rambling. Sorry this is all the help I can give!

Leading/line-height is inconsistent on the '10 reasons' copy. All copy under that block is also inconsistent.
Try not to use the arial typeface unless you have a reason for doing so. In this case, it just looks as default as default can get.
Wasn't planning on posting anymore internship stuff, but now I want to revive the thread. These are some concept, not final, wallpapers that will go on the Buccaneers' website that people can download.
The branding we're going to start trying out for this season is "smokey" as you can see. Last year everything just had a big flag in the background which I'm sure was a hell of a lot easier, but that look got old fast I assume.

Both of these guys are popular defensive players, so that's where the headline comes from.

Probably going to scrap this. You can't see a full schedule behind a bunch of iPad apps.
I wondered if anybody could make me a simple but sleek logo with the text;
JaykeGames
Would really appreciate it!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but how would you make an image like this? Like what programs/resources would you use? It doesn't look hand drawn which is why I ask.

I'd say it could be done in Photoshop, using separate photos for the animal, glasses, helmet, etc. A filter for the sharper edges between tones and lots of manipulation on the level/curves of individual elements.
I'm not good at this stuff. I'm just stealing ideas and colour palettes from Dribble. For some alternative version of the hammer editor

I like the colors, why don't you try making the stroking around the hammer a bit thicker?
have you thought of how you can adapt this idea to a computer icon?

I was working on a logo for a client, got frustrated halfway through and came up with something completely different. I like it, but I'm not sure how easy it is to discern the symbolism in it.

as it is right now, the balance is really weighted to the left and the type could use work i think. Try balancing it so the faces are both on the outside.

I see what you mean with the balance, I tried making the face on the right bigger and also did an alternative version with only one speech bubble and both faces on the outside.

Is there a reason the tails(?) aren't lined up with the rest of the bubble and there are dots outside of it?
Is there a reason the tails(?) aren't lined up with the rest of the bubble and there are dots outside of it?
this is exactly what I feared. They're meant to be faces, happy faces at that that are talking to each other. The dots are the eyes and the tails are out of line with the rest of the bubble as a way to hint the shape of a face, not actual human faces but more like... round smiley faces.
Now that you explained it I see it, but it's not really obvious when you first look at it.
I would just use the first one in the last image you posted, but get rid of the exterior tail and eye. I got it right away by the way, but the exterior one doesn't work great.
maybe you should rearrange the text and then if you could fix the weight problem in the first one. And also make the faces a bit bigger. Im assuming this would be some kind of app, such small faces would be hard to see in an icon
You could try adding a secondary color into it, and then have both faces on the outside but swirl them around the bubble?
I'm at work so here is a reeeally fast and shitty mockup of what i mean

you have to be pretty stupid to see 'chitchat' and not immediately see those as eyes and a mouth
i like the idea a lot
Hey folks. Working on my first website design, and looking for feedback since I'm still a complete rooky. It's early days as I have a lot more to do and this was just the first session of going at it, but improvements to be made so far before I continue? Cheers.

I'm still new to graphic design, so I need some help. I'm going to be making a logo for a friends italian restaurant. I quickly pieced this together in photoshop to kind of get a general idea across.
They wanted it to be simple and for 'Itatlian Restaurant' to be the main focus.
[t]http://puu.sh/4j1Di.png[/t]
throwing this out there to see if this is a direction I could head in. Or, maybe, if someone has a good idea I could entertain that.
Thanks!
(btw, I should mention that it's to go on the building and each letter is going to be its own piece because of some city ordinance)
the colors are weird, and Im not sure about the fonts either
The actual name of the restaurant (pasta la vista, I assume it is) should have more priority than "italian restaurant" because that's just a generic description of the business. Unless your client wants to have a very generic kind of logo.
I would also play around with more fonts.

love how the numbers extend to symbolize the violence and beauty of anal fisting
I think that I'm going to go against having 'italian restaurant' the biggest, because it really shouldn't be, despite their wishes.
idk, maybe I could do something more like this:

[editline]b[/editline]
or I could go this route

would need to figure out the 'la' part on that one.
That format is nicer. I still find the fonts a bit lacking, have you perhaps heard of a nice typography site like fontsquirrel.com? All the fonts there are free for commercial use and they usually have very nice collections there you can use for small projects like this one.
