the 'napalm' font on the shirt looks really off to me for some reason. that, and the track titles being stretched on the fence. but other than that, great work! love the consistency
Thank you very much!
does anybody know how to, like, make a distorted line path, the actual line path? and not just a distort effect? so that i can combine it with another shape with pathfinder, without the distorted line path reverting back to it's original shape in doing so

no i mean, conform the transformed line path, the thing I did with pucker and bloat, to make it an actual line path. and not an effect

nevermind, found it! it was flatten transparency. that's what i wanted [editline]19th November 2013[/editline] might as well get some cc on this then too! for jar labels, delicious candy is a placeholder for whatever the candy inside will be
nevermind, found it! it was flatten transparency. that's what i wanted
"Expand Appearance" will also do the job, doesn't give you a prompt window with options. Flatten Transparency's options is for effects like drop shadows and such, it basically rasterizes the effects at the quality you choose.

It's a little hard to read. Or maybe my eyesight just sucks.
I'm amateur as fuck so I'm sorry if this is really shitty but I figured I'd consult you guys for advice on this school project [t]http://puu.sh/5nP6u.jpg[/t] (in case you haven't seen the movie the outline is Gerty and the Earth forms his eye)
Honestly I always thought that fan-made posters that reference very specific or important plot twists from a movie kind of miss the point because as an advertisement it should appeal to those who haven't seen the film.
Honestly I always thought that fan-made posters that reference very specific or important plot twists from a movie kind of miss the point because as an advertisement it should appeal to those who haven't seen the film.
I was deliberately trying to avoid that (and avoiding that is indeed part of the assignment). Which part do you think falls under that? I just tried to focus on Gerty because he's a major character while also establishing "there is an astronaut he is on the moon yes" I had to include the three name thing though, I shamelessly took it from the original poster, it's so brilliant and subtle. Unless you mean the fact that it's difficult to tell what it is without having seen the film. In which case yeah that's a hard issue to grapple with... you'll meet Gerty within like the first ten minutes but he has a weird shape so it kinda just looks like random lines without that context. Does removing the Earth thing perhaps make it more clear that "oh that's a robot"?
All I understand from the poster (I haven't seen the movie) is that there is a man on the moon and for some reason there is a smiley in front of him. I don't think 95% of the viewers will understand that it is a robot without having seen the movie because it's just a bunch of faded lines in space. The lines do not form a shape one would assosciate with a robot, and the way the screen is not transparent at all and detailed whilst the lines are only lines does not make it look like they fully belong together. And even when you know it's a robot you are still completely confused about what the poster is trying to tell you. What does the smiley have to do with anything? Why is the name repeated 3 times? Why is the robot looking over him? What kind of a robot is it even? The only thing one can take from it is that the person is probably stranded on the moon and longs back to earth.
hrm... well I guess on the bright side it's more informative than the original poster in that case :v: though not as cool [t]http://media.aintitcool.com/media/legacy/images2009/Big_Moon_revised.jpg[/t] [editline]20th November 2013[/editline]
Why is the name repeated 3 times?
just in case you actually wanna know though [sp]the movie involves him finding clones of himself so he actually plays the same character multiple times, interacting with each other.[/sp] Moon's kind of a marketing nightmare because the whole movie revolves around this but it's still best kept a surprise
logo for a friend, cc???? went from this [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/ccb.jpg[/t] to this [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/ccb2alt.jpg[/t] and thats what i have so far [editline]15th November 2013[/editline] and yes, i do like underline swooshes ok gosh
I think it's odd that the candy texture does not go throughout all of the candy wrapper, why is it circled in? Why is the outline of the head seagreen-grey? It's very unappetizing, not very cute and certainly not a candy-like colour. Why is the name so small? Chloe's Candy could easily have it's size expanded, what about seeing how it looks if the name overlaps the top left corner of the candy and head? I don't think closing it within the borders of a shape (in this case, her hair) is really such a good idea as it really limits the readability and impact of the name. Does the text even need to be imposed onto the illustration? I feel like it's really just butchering it and fighting for attention.
nevermind, found it! it was flatten transparency. that's what i wanted [editline]19th November 2013[/editline] might as well get some cc on this then too! for jar labels, delicious candy is a placeholder for whatever the candy inside will be
I think this looks very bland and copy-cat-ish, like how many times haven't we seen those banners with some script font on them? Why is it so square and straight? You have an extremely organic, loose, round handdrawn font, yet the shape is the exact opposite, rigid, industrial, stiff and straight. The amount of times the shape changes seems also very obnoxious and an attempt to make it look more decorated and natural, despite still keeping it straight making it only jagged and reducing the amount of useable space for the typography and increasing excess space giving more focus to the forms, which again is completely juxtaposed to the typography. "The ~ Chloe's Candy Bullet" seems like it would be completely unreadable at any smaller size than what you've presented here, I think making it a darker colour, or finding a different slightly thicker type would be way better for legibility. I like the blue colour, inner stroke decoration and how "Delicious Candy" looks, but I think everything else should really conform more to the expression of the type used. I think the border of the paper could also need to stand out rather than blend in, making it a dark pale of brown only makes it look less interesting, a gold border maybe?

I've really been wanting to trace photos like I used to do ages ago in Flash. Except I want to learn to do it the right way in Illustrator, but it just doesn't make sense to me. So I started tracing a photo in Flash again. [t]http://i.imgur.com/vFscTBO.png[/t] Edit: [T]http://i.imgur.com/kHTJlAB.png[/T]
Can i get some advice on fonts for this before printing out hundreds of copies?
Im not 100% sure if I am able to ask this (if I am not, I will remove the post) and its probably a bit of a long-shot considering a majority of users here are professional designers, but would anybody be willing to help me with a logo design for a student recycling marketing campaign for my local council as we are in need of a logo and are on little/no budget so I will totally understand if noone is able to help. However, one thing I will stress is that if you are able to help the design would be used throughout my city and uni campus by our marketing campaign throughout May 2014 and would be a good opportunity for a student in a similar position needing experience and an opportunity to have their work published all over my city, campus and online. Thank you all, any help or advice would be much appreciated :)

But from first glance you've got cartoony fonts on the map, plain corporatey ones in the list, and a fancy header so first impression is it's kind of all over the place. edit: I google'd it and it's a "Christmas Bazaar" so that's kind of hard for me to weigh in on since it's a cultural thing I've not been exposed to. But just choose one appropriate theme and make it consistent.

It's kind of a day-long market with events to take part in and cafés and such. Very christmas-themed, yes. I had some funky font last year but i should make it proper by now. Has to be done in 24h.
Gradient Mesh in Illustrator is a godlike tool. You can make things look pretty photo-realistic
Learning to use Illustrator is my top priority. I really, really wanna get started with it, and I've watched endless hours of Youtube tuts, but I can't seem to get the hang of it :C
Gradient Mesh in Illustrator is a godlike tool. You can make things look pretty photo-realistic
Can you explain this to me? I tried tracing a photo of another car, and I accidently made a line that I dont want, and I've been googling and youtubing for 10 minutes now, but I can't figure out what to do. How the flip do I delete it? That's what I like about flash, It's everything in one layer, and you can bend and delete the lines as you please.
i've always preferred the flash ui over illustrator, but cs4 fucked it up real bad so i stopped doing vectors
The same way you remove it in Flash. Either delete the whole line by selecting it with the black or white cursor. If you want to delete the point and keep the rest of the line, select the line with the white cursor and delete it with the vector pen by using the submenu-tool where it has a "-" icon the pen.
since y'all use illustrator, how do you suggest i move forward with this? [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZNeUnQx.png[/t] i was thinking of maybe adding a tree branch or two to help with composition, but i have no idea where. tried adding the moonlight's highlights to totoro, no luck - it looked really bad. (by using the brush -> pathfinder to cut the highlights' shape) any ideas? [editline]27th November 2013[/editline] i really want this to be good, it's very important :(
i'd REALLY suggest trying to play around with the color tbh
WIP. Feedback so far? The purple seekbar and volume slider is based on colors from the album art.
WIP. Feedback so far? The purple seekbar and volume slider is based on colors from the album art.
It feels empty. (Also "view" is spelled wrong at the top there)

If I moved the album art to the right, I would have an ugly 20px window border. That wouldn't be nice at all.
