The difference between yours and Microsoft's borders is that Microsoft's are specific to each tile, they are colour matched to the tile and instead of being a plain line they are a gradient that has been overlaid on the tile. It makes the tile look a lot more dynamic.

I tried to do a semitransparent [I]black[/I] line to create a similar effect. But it's ok, I'll get rid of it altogether seeing it has so much negative feedback.

Now my neck hurts. I'll sue you for damages. In reality, text oriented like that only rarely works with a very clear font. Backgrounds and overall use of color looks really nice. It gives a good sense of depth, and the scanline pattern is effective for a bit more of a retro-feel.

Well it's a flyer so you should probably turn the flyer around instead of your head :v: I should probably do something about the third launch though.. Glad you like the general feel of it!

Either use the Blend tool on two circles and then use Object>Blend>Replace Spline, or draw a couple of circles, create a new brush using them then apply it.

Just recently I created a logo for my university's 57 years and had a big trouble getting a spiky pattern working, had to do it manually in the end. thoughts on this? the big A is (pretty much) in the font her giant rental letters will be in, hence it's.. appropriateness? [img]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/alphabettyA.png[/img] is it convoluted to have the text logo and the first letter again?

The A doesn't really represent or symbolize anything, so it just seems very off. The fact that it is a slab serif, although it makes for a good contrast, collides a lot with the otherwise candy forms of the logo itself. It also really only works in the black version, the white A with drop shadow seems redundant, like, it's almost invisible so you tried to make it visible with shadows which still doesn't solve the problem with the white being too invisible against the pink and you just added another visual distraction to it. The white and the pink just doesn't work together, they are like two different graphics slapped together. It's just an A for the sake of an A, the same way the circle is a circle for the sake of a circle. Aesthetics over everything else, which I don't really approve much of personally. Who is Alphabetty? What do they do? What are their values? Who is their target audience? What kind of industry are they competing with? Etc, etc.

It's not for the sake of it, they will rent out large white light up letters to events, particularly weddings, and that A is in the typeface of the rental letters, as well as symbolizing them.

The A is just an A, to any person looking at it, it is nothing more than an A, even when I know the story behind the reason for the A I can not see the representation of light-up letters in it. Yes, it's part of the typeface they use in their rental letters, but that alone doesn't say anything about them and that doesn't make it have any sense or connection with the pink logo. It doesn't actively communicate anything to the audience that will watch this, it only communicates to you because you know the reasons why it is like it is. Come to think of it, because of the slab serif on the A and the logo mark the black version reminds me of an american football design for a high school team, I could easily see that go on a white shirt in a blue colour with a white stroke around it or something. "The Alphabettys" I just don't think the A communicates anything at all, it's only there for the sake of it. "They have this typeface in their work so I will put it in the logo" that's really the depth of the decision. I really do not have any good ideas for what you could do differently though, I would just brainstorm and map down keywords around lettering and light-up displays and try to find some ideas through that. What can you do to represent the idea of illuminated signs? Otherwise I don't think just having it by itself with a dark grey background was such a bad idea really, the logo itself becomes the lit up part in an otherwise dark area.
