so i've been trying to make a "minimal" logo that represents my name but i'm having trouble thinking of one that's satisfying

the one on the left is the one I just made, and the one on the right is the older one, which i'm also using as my avatar.
which one should I work on more? unless they're both bad and i should think of another idea
ignore the borders i put around them, the typography is all i care about.
oh, also if possible i need help trying to think of a symbolic logo for my name, so far i've come up with nothing so that's why i resorted to using typography. i personally like shapes better than letters.
All I see on the right logo is :P
Vonz, I wouldn't ever tell you not to post those things because that is how I started (tutorials and signatures), but I would really advise not to just dump everything. These threads, in addition to supporting each other, are also about commenting and critiquing in order to HELP people improve in skill and improve their designs. So for your own sake, it is a lot easier to help out when there are 2 or 3 designs to look at and analyze rather than a hundred.
v0nz, man, you gotta stop following tutorials you find online.
I know you're probably like 13, but those are not good. Look for inspiration elsewhere.
Inspiration is no good without knowing how to manifest it. Tutorials are very useful for digital work, they get you comfortable with the programs and the capabilities, and the workflow. I used to do tons of stuff like that, and as long as you are tweaking the tutorials and doing your own version (rather than SIMPLY following the steps exactly) they will help you develop.
I started when I was 12 doing that exact kind of stuff, and yet here I am doing professional graphic design in the summer.
I DO however agree that you should look to real precedent of design. Signatures and avatars and stuff are fine, but they encourage certain habits (not to mention over use of filters) that are not useful in real design projects.
I'm doing my part to aid in the creation of another page.

I support you.
We must be getting close!
How many posts does it usually take to get to the next page?
Good Question.
Maybe around 680? I'd assume it's in tens or twenties.
Post
So close I can almost....nhhhhg

oh you know, in regards to actually doing graphic design, I made a little dingus for a song snippet I made.
How tasteless is this?? Frankly I'm horrible with font choice, simplicity, color palettes, everything. It's only meant to be viewed at about 300px or smaller, but still.

maybe make the "10A" pop out just a little bit more somehow. it really blends in to those light bokeh artifacts.

YES
made some ads for a map in jaykin bacon: episode 3, figure i'd post here too
they will be billboard style ads inside the map
probably won't make sense if you've never seen or played it

well you can't see the 10 against the bokeh, maybe try flipping the background so the dark parts are under the 10?
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
those are great ashman! the only thing i can think of is the bottom one looks a bit empty, maybe try splitting the jaykintown over two lines and bigging up the text side or something? idk

Where did you get the scratch/dust effects that you put on these?
it's a brush pack i've got
i'll try and find what it's called

Aw sweet, I love collecting new brush packs! Thanks for the share :)
No problem :)
ok this might be a really fucking dumb question, but do you have to have good/great drawing skills to get into graphic design?
I don't think so. The most you'd get out of that skill are simple sketches to layout your design.
If anything, drawing would help you be more observant on things which is important in graphic design.
ok this might be a really fucking dumb question, but do you have to have good/great drawing skills to get into graphic design?
You'll be a much better graphic designer if you can draw.
But there is no requirement whatsoever to draw to be able to be a graphic designer.

Nope. But yeah as dgg said it helps

I don't suppose anyone'd be able to tell me what font this is, would they?
ok this might be a really fucking dumb question, but do you have to have good/great drawing skills to get into graphic design?
it depends what you want to do with graphic design. GD is an extreeeemely broad term
true-ish, but you're still going to do better if you have at least moderate drawing skill opposed to none at all.
I made a stenciled Kimmie. Trying to get good at vexel-like stuff.
Can I into graphic design, Facepunch?

Don't use live trace.
Don't use live trace.
But that's the only way to portray Great Leader's full beauty.
Don't use live trace.
[del]what else you think would work better?[/del]
Actually it's photoshop. I used one filter effect that I forgot the name of, and smoothed out the uglier parts with the brush tool.
