I just use direct select tool (A)
and if you select the pen/+/-/shit+c tools after having the direct select tool active, holding Ctrl allows you to use the direct select (it uses the regular select if it was last used of the two).

I don't even remember the actual menu locations for most of my shortcuts
Is it weird I actually find the Photoshop pen tool harder to use than the Illustrator variant.

It's not all that different but I do find Illustrator's easier to use too

I just can't make a good curve when tracing something with it, I don't really understand how that works.
well since photoshop's designed for raster and illustrator is designed for vector it's not really that surprising :v
[editline]29th May 2014[/editline]
i find the photoshop pen tool near unusable, if i need a shape outline over a photo or something i'll generally paste the photo into illustrator and lock the layer, create the shape i need and then paste that back into photoshop, nudging into place if needs be. the photoshop curve tool has it's place for some things but really, just use illustrator for them.
A friend of mine manages to trace almost anything near perfectly to cut stuff out with the curves and whatnot I really don't understand how he has the patience.
You just start, and then at some point (usually sooner than you'd expect) your done. At least thats how it is with me.
Not sure if you guys remember the planet cards I posted 5 or so pages back that are some of my initial steps towards a space-themed card game. Well, the next step is to have ship cards for each race, and I have been thinking how i would go about doing these as I want to stick with a fairly solid and slick graphic style because its what i'm comfortable with due to my branding experience and because I really want to differentiate the 5 races.
I figured I would try my hand at silhouette space ship design as it seemed to fit the style I'm thinking of. In the end I want the ships to all be kind of "logos" on the card rather than kind of a rendered image, but we'll see what happens.
For a first attempt at both space ship design and silhouettes what do you think? Names might be cheesy, not sure if they will have names yet, so I just wrote the first thing I thought of. (Aetara is kind of a Klingon / Spartan race)

(They are at the same scale, so the warhound is a smaller ship, and the flagship is obviously bigger.)
Hey all.
I'm working on a futuristic sci-fi zombie gamemode for Gmod. Gameplay will be similar to Infected wars if any of you guys know that gamemode. basically small squads of humans with crysis suit like abilities will have to take on the infected zombie team. All of which have guns, one of which is going to be 9 foot tall with a minigun :) most rounds humans will have to complete certain randomly picked objectives, including map specific ones. So I'm aiming for really high standards in this gamemode all round.
And I need someone to assist me and my coder with some of the graphic art I require, since both of us are pretty shit when it comes to this type of thing. And yes, I am willing to pay for your services, though doing it free of charge would really help me out.
List of things I need help with:
1. I need someone with a fair of artistic skill to create some really nice HUD vectors and textures. I'm going to need hud based textures for the human and infected teams. But I'm fine with the hud looking exactly the same for each team, but with just a change in colour. E.I the human team HUD being blue, and the infected team HUD being red

This is the type of HUD style I prefer/ am sexually attracted to

here's a fine example of my flawless paint.net talent... Put this here to kinda give you an idea what I want the HUD layout to look like.

2. I'm also going to need about 10 class emblems white in colour. 5 for humans, 5 for the infected. Again with a futuristic look to them.
3. If any of you guys are familiar with grymod, it's basically a really well made crysis suit UI for Garry's mod. I need the materials for the suit selection function on Grymod to be replaced to suit my HUD. So basically a more blue look compared to it's green.
Though the suit power modes is different on this gamemode, so I'm also going to need 4 redesigned emblems. Armor, Speed, Vision and regen.
Think that's all the vectors we're going to need for now. If you are interested doing this as a job, would be great if you could show me a example or two of what work you've done before. Either here or in a PM.
And I'm not going to be paying money upfront, I made that mistake on coderhire. I'll pay when I see the images complete, totally fine with the images being obscured before I pay though.
Anyway, be great if anyone can help me out. Thanks.
Yeah, you're probably going to need to pay someone to get any of that done.
I like the concept but I feel it'd benefit from being more simplistic.

I think the bit where it says "A journey through space and time" on the right would look better if it was not overlapping the picture, so in like column split over two lines or something
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm looking to hire somebody to create a logo for a project I'm working on - PM me if you're interested!
could we get a bit more information, a bit of a brief?
could we get a bit more information, a bit of a brief?
Sure, I can provide a bit more via PM but it's surrounding video and video playback.
can you not post a short description of what the company/whoever the logo is for do, and then what sort of things you had in mind for said logo? you don't have to openly describe your business plan, we just need a little more than "i'd like a logo for a video/video playback _____"

Sorry,
The project is called 60Frames, it's a video playback and livestream service specifically targeted at gaming content. The project name is derived from the idea of 60FPS videos. Not really had any ideas for the logo, unfortunately. I was hoping somebody would be able to come up with something.
got asked to redesign a poster that somebody else did because friend didnt like the vibe and design at all

but it's still really bland. i'm in a bit of a design rut. help me out?
[editline]26th June 2014[/editline]
i think it's going to be printed really massive if that comes into consideration
I feel like it doesn't communicate photography service on the first glance. Might be a cheap example but film strips on the left and right sides of the poster would do the job, but more visual cues about the actual service would help.
Films strip instead of a ribbon. Make the gold text darker, it's really hard to read. Maybe turn the logo into a seal (sticker) or another camera lens...it looks kind of out of place.
they specifically didn't want anything on it. they also had a photobooth at their expo booth, as well as heaps of other booth-related stuff there. I think they didn't want to overdo it on the photo aspect.
either way, they didn't want it.
this was the final one they were very happy with

I had a go at reproducing a poster for an exhibit at school, didn't quite hit it with colors but otherwise it feels cool to have made it haha

I wanted to ask about the weird color banding though. It's like bands of bands. Is that just a fact of life, or is there something I can do about that?
never mind, upon 3200% inspection it appears to be normal banding. still annoying, however.
Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but does someone happen to know what this font it?

The top text I mean.

Trading some services. A friend of mine in Canada needed a logo for his woodworking business.
This is a preliminary mockup.

Needed to be something that was simple, brandable, and easily worked into wood.

I'm pui, so I won't comment much on the logo (other than that it is decent, but i don't quite understand why the 'M' is filled in), but I'd love to see an 'M' with the shadow being the 'W'. I just love double-meaning kind of stuff, but I'd imagine its been done.
