[t]http://i47.tinypic.com/13zbsd1.png[/t] So what's the consensus on using brushes like this?
please don't [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] especially for corporate type logos like that, they should be clean and sophisticated, not messy and random [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] i'm afraid i have absolutely nothing good to say about that logo, at all. back to the drawing board imo
i think it can work sometimes. his isn't too far off working tbh. i dont like the font either tho.
if it was an actual brushstroke with some transparency or softness it could have potential, but as a harsh vector like that i think it looks awful
i think a harsh vector would work better as a logo, but only if it were a little more closely detailed and less huge chunky edges.
Just got called for an internship interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! God, I hope I get to spend my summer in Tampa.
Alright, thanks. Had a feeling it was crap.
[t]http://i47.tinypic.com/13zbsd1.png[/t] So what's the consensus on using brushes like this?
It's too busy, you could probably pull of a ink-brush on this, but you need to choose one that is cleaner, you also need to make the windows in the same style, and the typography needs to synergize with the logo, make them fit together, not be two completely different things (although, with that I'm not telling you to use a grungy or painted font either, but just something that fits more, something rounder maybe?). Right now it has two completely different expressions mixed in together, the clean industrial expression and the playful expression, they give different messages about the company.
Well here's the application to the illustration I posted earlier. Any advice on the side text positioning? I feel like it's close but still needs some adjustments.
the 'featuring special guests' is too far from the text it relates to (unless it's meant to be that old dude??) the goldfish/d'arcy peter/mystery skulls text looks a bit too small too kerning on the BRAHMS at the very top - R touches A, but A doesnt touch H imo they shouldn't touch at all
Goldfish and Mystery Skulls? Please tell me that's just for fun because that's like merging... I can't even imagine it.

I like the second pair. I would have the stem of the word bubble be the same colouring / same object as the rest of the bubble. Also, I'm not too keen on what you are doing with the H, it might just take a bit of tweaking, but I feel like the idea of it kind of sticking through isn't working right and it ends up (especially in the second version) looking like something ON the word bubble, rather than being part of the h. Might need to think of a clever way to inform the eye quickly that the tick is part of the h.
i tried a lot of tweaking with that logo, the way i had the 'h' in that one seemed the best. (though tbh i like the first one i did more) [editline]21st March 2013[/editline] to me it comes off as an 'h' quickly, and is unique enough to stand on it's own. idk. i'll think about alternatives to it a little more. thanks though, you seem to have a much better time articulating your criticisms about a design than i ever could

ah well, they rejected mine without criticism and they liked a bunch of really mediocre-looking logos instead. not really worth trying again. i hate spec work so much
Don't do it, crowd-sourcing design is degrading to the practice. There needs to be a 1 on 1 relation between designer and client.
[t]http://puu.sh/2n0Ng[/t] made this for a thread on /gd/, the goal was to recreate a movie poster, bonus points for subtly giving away key movie points I was too lazy to add the shit at the bottom and I couldn't decide on whether or not to add a car inside the actual triangle, but I think I will tomorrow here's the screenshot I used for the bird, and probably will use for the car
you should use a different background image, the splashes look pixelated/interpolated when blurred
more spec work shit, sadly, even though i hate doing it [sp]supposed to say CE2[/sp] [editline]25th March 2013[/editline] the only thing i feel like i need to do is find a better typeface probably
so stop doing it! i wrote the only piece of written work i have to do this year on why crowdsourcing/spec work is bloody awful. it devalues the work designers do, it devalues yourself and damages the general public's understanding of graphic design. if you don't enjoy doing it then stop wasting your time and resources on it! if you're looking for money you're unlikely to find it, and even if you do it'll be much less than your work is (probably) worth, and if you're just doing it for portfolio then why don't you take some time out and work on design that *you* want to work on, self made projects and the likes. [editline]25th March 2013[/editline] if you were at all interested in my own (and some referenced) thoughts on the matter here's my written piece. [sub][sub]also holy fuck that yellow looks bad on my other monitor. it printed fine and looks great on my mac.. but it's approximately pantone 116[/sub][/sub]
yeah i'll probably stop, i just wanted to say i could've won at least ONE contest on it so it wasn't a complete waste of time. also that's probably an issue with your monitor's gamma settings, i've ran across it before with clients
I have to say, the money I made from half-assed stuff I made on 99designs saved me from having no gas and having to eat ramen every day in school. Of course, as soon as my bank account was padded, I quit ASAP. But I agree that overall, it's a shit way to go about the business. Because I half-assed all my stuff for money, I really didn't even get any good portfolio pieces. Still depending on school projects and an internship for that.

Is it supposed to double as something else? I didn't know it was a 2 until you said, other than that it looks fine.
here's some hand done type i did during my group crit today so i vectorized it i just now noticed the i looks like an L :(
not sure what it says. Good Sibes? Good Libes? Good Lubes? Good Subes? Good Snbes? Good Lnbes?
Good Vibes, just the V isn't too clear at first glance
And maybe flip the 'I' upside down so it doesn't confuse anyone. Not sure if this is really GD's specialty, but I'm making a fictional unit patch. (first time working with pen tool seriously, think it went pretty well) Anyone have any ideas of how to apply the letters 'HP' to it in a nice visible fashion without looking like trash? I'm not even sure of a font. I can provide a PSD if anyone wants to tinker with it.
Good Vibes, just the V isn't too clear at first glance
so whats the reason for the extension of the G? It looks like its just there to confuse [editline]26th March 2013[/editline]
And maybe flip the 'I' upside down so it doesn't confuse anyone.
Well to start with, youre already taking 70% of the space so theres not a lot of space for the letter to make them stand out unless you go over the skull and arrow. Overall its pretty generic too, colors and all that
So I made a vector logo for a friends highschools TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge, basically students building rockets) team. I think it came out pretty decent.
