Do you guys work on PS with additional plugins or addons? i've been working with PS but i haven't downloaded or added any single thing to it. I'll like to know if there's some for digital painting. Thanks. [editline]28th March 2013[/editline] Btw, really nice logo there @KaLam1ty
Most digital painters stick primarily to the default brushes, usually they'll tweak with a brush's settings, and occasionally use one or two custom made effect brushes for things like adding skin pores or clouds. But besides some occasional brush packs there's not much you need to add.
I made this wallpaper of Commander Video from the BIT.TRIP series:
I'm really digging those concrete like textures. The lighting is very smooth too. Video's face does look a little rough though. For plugins, I'm not sure if there are much in terms of plugins for painting, but there are certainly useful utilities for design work though. The ones I use frequently are Cut&Slice for chopping webpages and GuideGuide for easier grid management. [editline]28th March 2013[/editline] Made a few more touchups and changed the sheild in the back. Here are some presentation versions. Much better with the changed shield, also the non skewed one is obviously the best.
Is covering the text really necessary?
-pretty horrible now that I think about it-
background color with that text color sucks, weird AA/border, choice of typeface is bad. also what the hell is 'sothink logo maker?' get illustrator or flash or something, PLEASE
In my opinion, the colors are very muddy and don't go together well. The tree needs more space at the top as well. Otherwise I agree with Aurora. Don't get discouraged though!
i think you also need a bit more direction in what you're actually designing. when you have no brief or any sort of boundaries to work to it's difficult to produce anything that people can give you good feedback on to help you improve. sorry to be so negative but i think you're going to struggle to progress at all if you just keep designing logos for things that a) don't exist b) have no meaning whatsoever.
I think you'd be better off with either Illustrator or Inkscape instead of this "Logo Maker". From the looks of it, it's just a watered down version of those programs with less features and more templates.

please try Illustrator... please. [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] or even Flash
Alright, downloading Illustrator at the moment.
Yeah, I only recommended Inkscape because it's the best free option. If that's not a factor, then Illustrator is definitely tops.
Is Illustrator easy to learn after using photoshop for years?
Is Illustrator easy to learn after using photoshop for years?
If you're good with Photoshop's pen tool, then it'll make things a lot easier than for most people starting with it. However, the two are still for completely different functions so you won't be able to just jump right in.
Is Illustrator easy to learn after using photoshop for years?
Yes and no. They are two very different programs with many overlapping or similar tools. You will find things in Illustrator that make your work just that much easier. You will also find things in Illustrator that you can't do or have to do the worst motherfucking ass-backward retarded workaround thing to achieve the same thing you would in a second with Photoshop. Illustrator only works in vectors whereas Photoshop mainly works in raster(pixels) but also supports vectors. (you can import raster images and apply some raster effects in Illustrator, but that's about it) But to go back to your question, yeah, it's easy enough, you'll recognize most of it. I do recommend you to look up some tutorials about the basics of Illustrator, because you just might miss out on some incredibly handy tools or work techniques you most likely wouldn't stumble upon yourself.
man fuck my life. I spend 3 hours downloading adobe illustrator, it finally finished downloading, error installing, have to restart the computer. Restart pc, come back, it didnt save ANYTHING, have to download the entire program over again.
you can try flash if illustrator doesn't work on your computer (for whatever reason that might be) personally i'm a flash guy, which, yes, is somewhat unorthodox in the design industry, especially since it wasn't necessarily designed as a program for design, but it's a perfectly legitimate program to use. it has a few drawbacks to it, e.g. somewhat declining first-party support, unreliable vector rendering, shit vector export options (you'd have to get an intermediary program to export common SVG files, for example) but i always found it has a simpler, more straightforward means of drawing than illustrator. you're probably going to learn better practices if you use illustrator though
First experience with vector graphics (using Inkscape); I needed to print some custom playing cards for a game I made up called DeQueue. Here's the back I came up with: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/eN7NhL6h.png[/thumb] Everything came out of the printer a bit lighter, so the deep blue is more washed out, but all in all I think it came out alright. In the event that I print more cards, do you have any suggestions for improvement?
Personally I think it's good the blue washed out in print because right now it's like a fucking laser death beam emitting radiation from my second monitor.

I've always just googled a color palette but someone has to be making them. Do you just mess around with a color picker until it looks alright? [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] Needless to say I tried the latter in this case and this is the result :v:

I couldn't find the scans, but this is 3 of the colour picking phases condensed into one image. Basically, find yourself the colours you want to use in your project, then make a shitton of variations of it just changing simple things like the tint, amount of cyan, magenta, yellow (cmyk) red, green, blue (rgb), hue and such. Print that shit out and pick the ones that look best. Set those variations up against eachother, maybe use them in a design or mock-up that fits your project and pick out the winners again. Rinse and repeat until you've found the perfect colour.

I can print from my family's printer, but both the ink, paper and process would probably be different enough to leave it as a bit of a guessing game. If I had any artistic inclination I'm sure I would have a better eye for this, but honestly I can't tell the difference between the majority of these samples :( [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] I'm just glad there are graphic artists like yourselves to make the world look nice; if I were in charge things would be a lot more haphazard :pwn:
i doubt this is quite what you're looking for, but it's a useful colour palette tool regardless - great for when you need some colour inspiration https://kuler.adobe.com/
part of a project that i've recently completed [editline]4th April 2013[/editline]
you are good at using ornate things
Started to hate the logo from a week back - so here's a better one. It's much simpler and looks much better than the previous when downsized in games. [t]http://i.imgur.com/uhW9YH3.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/sS2H2bv.png[/t]
i prefer the old one, it was a lot more consistent - whereas now you've got blue in the background, random wings and a tail that don't fit sticking out and the dragon's just lost a lot of it's oomph when it was very impressive before
I'd remove the wings and tail.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/uhW9YH3.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/sS2H2bv.png[/t]
Oh, wow, I personally don't like those changes at all. Bring back the red background, that blue water has no place in that logo. You do not need contrast on that background to make the dragon pop, it's highlights colours and white eyes and teeth does that job well enough on their own. You turned it into something very amaeturish, remniscient of a persons first Photoshop work because you suddenly slapped things on it. Remove the drop shadow, don't even think about having that carbon fiber background, I do suggest you bring back the sword as that balances out the composition much better as the left side is very empty, put the "esports" in either the same white as the text or at least the same red as the dragon. The less colours you are able to remove without ruining form and legibility, the better it will look 95% of the time. Re-work the wings and tail to synergize with the forms of the dragon, which are much sharper and "swooshy". Or drop them altogether, right now they remind me of a slapped on brush. They might need shading in the same style as the dragon as well to really work, because they are so different from the illustration of the dragon that they just don't work well together.
