i thought Id post this for inspiration for your yearbook, Alcapwne. This is the yearbook for the Architecture Faculty, where I am. Its pretty simple really, but I think it works pretty well. Then again, these architects doing architecture always keep things minimalistic
Did you add those lines manually or use some kind of script/filter/whatever? Not to judge or anything, just curious
i had a few 3d models which i used pro-optimize on in 3ds max and then i traced over the wireframe in flash

I'd make the background less blurry.
Uni project. Designing a logo for a new furniture and design store called 'Shelter and Bronze'. Doing a bunch of trials and experiments. This is the graphic, gonna make a type logo later based around this. What do you think? Favourites? Changes? i'm not sure about the b, the way the overlap happens looks a bit weird but maybe that's just me
yeah i could have the lines cut off at the join so they connect i'll try it when i get the chance tomorrow
why did you choose geometric?
why did you choose geometric?
They described themselves as "contemporary and unique". When I think furniture and room design (especially modern) I always thinks geometric shapes and lines. A lot of it was just from sketching ideas.
hey guys! just some portfolio stuff im sharing. just graduated high school last March and I had to compile a portfolio for college. just a sample of some works i have a 'talent test' this saturday for college , so im really hoping i pass so i can continue exploring the wild wild world of art !
Like the post I made a bit ago, I've started looking at tuts and messing around in Illustrator, so I'm interested in where you guys get ideas for what you make?

we had to make an infographic for my class and the topic I got was the civil war [t]http://puu.sh/2CGy8.png[/t] that's what I came up with, any advice?

[editline]19th April 2013[/editline]
we had to make an infographic for my class and the topic I got was the civil war [t]http://puu.sh/2CGy8.png[/t] that's what I came up with, any advice?
i really like the colors here, but i think you could push the blues a bit farther so it's easier to read. infographics have to be cohesive for the most part (there's a reason why its info before graphics!) so at any given chance strive for readability. some spacing issues that make it a bit harder to read too. when big fonts like that are placed near each other its kinda hard to read so maybe change the fonts for some. maybe use the font of the dates? also the 'Civil War' font seems really out of place and honestly looks amateur-ish, should change it to something else. and finally some minor issues: some of the text inside the states dont fit, and i think the bar graph could be fixed a bit too, to emphasize the 248 (since right now the us-spain and gulf war look identical) but nice work overall!

Most of the stuff posted here so far are really really great! I wish I could do stuff like that. Sometimes I feel my designs are overly-functional. I tend to focus too much on the practical aspects of an ad piece or a logo and sometimes they end up looking 'lifeless'. Here's some of my latest work with FSU: An ad campaign for brand positioning: I tried to make the image the focus of the ad, and had a hard time convincing my boss otherwise. In my experience so far, I've found that ads with little text are far more compelling and attractive. I took different groups of students and had them pose on different areas of the university These are my initial trials: [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/PGk6.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/Z9mn.png[/thumb] The one with the guys with the boat has some heavy photoshopping to it, but I'm not that skilled at Photoshop. See if you can spot the manipulations. This is one is the only one so far published, and I'm not really happy with it. The photo is not the best, it is blurry and that ceiling there looks awful (yeah, my fault, I took the photos and didn't take that in account. yet it was the one my boss chose, so yeah..) [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/Cxbo.png[/thumb] it feels crammed, and I don't know what the fuck was I thinking when I did this: Some other stuff I've done with FSU so far (not sure if I've already posted this): A mascot/logo for an event that took place earlier this year. I call him froggie the froggienole (the stripes on him were a request of the university, they look stupid imo) [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/YJ5u.png[/thumb] A poster for a cookout last year: [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/76CW.png[/thumb] some poster I did in 10 minutes for a series of workshops this semester: [thumb]http://andrescanelones.me/imageuploads/sLHG.png[/thumb] Now that Autumn banned herself what are we gonna do??!!
Not sure if this is the best place, but, if I start using a certain font in Photoshop and then save the file as a PSD and open it up again in another location that doesn't have the font installed will I be able to continue using that font? Trying to continue some work at College tomorrow and the font I need isn't installed on their computers.
the font will still show up, but as soon as you edit it it'll find a replacement so if you can't get the font on there, make sure you finalize your text while you can
Or if you have Indesign, you can "package" the file so it includes all your assets such as the fonts you used
Also, here's a WIP book cover. I wanted to try something different so it's not one of my go-to "styles". Critique would be appreciated.
I can't put my finger on it, but the type element really doesn't have any OOmpff to it if you get my drift. The graphic in the back is ok, and then the type makes the whole thing seem fairly amateur. If I think of why I'll be more constructive, but its just a gut reaction atm. Other things: The square behind the text is unnecessary, and the background graphic would probably be nicer if the colours weren't as saturated (they should be brighter - can't tell if im using the word saturated correctly).

Cyan is very saturated pure colour, grey is completely desaturated with no colour. The colours for the books cover seem too calm to me, it doesnt indicate stress, and with so few figures it seems very calm and serene really.
Yeah the type is what's giving me a headache at the moment, so I'm definitely open to suggestions there. As for the graphic's colors, the monitor I'm working with shows how it will look for print and probably looks much different on your monitors. I'll try to make an adjusted version so you can see what the colors actually look like. They should be more vivid and have a bit more green than what you're seeing.
maybe its the font or I think its the "Urban Stress" that kills the composition a bit because its so rectangular [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] after not trying any design stuff for quite a while, Im back trying to make a menu for my bar Theres quite the story behind the names besides the cocktail drinks on the right. But basically the names on the left should stand out. What I dont like is how I have the prices over the ingredients sometimes, but i dont want to take too much space either since I still have a lot of cocktails to put in
Doesn't matter now anyways because Illustrator is being an asshole, giving me an unknown error whenever I try to open the file. Also sucks because I think I found the right typeface for this.

I think the gradient is weak though

I believe a menu (and for that matter, all graphical material) should be understandable at a glance, otherwise it defeats one of the biggest points about Graphic Design.

i really dont like how the words break it makes my mind slam on the brakes and actually try to read it instead of just flowing over it [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] ur too far out of the box
I somehow got this thin stroke around my textbox that I can not remove for the life of me
