This killed me. I didn't see it coming not one bit.
Wonder if this means anything though. Crash is Activision property now. And the last I heard of it was that they didn't want to use it not one bit, even not permitting Sony to use him in All-Stars.
They're probably trying to find a way to make a Skylanders type game using the franchise.
Anywhere else to find the video? It's down right now.
Well that makes up for the Lack of any Crash Bandicoot boardgame at the toy store in The Last of Us.

I did a little bit of digging in the mean time from my post, and it turns out that it's very likely that Sony purchased the franchise around the start of 2016, followed by a few subtle hints which happened in separate events.
The fact that they actually play the damn game full front and center, all contents and likelihood unaltered is arguably the most solid revelation of them all, though. I wouldn't be surprised if ND or someone else has a thing cooking for E3. Could be an attempt at reviving the franchise through a remaster/reboot or a sequel after the positive public reaction around Yooka-Laylee's reveal.

As previous posts said, it's not wholly unaltered. It's more like a clone that does use the original assets, but not the original code or animations.

Using the original wouldn't be optimal regardless; They'd effectively have to code an emulator and alter the original to work into its current form.
Still, though, doing that without having the legal rights to use it would be the biggest fucking copyright violation ever. There is at least a collaboration between Activision and Sony for this to happen.
According to some sources i read, Activision isn't credited at all? We can't confirm this now atm obviously but if true, then what would that mean?
Nevermind
Well, they never say the name "Crash Bandicoot" and the assets are from a game that was before Activision bought it so I guess they don't need to?
It literally shows the title screen, Nate himself questions the name and keeps mistaking Crash for a fox while being corrected about him being a Bandicoot.
It's a full blown reference and if Activision isn't credited, then Sony probably acquired the rights back at long last.

Oh yeah shit it totally does show the name, I just had a brain fart there. But maybe the fact that it's a game from before they had the franchise and it's just an easter egg in an unrelated game makes it okay somehow?
There's even a screenshot somewhere of him holding the literal jewel case with the art and everything
woops wrong thread :)

I'm pretty sure that the original games fall under the same IP. That's why Bungie would never be able to do something like this with, say, Halo 1.
Man, fucking Nate.
"Spin att-aaaaay-ck!"
Isn't there an Uncharted general thread? I kinda need to let people know how much I love the series.
If this really means Sony has the rights back, I'm going to be so happy.
Crash was my first and most favorite game as a kid and is still my #1 game to this day.
My childhood was so kept up to date with this game. I would mow lawns to buy each new game that came out.
However I was upset when I heard the news with mind over mutant.
After that game Activision bought the rights and shut down the Crash team.
Since I was 13 or so I have been waiting for a new crash game. Crash may not mean much to some of you but it does a lot to me.
Now to hope the rights are in the good hands of Sony.
If this is true then don't let me down, Sony.

"the literal jewel case"
Maybe they paid Activation lots of money to allow them to do it.
Damn I still haven't finished Uncharted 1
