I now want to read most of these; specifically House of Leaves
Looks like I've found some great summer reading here.
Think this one belongs here.
When I read this in middle school my teacher gave me a dirty look and told me to put it away :/
When I read this in middle school my teacher gave me a dirty look and told me to put it away :/
Your teacher probably saw the movie and decided it was a "no-no" book. I have a habit of bringing in really controversial reading material, or just mature works that no one else in my school would really understand, and seeing which teachers will tell me that they're proud of me and which ones will send me to the office.

[editline]3rd July 2011[/editline] strange, but a great read
Level 26: Dark Origins. It was written by the guy who created CSI. It's interesting in the fact that there are web-isodes tied to the book, starring such folks as Michael Ironside, but it's antagonist Squeegle is one fucked up guy.
Mein Kampf. I wanted to get into the man's head and understand how he thought. Almost got sent home, becuase one of the Jewish kids was "offended". Bitch, don't make me break out my Space Nazi costume I had from last Halloween.

But yeah it's excellent.
By far my favorite book. All gay romance aside, it's excellently written.
it's excellently written.
i'd imagine so.
Everyone hates furries
If you think that, might I bring your attention to this thread that argues differently?
By far my favorite book. All gay romance aside, it's excellently written.
I'm pretty sure all there is in that book is gay romance.
The Wasp Factory is an interesting one. It's about a pubescent sociopath and the story of those he's killed, and it details his elaborate self-invented rituals and weapons he uses to "control" the island he lives on with his father. There's other goodies in it too, but the selling point is that it's written from within the mind of a deranged, socially isolated 16-year-old, and it's very macabre to boot.
Have read it, original German version, very strange and interesting read. It does not feel like it was written by a insane genocidal madman at all... Brilliant war tactician though.
The Wasp Factory.
Ugh, Iain Banks
I now want to read most of these; specifically House of Leaves
Did my blog post sell it to you? I'd be delighted if that was the case

[sp]I really didn't like the ending very much.[/sp]
I wouldn't call invading Russia ''brilliant''.
Agreed. I think at that point Hitler just lost his mind and thought "I'm so amazing that I will break a treaty and invade a country nobody has ever been able to defeat since it was first formed." But before that... He got pretty damn far.
I wouldn't call invading Russia ''brilliant''.
He was desperate and I heard the syphilis was fucking up his cognitive abilities. Also, Mein Kampf is a terribly dull read. And it wasn't worth cajoling the librarian into letting me check the goddamn thing out. Bitch, ich bin keine Nazi. I applaud anyone who finished Mein Kampf. I love to read, and I have a lot of patience, but oh my god, it was like reading the U.S. Census Bureau's Embargoed Releases of 1997. I'm sorry, but it's dull as hell.

My secret life, written by anonymous. It's a Victorian London erotic diary about a man named Walter. He's one fucked up person
Brilliant war tactician though.
he used a war tactic that failed in the first world war (blizkrieg), when it did work this time however, the idiot decided to fight a two front war. he's barely a good war tactician, his strong point was getting people behind him, which is what got him far.
Weirdest thing I ever read was probably this The Satanic Bible
best thing about the satanic bible is that it's three words away from being Atlas Shrugged true story

This might just be one of the worst books I've read. [editline]4th July 2011[/editline] Mainly because of how Ayn Rand's messed up views. Does she really think something like that could happen? [editline]4th July 2011[/editline]
best thing about the satanic bible is that it's three words away from being Atlas Shrugged true story
I rest my case :v:
