Considering they are free-range, they are likely fed off better food sources that can knock down the acid levels, I know the few my aunt raises don't kill off grass as bad as the bunch at the farm down from her and they are raising only about 5~8, same as her.
Difference is theirs are caged and force-fed while she free ranges hers.
Not to sound morbid, but I wonder how many are picked off by hawks or other raptors

Can't saying about hawks or raptors but foxes, I can say they'll likely be losing 3~8 every few months.
