so what you're saying is
A) fuck their right to protest barbaric conditions
B) since Ramadan is coming up, fuck their religious beliefs
Educate yourself on the need for hunger strikes:

EDIT: that Wiki article actually has a heavy British bias, read something like this

"What are hunger strikes??"
absolutely gut wrenching.
What is their reasoning behind not sedating them?
Because when done in a hospital they coat it in a gel that both lubricates the tube and numbs everything it touches
It technically shouldn't be as bad as in the video, I've known people who had it done and none would describe it as anything more than a slightly painful but highly uncomfortable inconvenience.
jesus christ. you can see the fear in his eyes before it happens. that was terrifying.

It's almost as if the soldiers/officers/whatever at Guantanamo Bay don't care about the well being and health of their prisoners!
lol wot this is such an overdramatized bullshit video
this isn't something they do to torture individuals as mos def makes it seem like it's the worst thing he's ever experienced, and is done in hospitals often. It was lubricated in the video with mos def just as it is when performed in hospitals and such.
For example here's 2 other people getting it, a woman and a little girl who aren't even a tenth as distraught as mos def is.

If I recall correctly they don't lubricate it in prisons. I'd imagine it'd be pretty painful.
This problem has existed for months and has been explained in every single subforum, I find it hard to believe you haven't seen it happen before.
I didn't think it was a big enough deal to get rude about it. It took me a while to catch on to it, too.
Oh god. That's fucking terrifying.

Oh i don't doubt that they wouldn't lubricate it in prisons, i'm saying specifically in the video with mos def it is lubricated. hell, they use the exact same lubricant that the little girl uses from the little bag. my point is that he's over exaggerating and making it seem far worse than it actually is, it's not as bad as people in this thread think it is

No, I definitely understand the protest, they're completely in their right to do it. But the medical staff at Gitmo (no matter how terrible it may or may not be there, I don't really have an opinion on the matter) cannot allow them to kill themselves, so they have to make sure they get fed. If that means force feeding them to do it, so be it.
I understand the sympathy for their cause, what I don't understand is how you all think it's such a terrible thing for a medical staff to prevent suicide. The protesters could just eat at any time, but they wont, so unless someone intervenes, they'll die. It's as simple as that. Terrible that it's come to this, yes, but still understandable and not the holocaust that you're all making it out to be.

apparently media tags don't work anymore?
I don't think the procedure is carried out in a meticulous way as they do in hospitals. Prisoners have to endure this twice a day and also against their will.

It's eat or get force fed. I understand the need for change in Gitmo, I really do, but you're all exaggerating and making it seem like the inmates forcing the medical staffs hand by starving themselves is all the staffs fault and their trying to keep the inmates alive is a crime against humanity. This is not the way to bring about change. Yes, hunger strikes have worked in the past, but this is not the place for it. Bring light to the actual problems in Gitmo, this shit is just the staff doing their job.

if the prison didn't exist then the staff wouldn't have to do their job
Oh i don't doubt that they wouldn't lubricate it in prisons, i'm saying specifically in the video with mos def it is lubricated. hell, they use the exact same lubricant that the little girl uses from the little bag. my point is that he's over exaggerating and making it seem far worse than it actually is, it's not as bad as people in this thread think it is
How do you know it is the same lubricant? You can get lube for your dick in a little sachet but it doesn't mean it is the same shit.
lubricant, sedative or not getting a tube manually shoved right down your nose canal to your stomach is going to be a painful experience
the problem isn't the pain though, the real problem is the fact that it's force feeding

you have to remove the "s" from the http

wowowow this little girl is calm as balls. Although she is using water to glide the thing down gently.
I feel like Mos had a bit of a placebo going on, thinking that it would be fucking crazy and brutal and therefore it ended up going down that way. So the article I posted earlier, (A Dep. of Defense article from 2005 where the staff promote the use of the feeding tube. "For the most part, the feedings are not involuntary. Both men said the vast majority of detainees voluntarily participate in the feedings. In fact, Edmonson noted, some even insert their own feeding tubes. "They are generally cooperative with the medical staff in that effort..." (Edmonson)) for the most part, actually is most likely very true, and not apologist at all. I retract my previous statement. Both my parents are ICU-experienced nurses so I should have asked them :v:
Can i just ask.. Aren't the people at that prison like the lowest of the low of scumbag prisoners like the really terrible people? Why are we giving a fuck that someone is feeding them?
Can i just ask.. Aren't the people at that prison like the lowest of the low of scumbag prisoners like the really terrible people? Why are we giving a fuck that someone is feeding them?
prisoners still have human rights regardless of what they did

1. Most prisoners are held without trial, and are often at best just suspects.
2. Innocent students have been arrested and tortured at this facillity in the past.
3. It's not a super-max serial killer detainment facillity, it's not holding dangerous scumbags who are a threat to the people around them.
