Oh my god stop being so butthurt. Give Yahtzee enough time and he is going to shit on a game you like. You don't need to go on a fuckin crusade, hes meant to be funny. So what if he has fanboys that take his word for it, why do you really care?? Yes, he doesn't like jrpgs, get used to it.
But it's not a JRPG. At all.
Usually I enjoy Yahtzee even when he bashes a game that I really enjoyed because the points he makes actually make sense even if they are exegerated, this review was just plain bad, I expect him to play more than the first couple of hours, the jokes aren't funny if they don't make any sense.
It seems to me that Yahtzee no longer has the time to sit down and play a game for Zero Punctuation, so he should probably stop doing them.
As much as I love his "reviews", mistakes like this one are just embarrassing.

yes, it embarrasses him in the eyes of the four people that give two shits about Monster Hunter Tri and what Yahtzee thinks about it.
oh the humanity.
also, blind assumptions about how long he plays games for ahoy.

That's a shit assumption to make. If I had a Wii I'd care, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP is great.

No I just like the way everyone in here makes it sound like Yahtzee's credibility is on the line due to this, when it really isn't.

When did we all say his credibility is on the line?

He shits on a game you like and you denounce all his reviews as shit? He's shat on plenty of games that I thought were pretty damn good (That's his fucking job) but I couldn't give less of a shit as long as it's funny. I could actually run through this thread pointing out every person who is a huge fucking fanboy of this game without even thinking. And yes, they're 'reviews'. They're 'reviews' because they're not fucking meant to be proper reviews, they're meant just to be fucking funny. Which they succeed at doing most of the time. The sheer amount of whiners spewing butthurt all over the place in this thread is astounding. Someone call the fucking waambulance.

I liked this post though:
I have decided on an easy way to explain to people who don't know Monster Hunter just how atrocious this "review" is. I'm going to explain other popular games in the same manner.
Halo is a game which takes place entirely within the confines of a small laboratory. You are immobile inside a measuring device and a scientist tells you to look in different directions. I am told there are lots of guns and aliens to fight but clearly that was just bad advertising.
Psychonauts is a game about a boy who was part of a circus and then went to summer camp. There were no interesting levels and I never got to use any sort of psychic powers. There were only three or four characters and none of them were interesting.
The only enemy creature in World of Warcraft is wolves. You do nothing but grind wolves until you get so fed up with it that you stop playing. There is only one faction, the horde is not playable.

I know that that guy was trying (Read: Trying, not succeeding) to be funny but he was pretty much spot on with regards to WoW.
I don't own, nor have played any Monster Hunter game, so don't assume shit.
This is the second time he's not managed to play much of a game and his "review" has suffered for it, it is becoming more and more obvious that the man is too busy with his bar and other things in his life for Zero Punctuation.
No his credibility isn't "sunk", you overreacting idiots. I just feel if he doesn't have time anymore he should just call it a day and concentrate on what he does devote time to.
I do use "review" in acknowledgement that they're for comedy, not serious. That was intended to be obvious.
I enjoy him ripping on games, especially ones I like, but only when the points made are valid. This is becoming less and less true as he cannot spare the time.
Zero Punctuation made his name, and he should be proud of it - now he has his foot in the door, it seems time to move on.
Your post in fact only reflects badly on you - you didn't make a single valid point and you just came across to this whole thread as precisely one of those blind fanboys that swarm the ZP comments that Zachary pointed out. Stop sucking the guy's dick and form a real opinion.
You guys expect Yahtzee to go through and actually grind through the entire game?
I love Monster Hunter Tri, but I would have been left feeling the same way if I had bought the game and hadn't had much time to play it.
Use Zero Punctuation/Yahtzee as a reference to how the first hour or so of the game is going to go. Don't kid yourselves, the first couple of Village Quests were boring and simplistic, tutorial or not. Yes, the game gets better and I fully know that (and am loving it).
It's not like he hasn't done this to games before, though. :v:
Oh lord a guy who's job is to hate on things loses credibility for hating something.
He's supposed to hate on games stop taking his opinion as something he does it for comedy not actually give proper opinions

Did you even fucking listen to what people said? They weren't pissed because he was ripping on the game (Because everyone knows he does that to EVERYTHING), but are pissed because he didn't even get past the tutorial shit, and passed judgment on that.
I usually enjoy Yahtzee's reviews, and he actually makes valid points most of the time, even toward games I really enjoy (Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, etc). This time he didn't even fucking TRY to play the game. THAT is what the shit storm is about. Its not fans whining about their favorite game being shat on, he just didn't even give Tri a fucking chance.
I tried Monster Hunter on the PSP once.
It was the worst thing I've ever played.
[editline]02:48PM[/editline]
Wait, you guys are mad that he says the game sucks, but only because he only played the tutorial...
You guys aren't very bright.
I played Monster Hunter and this is how I felt 80% of the time.
because it was "too hard", but he hardly even got past the tutorial stage in that game as well..
What? Is the tutorial the hardest part of the game and then it gets easier?
Also I watched some of the game-play for Monster Hunter Tri and he was pretty damn spot on.
It's 99% gathering crap.
Wait, you guys are mad that he says the game sucks, but only because he only played the tutorial...

Because his opinion of the game may have changed if he actually put some fucking effort into playing it?
Not to mention, other reviews of the game are extremely positive. Its just Yahtzee half assed his review. Not that hard to understand.
Because his opinion of the game may have changed if he actually put some fucking effort into playing it?
Because he totally would have recommended the game for GOTY status if he played more of the game :downs:

Exactly. It's funny when it's actually true. Yahtzee is essentially making shit up just to be funny.

Hey,
you're wrong.
Because he totally would have recommended the game for GOTY status if he played more of the game :downs:
You're exaggerating, but really, would you enjoy Halo 3 if all you did was stare at lights to test the controls? No.
As people said, he only played the tutorial quests, not any actual hunts. So yes, his opinion could change if he actually had a fucking normal attention span.
I've said it before and I'll say it again now:
Yahtzee isn't a reviewer, he's a comedian. Stop having expectations.
Yeah, but come on. He obviously went in to this one with a bias against JRPGs, even though the game isn't really a JRPG. He didn't even finish the tutorial missions, which can barely be considered a part of the actual game. He didn't even talk about the actual gameplay, he just commented on the gathering and the name of the game.
This is just silly. Even for Yahtzee. He has basically reviewed a game without actually playing it.

It's 95% hunting gigantic Wyverns, actually. Gathering is pretty insignificant.

Yeah, I've spent most of my time on the game battling boss monsters.
Don't take Yahtzee seriously, just take it like a joke. I thought it was funny.
I can't wait for him to totally destroy RDR, just so I can read the bitching and moaning on here.
(ps I love RDR)
Yathzee is biased
He said Fallout 3 is immersive, while oblivion is unimmersive
he got it backwards.

Same, it was great fun when he reviewed BC2.

Oblivion was the same forest landscape copy-pasted a thousand times over. Fallout 3 was at least varied, if not desolate and empty.
I wish I could roll back the clock and make him review Morrowind for the first time, and if he could magically get past the horrible combat system.
Don't take Yahtzee seriously, just take it like a joke. I thought it was funny.
True. He's 'critiscised' some of the games I love but I understand that it's all a joke.
