Yeah, but your first assignment you did in 20 minutes? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/expect Woah, I think you guys think I'm in college. I'm in high school, beginners animation.
My first assignment was to practice ease in and ease out with squash and stretch, by animating a ball bouncing across the screen, one with perspective and one going flat across the page. Took me 3 or 4 hours to get both done. And well I didn't know high schools teach animation, mine surely didn't, it was more aimed towards business and economics.

My school has a shitload of electives.
We took a week on that.
What was that, four frames? How can that possibly take a week to do? It'd take an hour at most, and that's if you're really, really slow. I don't want to be a dick about it though. At least it was clear and the shapes stayed the same when they moved.
What was that, four frames?
It's 1,3,5,7,9. 5 frames. Ah, the ignorance of Facepunch.
Well who cares if that's nine frames, or 4 frames, it's still nothing close to a week's worth.
Well who cares if that's nine frames, or 4 frames, it's still nothing close to a week's worth.
So, how fast is a complete beginner supposed to finish this?
So, how fast is a complete beginner supposed to finish this?
Maximum 3 hours.
Maximum 3 hours.
First animation assignment ever?
Well for your animation yes.. For my first one, probably 5-6 hours..
Video has 666 views.
Video has 666 views.
Hear that? That's the sound of "FUCKING OVERUSED JOKE".
Hear that? That's the sound of "FUCKING OVERUSED JOKE".
It's not a joke. The video really has 666 views.
And nobody cares about that.
It's not a joke. The video really has 666 views.
Why did you post that it has 666 views? Was it because you thought it would be funny because 666 is relevant to the devil, and it was a coincidence your video happened to have 666 views?
So, how fast is a complete beginner supposed to finish this?
My first animation ever took me around 5 minutes and it had 10 frames. How did it take you a week?
If it took you a week to draw 5 pictures, each one a little different from the last and then string them all together, how long does it take you to cook a can of beans? A month?

my first "animation" was for a 7th grade study skills class. it was a flash animation or a powerpoint. everyone but me did a powerpoint. i would post it here, but its not on this computer, and to be honest, its pretty bad anyway. just some motion tweens.
Wow, I did better stuff when I was 8.
I was doing flip book shit better than this when I was like 10

The constructive criticism they give me is very helpful. No, but really, why are all of you guys rating my OP boxes? Is the animation really that good?
Is the animation really that good?
Lets self bump a shitty thread. You have close to zero natural talent error.
My first animation was in Flash when I was in 7th grade. I don't have the original but this just has a bit of stuff like color touched up. The project was to make an ad for something using a song from an assigned decade. Mine was the 80s.
Animation is a set of moving pictures put together to create the illusion of movement. This can't be qualified as an animation mainly because you can tell that it's not moving and is just a few frames repeating.

It's going at a fast enough framerate to give that illusion. For more info, I suggest you read about the Phi Phenomenon, as well as Persistance of Vision. A frame remains will persist on a human's retina for 1/25th of a second, and anything 12 frames per second and over gives the illusion of movement easily. It's not as smooth as movies and stuff, but it still technically counts as an animation, regardless of the amount of frames.
Holy s*** man! A WEEK! I AM 9 YEARS OLD AND I CAN DO BETTER IN ONE HOUR!
My first real assignment in my animation class. Took three hours. Had to do the inbetweening for a few frames my professor had drawn. He's an ex-Disney animator. Hand drawn too.

But I'm sure your teacher being an ex-Disney animator he probably already told you that. Nice arch with the hands, should have more frames as well.
