notice how the thread is labeled rap/hip-hop and not shitty 'crunkcore'
but since i'm just a good guy, i'll give you some criticism.
the beat was awful, your lyrics are basic as shit and make me want to hurt myself and the screaming is lovecraftian
F-
No need to be an ass about it, your early beats weren't works of brilliance either.
Okay here we go for some crits:
I agree with Rediscover about your lyrics and delivery being bad. You have no real flow, you just talk the words and even if you did have flow the rhymes and words themselves are really really bad. Your verses make no sense, just random (weak) braggadocio. Bragging about how you will take down all other rappers is incredibly clichéd and old and if you are gonna do it at least try to not take yourself too seriously. Also the screaming part was atrociously bad. I'm not into crunkcore but goddamn it was plain bad. Also "imma do the beat, do the beat with ya" is the worst hook of the century.
The beat is also pretty damn mediocre. Sounds like something you put together with a bunch of cheap samplepacks in about 5 minutes. That damn lead sound that loops through most of the song gets so grating that I got a huge headache from listening to the song like twice, and the chord synth is also just churning meaninglessly in the background for reasons unknown. You really need to try to program some more interesting synths and drum parts, having a bad one bar loop and subtracting and adding elements ocassionally isn't exactly good songwriting. Also please learn music theory please please please. If you take yourself seriously as a musician you need to learn that shit.
Oh and concerning that thing where you said "may not be the best genre of music but the scene has been nice to" you really definitely shouldn't make music in a genre you don't like because your friends like it. That's like selling out before you're even popular.
I just realised I pretty much typed a longer version of Rediscovers post but hey whatever he isn't exactly wrong

You didn't just type a longer version of his, if you did, it'd be full of him just talking shit to me lol, but I'mma respond to everything in no particular order.
I like CrunkCore, I was just saying that because, well, obviously it's not that popular lol.
I use Nexus for synths and stuff, not exactly cheap. :O
I've also taken music theory in school, but honestly it doesn't help THAT much. It's still all about experimenting.
Maybe it's just that beat though. Try this one?

It's an unfinished song, but whatevs.

download the trapaholic sample pack, it's the best one to make trap.
I make my own beats, may not be the best genre of music, but the scene has been nice to me, and this is my latest one. Just figured I'd post it, since I kinda want criticism on the beat as well.
I'm not a fan of this genre either, so I guess take this with a grain of salt, but here's some random thoughts:
-The beat bothers me less than some people--the siren is maybe overused but I don't think it's a bad idea in and of itself. All in all it sounds pretty serviceable.
-Language. You could rightfully catch a beatdown throwing the n-word around in songs like that. Secondly I don't know, hearing "faggot" in that kinda effeminate voice sounds kind of weirdly petulant (as opposed to hyper-masculine and homophobic when most rappers say it) so that's something to consider.
-Your lyrics are not great, and I understand that with some types of rap it's important to keep them simple, but that doesn't mean you don't have to try, it means you have to be more careful about picking the right words. But it's not too bad considering the amount of time you've been doing this. Just keep practicing and listening to your work with a critical ear and you should be fine.

I like this, but I feel like the synth is too shrill to be at that high a volume, it's starting to fight with the drums for space. I would turn it down maybe 10-20%? Definitely fuxing w/that weird vibe though
Some really siiiick beats in this thread... thanks for all the new finds!
New lo-fi cassette beat tape (somewhat of an experiment) if anyone is interested

I'm gonna agree this was fucking awful. Lyrics that require no talent should never surface on facepunch, or anywhere. Clever wordplay? "You can call these lines with a punch, punchlines" So clever!
Music is an art, and it's already being degraded by the several thousand artists already in the industry to make cash making dance tracks or god awful songs that require minimal thinking. You're probably one of them, based on this latest display. We need less dance tracks and more musical talent, not this long hair #swag #urafaget #nigga shit. Rap was poetry in it's inception, since then it's become a place for people to flaunt things they don't have or show off skill they don't have.
Also, your voice and lyrics are so bad it almost seems like a parody.
Now that I'm done ranting, here is some advice.
1. Don't make music for money.
2. Don't idolize people who make music for money.
3. Don't spend large amounts of money on shit you fail to use properly.
Edit: Felt like my point didn't come across correctly.

Beautiful Snare, nice kick. Dont like the pattern and bass is a bit too extreme.
Anyone have a good Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On drum sample?
I'm in the need for one. :)
As the thread leader i now allow everything 100bpm in this thread since it seems to have become popular at soundcloud.

Here's the first beat I've made since I lost all of my FL Studio things.

I was just messing around not even wanting to make a song, but I heard what that "lead" part is and I thought it sounded very MellowHype-ish... so I made this. I'm not going to keep it on my SoundCloud for very long... just wanted to see if anyone had criticisms and whatnot.
I got to rap on a song by an Australian rapper (I am the American one)

I have to say, this is very much a romanticized and mythologized version of the genesis of rap. The first real MCs weren't poets, they were dudes whose job it was to hype up the crowd >at a party<. They DID boast constantly about being fresh and having skills. And their lyrics were very simplistic.
People like to point to Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" as an example of hip-hop from the beginning with a meaning, but there's a reason people always point to that song specifically--there weren't any others. Even the guys who recorded The Message, at the time, disliked it and thought it was corny. Political and message-oriented hip hop didn't really take off until Public Enemy much later.
I have a vinyl player and I sometimes sample vinyl, but I don't really have any actual hardware for music making other than midi stuff.
How much did you get the MPC1000 for?
Damn, I forgot I posted that earlier. Well the MPC1000 was $500 but I got a SP404sx now too, and I haven't touched the MPC since. Thinking of selling it, but I know I will regret that because I might resample the SP output into the MPC for sequencing, especially when I start making more beats for remixes. I don't make beats for people to rap over, just pocket beats, experimental.
The MPC would probably mesh better if you have a setup that's mostly on the computer. However, if you want something integrated for the computer then the maschines and midi controllers like that would be better. But if you want a standalone piece of hardware that has a REALLY good workflow, where everything is quick and easy to do, the sp-404's are perfect. That's why I fell in love with this. It's cheaper then an MPC too, and if you get an sp-404sx not only can you store like 32gb of audio on it (with the right sd card) but you can get a card reader to drag and drop audio on and off your computer. Assuming you make beats using the resample method entire beats can be dragged off the sampler and onto your computer as well. they sell for around $300 depending on if you use ebay or amazon (I think retail is like 400) my MPC was 500 because I bought it used, new MPC1000's are still a hefty $1000 new.
Another big plus for the 404 is the sp-forums.com which is very active with everything you could want to know about it. Some of the regular guys on the forums are really skilled too. Mr. Dibiase (brainfeeder) regularly posts, and is posting even more frequently especially in the beat battle part of the forums where you will get good praise and constructive criticism from the members.
