I guess I just gotta sacrifice weight for form; sometimes I can't even lift it halfway, usually on the last set. also reasons why I work out: -Aesthetics -Strength -Confidence -Bitches
Yeah, form is very important with lat raises, you've got to be very careful or you do indeed injure your shoulders.
I'm tired of being fat so I really want to start changing my daily habit of just sitting on my ass in front of the PC. I'm 16 and 190 lbs. I plan on just running everyday and cutting down a bit on what I eat. What else should I do?
Weight lifting is also a really good way to lose weight and stay toned. Adding muscle to your body increases your metabolism so your body actually requires more food to operate before storing excess into fat. Don't run everyday, have atleast a day or two as a rest day. Your body needs to heal up and chill every once in awhile.
I Have a problem with my left shoulder. When i do skullcrushers for example, my left shoulder starts to kinda give away, as in I feel the bone sliding out of the socket and I'm forced to drop the weight. What's the best way to work my shoulder to strengthen it? Lateral raises?
Quick question, does anyone remember a website posted in GD a couple months ago for "losing 2 pounds a week just by eating less" it was a really good online exercise logbook and it had basically every food and its calorie counts aswell. Anyone know what I'm talking about/got a link?
I'm not sure I'm familiar with this, however, I'm not the biggest fan of counting calories. If you're trying to lose weight then eat foods that are lower in calories and fat like: raw vegies, fruits, and white meats. Stay away from sodas, fried foods, and (most) red meats and you should see a lot of progress if you stick with it.
Is it me or are lateral raises the hardest fucking exercise EVER?! I feel like I'm gonna injure my shoulder every time I do it.
Not really, they are like the fly's of your shoulders. It's not like you're meant to be able to lift what you press on em
What's the best way to work my shoulder to strengthen it? Lateral raises?
No. Not for your situation since you already have presumably weak shoulders. Do some presses and do them like a fucking man, put that shrug in it (Lifting at the end with your lats). You'll end up working your shoulders and lats. Since your lats help support your shoulders this should help you out more than lateral raises.
You may want to see a doctor about that but it sounds like a possible rotator cuff injury which can be really serious and fuck you over if you're not careful.
Happened to me, nearly severed my rotator cuff after a harsh tackle in rugby. I was told to do this exercise to strengthen the muscle after the healing process: Only use a light weight and keep the movements very slow and controlled.
What is the name of that exercise? I was thinking of that one but I didn´t know its name
Tube external rotation
Lifting weights, eh? I don't really have any weights but these tiny 5 lbs weights my mom uses. How heavy should the weights be and what kind of exercises should I do?
I have a Spanish midterm in ten minutes but I can answer after that or someone else can I just want you to know you´re not being ignored
Ah, gonna add these excercises in my schedule. It doesnt hurt but its just very uncomfortable. I feel like my other muscles can do much more but im hindered by that one shoulder. Maybe im just not putting enough control in and let my shoulders relax.

It would basically put all the stress on your elbow and bicep (Static arm curls - curl + rotation). You must use a band or cable machine in this situation. I'm sure your gym has a cable machine. If you work out at home you can just pick up a cheap band at a sporting goods store and close the door over the other handle (So the handle would be on the other side of the door with the band pinched between the frame and the door). Note that obviously that isn't as stable so make sure you pull hard making sure it is stuck. If you have a power rack (at home) you can just tie the other handle around the vertical tubing at the proper height (much more safe).

While you can target it with certain exercises you can also cause yourself some damage very easily too but putting it under heavy load. Once the damage is done it's done, even though mine is as fully healed as it ever will be I still sometimes suffer from slight pains in the gym.
What is the name of that exercise? I was thinking of that one but I didn´t know its name
Resistance band external rotation.
Lifting weights, eh? I don't really have any weights but these tiny 5 lbs weights my mom uses. How heavy should the weights be and what kind of exercises should I do?
Well if you´re wanting to get serious you´re going to either need a fair amount of money to invest in weights or you´re going to want to get a gym membership (which I recommend more because it´s cheaper and you may or may not be completely dedicated). One of us can set up some sort of work out routine for you if you want.
Had legs two days ago, and now my calves hurt so bad I can't keep my legs properly straight. It hurts so bad :(
Is it me or are lateral raises the hardest fucking exercise EVER?! I feel like I'm gonna injure my shoulder every time I do it.
love lateral raises, bro tip - do them on a cable machiney thingy, i do 30 pounds so about 12kg
Chest + tri's today. Lets go!!
Shoulder day today. There is something AWFULLY wrong with my left shoulder. It's really hard to describe it but I can make a strange movement with my shoulder that makes a "crack/pop" sound. It's impossible to do it with my right shoulder for some reason, it feels almost like there's a muscle missing or something, but I'm sure it's my left shoulder that's fucked up.
Rotator Cuff? My left shoulder clicks and pops a lot too.. It doesn't really hurt, just feels really uncomfortable.
Rotator Cuff? My left shoulder clicks and pops a lot too.. It doesn't really hurt, just feels really uncomfortable.
Yeah I was thinking it was my Rotator Cuff too. We seem to have the same problem. I don't remember injuring it though.
Made this thread earlier: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1065431-Popping-Clicking-from-Left-Shoulder Same thing as you guys?

It will fuck you more, if you don't take care of it. When I see a problem, I confront it directly and not keep training like a monkey. Read up, fix whatever you're doing wrong, before you tear it. Takes a second to tear and weeks on weeks to recover.
