What should I train to be able to do muscle ups? This seems like a fairly useful skill in real life.
Triceps at least I'd imagine.
That's mainly for the part when you're already over the bar. Getting there is the difficult part.

Well let's break it down. It's basically a pull up into a dip so just do a lot of back, bis, and tri's. Doing pull ups and dips would def help.
The transition is a bitch though, I don't even know what muscles I'm supposed to use.

A good way to practice is to maybe cheat a little and try doing it swinging a bit. Don´t let this develop into a bad habit, though. I see so many people at the gym who look like fucking gymnasts when they do pull ups because they swing so much.

like binskbrah said, do pullups, dips, and core, the transition has a lots to do with core
also, try swinging a bit, and then cheating to get up to the dip position by doing one arm at a time, and not both at the same time like you`re supposed to
but binskbros right, don't make it a habit, I see people every day looking retarded as fuck whipping their spine and doing pullups, its the biggest pissoff ever

Every action you do causes erosion to your joints and bones. Lifting a db fucks your joints.
Those aren't pull ups. They're like kick ups or something, 'cause from the looks of it, you barely even pull yourself anywhere, you get all the energy from the legs and core.
