Then your title is misleading. She's not forcing you to buy shit.
yes
Ask her why she wants to buy it for you, just for you to have the ring or to spend money on you. if latter try to convince her to buy you something else
if former deal with it get a ring
we are pretty poor (she makes 20,000$ a year, which is very low by the way). im not saying i want the money personally, i just would rather have the money spent on something more productive.

If this is important to her then she's willing to make sacrifices. Maybe this doesn't involve around your feelings but what would make her happy. Stop being ungrateful.
Holy shit how come people don't know what class rings are. The name's pretty descriptive. Besides it's not hard to deduce what it is after it's said that (in this case) "it's basically just a 600$ reminder of school"

1650ish $ a month is very low?
What.
Tell her you want a Green Lantern ring instead.

My mom is doing the same thing, I refuse to get one because it's a waste of money. I don't even wear jewelery at all.
1650ish $ a month is very low?

It's at the poverty level.
Shorty, don't do it. I didn't get one, and I have no regrets. And we don't have to worry about money as much. Put the money into rent/house payments.
Why would you get one during sophomore year?
Who cares about the graduating class 2 years ahead of you?
What's a class ring?
Get Facepunch engraved onto it.
They're overpriced dumb jewelery that fucks who actually gave two shits about their school buy.
Waste of money in the highest form.

So does no one here know what a class ring is? It's a ring, first off, that has the year you graduated on it made of gold, silver and has jewels all over it and other "artistic" bullshit on it. Again, waste of money.

I think it's because it's an american thing. I live in canada and i had to look it up.
I never bothered to get one....and I'm a senior now and I don't plan to. Though I did want one initially. But that's besides the point. Class rings can be customized to a really nice level, and $600 is like a mid-range price, so it will probably be fairly nice if you chose some good options. I wouldn't get to mad over being forced to by one, as you will probably will find your self marveling over it in a few years and thinking about your years in high school.
Sorry about sounding kinda cheesy but...yeah. I mean even with those ever so embarassing school pictures, you can at least look at them and go "I remember when I was that age". It has a good nostalgic value to it.
Step one: Find a local goldsmith
Step two: Talk with with him/her about it
Step three: Design your own class ring the way you want it instead of using the retarded looking standard designs
Step four: Buy that fucker.
Gratz, you now have custom ring of higher quality (Though probably smaller) for the same price.

Working a minimum wage job as a full time job, while providing for children and retirement etc.
1650 is almost nothing.

Yeah, I've never heard of countries other than America doing it. Waste of money IMO.
I got one years ago. Never wore it after graduation due to my work environment plus it just gets in the fucking way now days.
Waste of money imo.
1650ish $ a month is very low?

God are you 12?
That's very low.
Highschool is way too unimportant to spend $600 on a ring symbolizing it.
I have never been into this high school graduation thing.
I didn't get a class ring.
I took senior pictures only for my mother, I didn't give any out at all (I tried to look purposely ugly.)
I [s]don't think I'll[/s] won't be be going to prom.
I didn't take senior class pictures.
My high school life is something I will want to forget. As soon as I leave I am not going to stay in touch with anyone except one good friend.
[editline]20th January 2011[/editline]
What? no strikethrough?
Ask someone to marry you.
I had to fight mine to GET one. I finally had her to pay half of it (It costed 350$)
Rings are kinda gay. I don't think men should wear them. Or Earrings.

Really sad to hear that. Mine was full of alcool and sex.
and i mean, seriously, prom is awesome. Just don't be a pussy and invite a girl out.

I love alcool.

What's happenin' forum.
I'll be the first to say I love a new ring. But I WOULDN'T shell out six hundred dollars for one, unlike THIS guy.
So, its almost time to order a class ring at my school. My mom wants me to get one (even though i'm only a sophomore at the time) and the one that she wants to get is around 600$ with everything added onto it. honestly, i'd rather spend 600$ on something that i would use more often. if i would get that ring, i would probably never use it after the first time i got it, because i wouldn't want it to get stolen at school or lose it. she insists on buying it no matter how many times i tell her i don't want it and i'd rather spend it on something more useful.
Five stars for memories.
i've honestly never seen anyone with a class ring on. it's basically just a 600$ reminder of school, even though you could do the same with a picture that costs way less.
so, facepunch, what do i do? do i get the ring or do i tell her to save the money?
Looks like this guy, won't forget about his academic years.
