Today after sitting inside all day with a scorching 100 degrees, i decided to take my dad's old record collection ( and estimated 150 or so) which has been in the closet since forever and digitize it. My tools 1 brookstone iConvert Turntable 1 flash drive any suggestions on programs to use to edit the songs would be appriciated first record on to test was the almond brothers *edit probably should have put this in the creative corner
I'm sorry, but why is it 100 degrees inside?
100 degrees outside grammer nazi ZE GRAMMAR
Me and my dad have been intending to "rip" his collection for awhile, So this thread might prove useful.
Does he have any Megadeth or Pink Floyd?
I'd say Audacity, it's an open source music/sound editor http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
If it gets that hot constantly, expect them to be warped. I store my records in a resealable thermal bag thing, keeps them fairly cool and dry.
i have the almond brothers album riped now, i kinda want to put it on youtube or the internet somewhere but since i was doing a fundraiser all day in the 99 degree heat, too tired to do anything but just putting the records on the ripper and listening to them today's album, the beatles HELP! (randomly selected from the top shelf of the closet no less) i'll look into posting the finished songs also some advice for others, find a place to put the recorder and leave it go, my dad suggests disk washer, but the albums are in good shape still and the digital recording has very little if any static other than when i put the needle on the disk the first time lol i actualy pulled up audacity on my own last night, but havent had a chance to get into editing anything
almond brothers
yummy
If you have Pink Floyd... I don't care just fucking rip it in the ripper and put the record in a cryogenic freezer for 100 years from now, and sell it for 8000 dolleuros.

Awesome, nothing as great as a huge vinyl collection. I myself just record it, and if possible, cut it into tracks using just Windows Movie Maker. Sometimes songs are seamless, so I just leave the entire recording as is. When I usually listen to music, it's an hour meditation for me anyways.
audacity really has some nice features, the only old record I have is a crate my step grandparents gave me and it's shitty 50s music, maybe older because it's like "ballroom dance hits Vol. 2"

Ask your local, they'll have one. [editline]22nd July 2011[/editline]
If you have Pink Floyd... Shit is unbelievably cash.
I have a Dark Side of the Moon record. It was still in the vacuum wrap when I got my hands on it, but the wrap kept shrinking so I had to take it off or it'd eventually warp the record. It's only been played once (by me, after taking off the wrap).
I'm sorry, but why is it 100 degrees inside?
Its that hot in my bedrooom right now. No air conditioning yay :v:
I'd also suggest saving them in a loss-less format (Like FLAC or OGG) if you have the room.
This is one of the vinyls I own, and it's my absolute favorite:
wow more response from this thread than i thought, i found a bunch of beatles stuff in his collection, lately been only doing one a day and the flash drive is probably filled cas i accidentaly left it recording for like 2 hours after i removed the record...
Do you recommend the brookstone iConvert Turntable for Vinyl ripping, or are there better ones out there that can rip in higher quality?

Its usually because of the design. Get something like an AT-PL60.
