The date is 1982.

Ok I've got a 12ga pump, 5.56 AR and 9mm glock now I'm looking at maybe adding a .45acp because ya know... anywhoo I've got two that I'm really looking at, there's the Kimber stainless II and the Sig P227 what's everyone's opinions on these two?

that's the machine gun ban, open bolt guns were reclassified as title 2 machine guns in 1982

I don't think any were grandfathered, though, or things like MP-40s would be legal and transferable in semi-auto.
I don't think any were grandfathered, though, or things like MP-40s would be legal and transferable in semi-auto.
anything already made was grandfathered. nobody ever made a semi-auto mp40 to my knowledge so that's not really relevant.
sig because kimber guns aren't "fine"
What's wrong with them? I know very little about Kimber other than people keep telling to check them out on 1911's
What's wrong with them? I know very little about Kimber other than people keep telling to check them out on 1911's
pay HK prices for 1911 performance
there's kind of a cap on how good 1911s can be; kimbers definitely aren't worth the extra grand for a 10% overall improvement over a $600 1911
if you want a 1911 get an umarex regent, they run fine and cost jack shit. just replace the stock aluminum magazine because it's garbage

Yeah I saw an open bolt mac 10 there.
So I've been looking at cheap pistols, thinking about getting a Romanian Tokarev, anyone ever shoot one?
So I've been looking at cheap pistols, thinking about getting a Romanian Tokarev, anyone ever shoot one?
I have one. I think mine is a Yugo though. I like it. It's similar to a 1911 design. If you want "cheap" though get a Ruger LCR or LCP. What caliber do you want?

toks are great but the round they shoot has major overpenetration problems
toks are great but the round they shoot has major overpenetration problems
Isn't it expensive and hard to find now too? All the surplus of it is gone, so now it is a specialty round.
Isn't it expensive and hard to find now too? All the surplus of it is gone, so now it is a specialty round.
it's not as incredibly cheap as it used to be but you can still get it for like 35-40 cents a round at normal non-bulk prices.
toks are great but the round they shoot has major overpenetration problems
Don't use it as a defense gun then.
What's wrong with them? I know very little about Kimber other than people keep telling to check them out on 1911's
Yeah they're stupid overpriced. I've only shot one a few times but eh, I'd rather save a good chunk of change and pick up like a Springfield Armory and essentially feel the same. Hell I can't even really tell much of a difference from a Ruger to a Kimber.

So what price would be the max I should spend on a 1911?
So what price would be the max I should spend on a 1911?
Depends on your budget. Kinda an open ended question. Rock Island Armory makes them for $400 or so. Those are decent.
So what price would be the max I should spend on a 1911?
I'd say like a grand tops but there's many good options for ~$700 as well. Also yeah, the rock island ones are really good for the price. It's a well functioning 1911 that's mostly milspec (depending on the model) for under $500.
So my LGS has a new in box Kimber stainless II for $740 should I get that or that Springfield armory mil spec above for about the same price. I'm looking for the best 1911 for about 800$ or less.
So.. my M&P 45 is a blast to shoot. I'm a huge fan. I just wish .45 wasn't 30$ a box.
[editline]30th April 2016[/editline]
Are you getting one just to get a 1911? Or do you have a specific reason for getting a 1911?
No specific reason I just like the 1911 looks and getting it as a range toy but I don't like buying low end nor do I buy some ridiculous 2500$ one either just a good middle of the road gun
That and I do not own a .45acp yet and I want one.
I almost got a Rock Island Armory 12ga shotgun at the show today for $225
If you're getting one just to have one, then I'd lean away from Kimbers and Colts, aim more for Springfield, RIA, etc, the middle shelf brands.
Any other shotgun suggestions for ~$200? Main reason I didn't get the ones I saw, was because they had no rear sight. Which bugs me.
Any other shotgun suggestions for ~$200? Main reason I didn't get the ones I saw, was because they had no rear sight. Which bugs me.
you mean a bead sight? they arent that bad ,but may take some getting used to.
I bet you could find a maverick with ghost rings maybe? usually $250 or less, or maybe that interstate hawk or savage/stevens tactical pumps.
No, like zero rear sight. Just a front post sight. I prefer slugs with a shotgun. Can't be accurate with no rear sight. I saw an RII and a Stevens (I think?) both had absolutely no rear sight.
speak for yourself, I can put a slug on paper at 100 yards with a bead sight

How do you line up the shot with one sight?

It's easier if you have a vent rib. You lower your eye level till the bead is sitting on a platform with no top part of the rib showing. Bead sights mounted low and directly on top of the barrel are another can of worms.

I just have very little shotgun experience. (20+ years experience in every single other type of gun) I've also been looking at the Mossberg 500 as a starter.
