Coincidentally I found a 23" military barrel for my M10 today so the recoil problem is about to get even worse :v:

Rusty but I think it's salvageable, won't cost me much to get it anyway so I might as well try. I hope the breech isn't totally fucked. Threads might be ruined once I get the rust off... Looks like it used to have a bayonet lug on it, no idea what the silver strip could be other than that. If I get it to where I can use it I'll probably put a bayonet lug on it.
Anyone in Canuckistan (if there's any other Canadians here) want some 8mm Mauser ammo from the '20s? I'll trade you for modern 8mm.
Okay guys, can you help a brother in need of some info?
I recently bought this firearm, it is a modified Mauser Gewehr 98 carbine. It has a new stock and front sight but the receiver is marked "Danzig 1916" and it has "Gew 98" written on one side. Typical of Gewehr 98's. It also has Imperial German markings. So this appears to be a WW1 Gewehr 98 with the barrel chopped down so it's flush with the front of of the handguard, similar to a Lee-Enfield No I Mk III but with no metal end cap, just a blued, spring clip held in by a spring with an indent. It has a turned down bolt handle but no cut-out in the stock. The bayonet lug has been removed as well.
I can't find any information on these rifles, though I have seen a few for sale before, just for considerably more (I don't believe the guy at the pawn shop knew the value of the rifle). I believe they are post-WW1 police reworks of Gewehr 98's into shortened carbines with updated leaf sights and turned down bolt handles. It does appear to be reblued at some point. It shoots like a dream though, if only the ammunition weren't so damn expensive.
So does anyone know anything about rare Mauser variants? I may get some pictures at some point. It doesn't look like some kind of bubba hack-job and I have seen identical rifles before.
It sounds like an English style sporting rifle, actually. I have heard that a lot of English firms post WW1 built sporting rifles out of G98s. Try to get a picture - we'll be able to tell you more. If it was a police rifle you will probably find a stamp on it somewhere to the effect of "gendarmerie". My SMLE was stamped Osterreich Gendarmerie.
Could you possibly be describing a Mannlicher style stock?

Nah, it's a standard Gewehr 98 stock with the barrel cut flush with the front handguard. The stock is in two separate pieces and it does have the Mauser-style upper handguard like a K98k or a Gewehr 98.
It also has a rear leaf sight more like a K98k and a new front sight post. I'm almost certain that whoever modified it wasn't a civilian with aftermarket parts. I could be wrong though. I'll get some pics tomorrow.
Oh and the stock has finger grooves.
So I've been meaning to ask, how do you guys feel about zip guns and other homemade firearms? It's legal to make them as long as you follow the laws, and as long as you make it for yourself. Have any of ya'll ever made one? I ask because I'm actually making a little 22. Not finished yet, but when it is, I'll post it here. I plan on firing 22 shorts and the 22lr Colibri rounds with it.

I've made pipe shotguns before but tbh who hasn't
I'd like to build a semi auto someday, or if the ATF starts approving them a submachine gun

I've always wanted a mac 10 type thing in .22 that fires like a billion rounds per minute

I'm just worried that the threads will have lost so much steel it won't lock up with the receiver. Time will tell I guess.

Why not try scrubbing the rust spots with some gun cleaner and a scotchbrite pad? Couldn't hurt it too bad. That helped me when my 1911 had some rust poking through its plating.
I should clarify that I bought it online and it's not here yet, so I was just voicing a reservation I had. I'm gonna try every trick I know to bust the rust once it gets here.
tea is the way to go. it's not abrasive so you won't get any scratches, just maybe pitting where the rust is, and it's not as aggressive as vinegar so you can just throw it in there and forget about it
So I'm contemplating putting a bid in on this guy http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=557264230
I have had a crazy fascination with the Stoner 63, and this is the closest i can get to it. I just hope it stays under $1200.

Now way will it stay under 1200. Last minute, that thing will jump with a bunch of people trying to bid snipe.

I love the idea. I had a great design drawn out a while ago for a slamfire 12ga that, when sliding the barrel forward, would extract the spent shell and use gravity to drop it out the bottom, making it that much faster to reload.
Got my CCW license today I'm highly thinking about buying a carry gun. I have plenty of pistols but only one that's of a sane size for carrying (para-ord night hawg .45) I like that it's .45 and it's an accurate little fucker for being a sub compact .45 but I got big paws and the fact that my pinky and part of my ring finger hangs off the bottom annoys the shit out of me. So my question is does anyone have any recommendations for a decent carry gun in 9mm or .45 that has a full size or at least close to it grip? single stack or double doesn't really matter nor does brand I ain't picky as long as it goes bang
Edit:
Just to give you guys a size reference for kinda what I'm looking for I would be totally okay with carrying my G19 if it didn't have a race trigger and zev techs dragonfly slide

Which people still try surprisingly often given there's a 15 minute rule.

I have an idea for a slam fire in my head, just gotta write it down. I have also been considering something like a Luty, just haven't decided yet. To be fair, if I could make a rifle styled Luty inspired semi auto, would be kind of neat. I have browsed random PDF's and such, but I haven't really decided.
Welcome to the watchlist

Highly doubtful, completely legal, lol. I'd know by now anyway, figured the background check for a security clearance would've picked that up. At least, you would think so... I'd hope.

Plenty of legal things get you on watchlists. Hell downloading certain widely used Linux distros get you on them.
Czechnology acquired.

It's not that much bigger than a G21/20, the barrel, sights and magazine all stick out:

I'll have some shiney new czechnology by next weekend. Am excited.

I'd be amazed if I wasn't already on a watchlist
Welcome to the watchlist
If I'm not on atleast 1 watchlist by now I will be sorely dissapointed

Well that's kinda dumb then. I guess I'm on a few by now, lol.
I can only hope that someday all that will be declassified and made public, so we can all have dick waving contests over how many lists we were on.
I'm on at least one, as is every gun owner in this country.
Whoever loses buys all the beer for the watchlist party.

send the form to all the 930230 government bodies/agencies that operate lists, wait 50 years for answers, and there you go
And when you get it, it'll be completely blacked out "to protect sensitive information".
