Shot my .380 today and it was jamming like shit. So were 3 other .380s. The one person whose .380 was working said to leave the mags loaded for a month to loosen them up then try. I guess I'm gonna try that before I call Browning.

What gun is it again?
What gun is it again?
Browning 1911 .380 iirc

Was it failures to feed, eject, or stovepipes?
Failure to feed, the rounds were stopping out of battery, I would have to push the slide closed. 3 of us had the same problems, and mine is brand new.
[editline]15th May 2016[/editline]
And it wasn't limp wristing either. It was common in the first 3 shots or so of the mag, especially the first 2, but it did it less as the mag was expended.
Is the feed ramp polished or does it have a surface finish?

I want this. Anyone have one?

Do I look like I'm made of money? Those are like $5000.
I know a guy who has two G43s and a K43 that he inherited from his grandpa who brought them all back from the war or something, one of them is sniper marked with a matched scope and all of them have original slings. The three of them together are probably worth $15,000 at least.
A gun store happened to have 50 rounds of Winchester white box 7.62 Tokarev so I finally get to shoot my C96 again soon.
Finally found a bullpup that I actually felt comfortable handling - an AUG. Wish they were affordable. Every other bullpup I've played with, I've hated.

DON'T! You can shoot 7.63 Mauser out of a Tokarev but shooting 7.62 Tokarev out of a C96 can damage it.
DON'T! You can shoot 7.63 Mauser out of a Tokarev but shooting 7.62 Tokarev out of a C96 can damage it.
That's a myth and anyway the white box Tok is loaded lighter than any factory .30 Mauser ammo.
The myth is specifically to do with surplus Czech "subgun" ammo and that's not "subgun" ammo as much as it is really shittily loaded handgun ammo. 7.62 Tokarev is identical to 7.63 Mauser, down to the powder load - the difference is just that the Germans rounded up on the bullet diameter and the Soviets rounded down. The Soviets used 7.62 Tokarev in their C96s regularly - why would they issue ammo that could blow up their own guns?
Here's where I believe this myth began;
In the 80s and 90s you could easily get ex-Chinese army C96s. These had been shot to bits and had very old, very weak recoil springs, but they were cheap and a lot of people bought them because they were unusual. Cheap people bought cheap ammo - this happened to be Czech surplus 7.62 Tokarev, the cheapest surplus 7.62 Tokarev you could get. This ammo was not loaded with any rhyme or reason so running this no-QC ammo through a shot-out gun with a weak recoil spring would lead to battering and eventual failure of the bolt stop. The result? "This ammo blew up my gun!" Most of these Chinese C96s have probably been melted down into paperclips or something by now as they were seriously problematic guns and I've only ever seen a few "in the wild".
This shitty Czech ammo is the same reason many imported CZ-52s have all kinds of cracked or badly peened parts, and it will explode a Tokarev before it will a C96.
My C96 is a mechanically pristine WW1 bringback and I shoot 7.62 through it regularly - but not shitty Czech surplus. My bolt stop looks brand new, there is no battering. It functions fine and shoots just the same as the real .30 Mauser I had at one point. I have fitted new Wolff springs in my C96 to replace the tired old one and as far as I know the bolt isn't intended to contact the bolt stop during firing and doesn't seem to now. Keep in mind the C96 has a very strong action - it will not explode, but the bolt stop can shear if the ammo really is too hot... still, the 7.63s reamed to take 9mm will chew through 9mm+P trouble-free as long as they have recent springs like mine.
That said, I would like to get a repro bolt stop just for peace of mind - I don't want to risk damaging the original at all, which is numbered to the gun and still retains its original fire-blue finish (despite my regular use of 7.62 Tokarev). But it is considered a wearing part that can fail semi-spontaneously and is designed to break before any other part of the gun is damaged (kind of like a crumple zone for guns :v:) and I'd hate to have it shear. Even if it did, I'd just have to put a new bolt stop in - but that's an original part destroyed.
fucking sell it dude
stop wasting your time and joy on a shitty gun that doesn't want to work
It looks cool though.
And no one wants a broken piece of shit Kel-Tec. I couldn't sell it if I wanted too and in my state it's probably safer to just keep it than try to sell it.
And it bothers me having a single gun in my collection that's broken. They all need to function reliably or I get all OCD.

heh you are about 25 miles west of me for the time being i'm back home for 2 weeks
Also when I actually get back home home I'm picking up a Sig P320 Compact I got a chance to shoot one along with an HK USP compact and while the USP points a little better the Sig shot better overall for me and just felt better in general

I was never so goddamn glad to move out of a state in my life as I was when I moved out of Illinois if it wasn't for the fact my entire family lives in southern Illinois I'd never step foot in IL again. I have yet to find a state that's shittier than Illinois and I've lived in a few (AZ,NM,CO,GA,SC,AL,TN) Illinois can suck a fat dick

I figure I'll move to Wisconsin when I can afford it. Less densely populated, nicer landscape, and (as far as I know) a government that actually functions.
Oh, and they allow open carry, and have decent concealed carry laws. Unlike here, where the only place you can legally CC is your back porch apparently.
Montana is my planned retirement state, landscape is amazing.

I was never so damn iffy in my life as when I pulled my (legally) concealed gun on someone on my own land in Illinois. I know it's legal but damn it wouldn't be the first time Illinois fucked someone

Try North Dakota. Similar gun laws and isn't made up entirely of mud like Montana is. Montana has no sales tax so I'll usually buy a gun when I'm over there for work.

montana is definitely not all mud
I've got cash to burn and 2 guns I'm looking at.
First one is the HK45c Tactical. Feels nice and comes with a threaded barrel for when I want to buy a suppressor and suppress it. On the high end though clocking in at $1400 since its a special order thing. Gun prices in my area suck overall.
The other is a Saiga 12. Found one for $800 and it will be roughly $850 after shipping and transfer fee. To me, if I grab it now, the prices will surely skyrocket once fall rolls around with the whole election going on. I don't intend on reselling it, I just liked how it felt when using slugs compared to other shotguns I have used. I use slugs because range rules.
Which one should I go for?

Neither, go for a CZ P09 Urban Gray Suppressor Ready like I got for $550 or get a VEPR 12 for $700, usually from Classic:

VEPR 12s run better than Saiga 12s, they don't have the gas system issues.
Can confirm like 4 of my next 6 planned firearms purchases are CZ's. IDK if it's just me but they almost all seem to be a perfect fit in my hand and handle very well.

I don't run bird shot. Last Saiga 12 I had I sold to pay for another gun and I am kicking my self for it. It was actually the nicest recoiling shotguns I used with slugs. I haven't had any experience with the Veprs. I am a bit hesitant on getting a Vepr since getting at the puck in that one is harder and that mags aren't as easy to get. Saigas truly suck if you are just using bulk target loads. Using actual hunting or defense loads, the gun will run fine.
With the introduction of the DDI 12, I can get decent Saiga mags. I will not get a DDI 12 though since the modifications they did ruined the look of the saiga and the safety on it is shit.
The ATF allows an exception for C96s with stocks that are "replicas of original stocks." Do you figure I'd get away with a replica of a prototype wire stock? I have a wood one, but I'd sure like the option of a lighter wire one to carry around the lease.

Probably for the best, yeah. As for the stock itself I'll have to find a picture - I saw it in a book somewhere. There are a lot of interesting experimental C96s and related hardware that barely have a footnote devoted to them anywhere in the world, so it might be kind of hard to find it online.
This isn't what I'm talking about, but here's a neat C96 variant most people probably haven't heard of:

The PASAM. I've always been of the opinion the C96 would make a good PDW with some modernizations; the PASAM is in that ballpark.
I believe the one I saw was an adapted 1911 stock.
Round two with my KSG. I think I'm taking it out tomorrow to shoot and see what happens. I'm also taking my M1 Carbine since I replaced the mag catch which I'm confident fixed my feeding issue and my little .380 Bodyguard just because I carry it everyday and I like knowing that even caked with pocket lint I can rely on it.
Anyway, so I already bent the lifter arms which did seem to fix my shell-hitting-the-chamber-lip-issue. Haven't had it happen since. But I was getting shells stuck in the magazine and not feeding reliably. I had replaced the shell-stop with a brand new one but like all Kel-Tec parts they're probably hand made in Pakistan so I had to polish it before shells would actually reliably feed. Than I had to polish the surface on the bolt carrier the shells slide over when you are unloading shells from the magazine manually, before I had to push up on the carrier each time but now they come out like God intended.
So, hopefully it works. I feel good about it, I think I figured it all out. Than I can dress it up with tactical accessories and leave it in the safe for another year until I meet someone I want to impress with my John Wick gun and this time I won't be embarrassed because it's a malfunctioning piece of shit.

Saw something at a gun show recently with that stock, but it was a 22. I still wanted it.
