Almost bought one of those because of Fallout 3. Then I realized I wanted a gun that had available ammo, so I got a PPK instead.

My dad's god a .25 pocket that he got for my grandma back when she was working in a really bad neighborhood. That ammo is so damn expensive now.

I have a ton of .38 S&W sitting around that was just given to me at an estate sale. No idea if any of it is any good, but it seems to all be 1920s production.

Never really been fond of AR's but I figured I should own one for a while since this next election may be my last chance too for a while.
Weren't you bitching about how you were too good for the AR market, and now you've bought one of the most expensive brands?
Maybe I'm just having flashbacks to Trunk Monkay or someone who I'm not entirely convinced you're not an alt of.

Pretty much yea. Going to run a box through it then throw it in the safe and double my money during the election.
I think i'll grab a Saiga 12 just to have on hand. They will want to ban it, and I will have it. Even with it's issues and all.
Even though I don't need one for in state carry I think I'm going to pick up a CCW here. Mississippi permits are accepted in pretty much any state I'd see myself going to.
This is most of my firearms purchases since my return from deployment in January(excluding the SKS which I already had). I just purchased the EAA Revolver a little over a week ago for $400 with tax brand new. That bad boy is chambered in .357 Magnum.

So I've been to every dealer in my area and asked about this PTR MSG 91 SS. No one has it, half of them haven't heard of it. Most of them don't know how to get one. I've asked a few bigger shops to keep an eye on one from their distributors.
At this point though, what would the recommended course of action be to get a hold of one? I've sent an e-mail to the manufacturer asking about either an individual order, or where I could get one.
Would it be worthwhile looking at the out of state dealers for something like this and having them ship it?

I would just go to gunbroker or something like that. My guess is they only do a limited run a few times a year on those. I just did a quick search through some of the distributors my shop uses and none had any available, which means those that are are already in somebodies/shops hands.

I checked GunBroker, but they only have the 18". I was really going for the 20" SS if I was going for the PTR.
One guy at the shop recommended me a SIG 716 DMR. Told me it would cost me $2300-2400. I giggled...

Just get the 18, 308 performs better out of a 18 anyways.

Look on Atlantic Firearms. They should have one.
So I can get a decent condition M/1938 Swedish Mauser Carbine, a great condition M44 Mosin Nagant (made in 1960) Carbine, a good condition Danish 1889 Krag-Jørgensen, a rather worn and mismatched Mauser 98K made in 1942, or a good condition Gewehr 98 made in 1917 for about the same price (421 USD).
Out of all of them, the Swedish Mauser carbine and the Gewehr 98 are probably the best shooters from what I hear.
To be honest, the M44 Mosin Nagant Carbine is what I want the most, since I have handled nothing but Mauser actions since I started shooting rifles, but I have heard that Mosins can be all over the table quality and accuracy wise, although this one looks like it is in fantastic condition and haven't been fired much.
The Danish Krag is probably the rarest of the bunch, and likely also a decent shooter.
The ammunition for it (8x58RD) is just going to be seven times more expensive than shooting surplus 7,62x54R, and I intend to shoot anything I purchase, and shoot it a lot.
For some reason all the 98K's in decent condition are at least twice as expensive as all these guns. Apparently having been through WW2 makes them a lot more collectible.
Which one would you guys pick?
Seeing so many pumps, semis and such loosely regulated pistols here makes my Australian heart cry.
Download, how much/how easy to find is .303 British? I'm looking into Enfields, but I wanna know l can use it.
I may or may not be converting a crosman 2240 to fire caseless ammo similar to what a daisy vl uses sooner or later, depending on whether or not I can figure out a quick and easy and repeatable way to make the ammo without spending any money on tooling
gonna be very low power, like 22 CB, and use regular old capacitor discharge to fire. should be pretty damn fun
I may be taking up too much for a beginner, but I think I'm going to 'restore'/sporterize an Enfield, after being inspired by this.

Subtle modernizations and restorations that stay true somewhat to the original are always cool.

der we go, now it is betr. now I can finali defend myself in zombi apocal
It's not like SKS' are rare rifles with rich histories. Chinese copies only ever fought in 1 major war before they were delegated to honor guard units and what not. Who cares if an SKS gets turned into something more practical?

stop
do not sporterize an enfield, un-fucked vintage military rifles are hard enough to find without people ruining what's left
seriously just buy one that bubba's already jacked up if you want a sporter that bad, 98% of untouched enfields don't need "restoration" let alone sporterization
e: hell if you're in texas and want a project i have a no.4 sporter that i want to get rid of, you can have it for $60

If someone buys a rifle, they can customize it however they damn well please. Your taste isn't somehow superior to everyone else's because 'muh historical significance.'
If someone buys a rifle, they can customize it however they damn well please. Your taste isn't somehow superior to everyone else's because 'muh historical significance.'
it's a good thing you're in a minority of people who think this way or we'd really be in trouble in the history department
it's nearly impossible to find old military rifles that haven't already been tampered with in some way in my area whereas you can get bubba's "improved" mauser, enfield, etc. for $100.
the one i'm trying to be rid of, i bought in its current state (sans bolt) for $60 and added a bolt, another $60. still don't want it. im selling it for $60. before the prior owner wrecked it it would've been worth $600 at least.
since you lack a sense of history to appeal to, let's try this: why buy a rare and valuable (nevermind historic) rifle just to turn it into yet another dime a dozen mutant sporter when you can already get one of those for dirt??? it's like buying a mint 32 ford, using your grandpappy's hacksaw to chop the top, tearing the fenders off with a sawzall and dropping a 350 in it. it goes from an $80,000 car to a $10,000 car in seconds flat and that's if you aren't concerned in the slightest about the sacked historic value of the thing.
i saved a minty bcd 45 kar98k from the very jaws of sporterization - a rifle worth a couple thousand dollars nearly turned into a $200 waste of time. brought back from the second world war by a vet who plucked it from the factory floor, preserved for the next 70 years by someone who cared about it - and most of it was about to get chopped off and chunked in the trash. why would you do this? there's no excuse
Went to the show today and saw lots of over priced revolvers and Keltecs. I don't understand how some of these shops can stay alive with that stuff so overpriced. Saw a Ruger SP101 in 327 Fed Mag that I have been looking for, but it was priced way too high at over $700. Only other notable gun was a Interarms PPK/S brand new in box for roughly $700.
And as usual, there's 5+ tables covered in cheap Chinese knock offs of various accessories that they are charging way too much for. I would never trust a gunshow sight/scope.
If someone buys a rifle, they can customize it however they damn well please. Your taste isn't somehow superior to everyone else's because 'muh historical significance.'
Then buy a rifle that's meant to be customized.
You're going to get better performance out of a rifle that was meant to be used as a sporting/hunting rifle than an old military bolt action rifle that was never designed to be used the way you are using it.
Not only that but you'll save money in the long run. .303 British is not a particularly cheap round to come by and sporterizing a military bolt action rifle will only devalue the rifle you bought, no matter what modifications you decide to do to it.
You're better off customizing something like a Remington Model 700, because not only will you get better performance, your customizations will also not devalue the rifle. A sporterized Lee Enfield will never be worth as much as an original, all matching model so if you ever go to sell it, you're just fucking yourself over by dumping money into scopes, stocks and triggers that ultimately will make the rifle worth far less in the event that you end up selling it.

Have fun. Base rifles are around $600 in a massive range of different calibers and quite frankly these things will out-perform any custom hack-job you could do to a Lee Enfield, Mauser, Mosin Nagant or any kind of older bolt action rifle and they look way better doing it.
