The one I linked to gets pinned to the bottom (of a traditional) AR-15 front sight post.
That's the one I was referring to though. Carried an M4 with one installed in Basic.
Sorry, miscommunication.

I think I may have developed an obsession with getting my rifle as close to mil-spec as possible.
More fool me for buying an AR556.
What is mil-spec anymore? I mean other than its bogus usage on Chinese made AR-accessories.
Do any branches of the military even publish what exactly their M4's/M16's wear nowadays?

The US Military publishes in great detail their military standards for most items to manufacturers can easily meet them.
[editline]6th June 2016[/editline]
They even have standards for the format of standards - MIL-STD-961E(1), MIL-STD-962D(1), and MIL-STD-967(1).
[editline]6th June 2016[/editline]
There are tens of thousands of standards. They've culled a large number and replaced them with industry stands but there's still a huge number left.

Mil-spec is the Lowest fit and finish that meets the requirements for a product that the military will accept. It's all fine and dandy, but remember that the ones making the gun/parts are doing it at the cheapest they can go while staying in mil spec.
On the other hand, the civilian market can go below or well above the military's specifications, even use different materials all together. Nsz85 has a good vid on what mil spec is and it isn't.

I don't think there is one. It's some guy wearing a Touhou outfit and shooting a gun.
That's the joke.
well that's stupid
video is even dumber now that i know he's dressing up as his favorite anime

Thanks. The nerd in me loves new channels that actually wants to help new shooters, not tell how bad our government is, and wants to make sure everyone learns. I've admittedly learned stuff from him, and I'm okay-ish on weapons in general.
I got tired of being jerked around for my armed guard class. I gotta get a hold of these people and get my money back, I may lose my deposit though. I signed up in April and they cancelled on me and have never rescheduled the class locally. Only the other site hours away that I'm not going to commute to for this.
I already signed up and paid for a class this month with a different company. Lots of money tied up right now, this sucks.
Than I just realized if I get my armed guard license I need to put together one of those duty-belt sort of things for my gun and junk.

Anyone recommendations on a good retention holster? I usually use SERPA's which I like but if I am going to be working with the public I want something easier to retain from if for some reason someone went for it. 5.11 had an interesting design I was considering. SERPA have different levels as well but I haven't checked them out yet.
Retention holster, better than a SERPA:

I've played with one of those at the police supply store. I didn't particularly like it. it's bulky and I don't like the exposed muzzle. I think it would be very good in combination with a chest rig or some bulky body armor but I prefer to wear concealable armor in the off chance I'm doing security detail.
Sweet, finally found a place to shoot. My boss's good friend has a range a couple miles down from me but wouldn't see if I could use it. Talked to my neighbor today to just ask about places in the area and he said he'd take me to said range anytime.
Could you guys recommend an LE stock pad?
Can you be more specific on what you are asking. Are you talking about a recoil pad?
If youre talking about a recoil pad and you dont have some rediculous high caliber without a recoil system, dont bother

it's a good 2 hours from where you live but just a hair south of brooklyn, ms is an awesome free and unmoderated range run by the forestry service. it's open 7 days a week sun up till sun down
usually you'll be the only one there which is rad and anything that you legally own you're allowed to shoot there.

I've shot a ton of tannerite there and regularly chew through 1000 rounds a trip
last time I was there I shot 200 rounds of high brass 12 gauge and had a hell of a bruise for like 2 weeks

I have recoil pads on some of my guns to increase the length of pull.
also have one on my bubba'd mauser because 8mm and a metal buttplate hurts
So Adler A110s in 28" barrel have made their way into the country. They're $799. I'd debating financing one over 3 months with 0% interest just to give myself the illusion that I have more in my bank account than I do, with $500 down. Should I?

K98 shooter confirming 8mm + metal buttplate = hurt. That's a rifle I just deal with it on though.
On my Remington M10 I use a slip on butt pad because the recoil is inexplicably fucking ridiculous on that gun for some reason.

where do you get your 8mm ammo? I have a supply problem. all that's available locally as far as I've found is super marked up reloads at gun shows
If youre talking about a recoil pad and you dont have some rediculous high caliber without a recoil system, dont bother
I remember when Louisiana turned black powder season into primitive season so my uncle picked up this really lightweight breechloader in .308 and we each shot it once and immediately decided a recoil pad was necessary.
where do you get your 8mm ammo? I have a supply problem. all that's available locally as far as I've found is super marked up reloads at gun shows
I just buy Remington 8mm off the shelf. It's not cheap ($30-40 a box) but it's clean and accurate. This isn't a rifle we put a lot of rounds through due to its collector value (it's a minty all-matching bcd45) so one box is good for a single range trip.
Midway has Sellier & Bellot for $25/20 which isn't bad if you don't mind ordering ammo online.

They've also got this stuff at $13.29/20. I probably wouldn't put it through a nice Mauser since it's Berdan-primed but since yours is already ruined it's probably fine.

Yeah that's a hair over 3 hours for me :v:
I'm not in Jackson, I'm a half hour north of Vicksburg.
My old boss sells tannerite though, had a friend that owned a junkyard so they'd use that for disposal a lot. Nothing quite like 5lbs of tannerite in an old ambulance.
Sure I made a watchlist typing that.
Dude your poor automerge :v:

I was thinking you were in like clinton or raymond or something, somewhere in hinds county
still it's a badass range and I happily drive an hour to get there all the time
also, 3 hours if you drive the speed limit, but you could still get there in 2 if you mash it

You'd just gotta be a magician to even push it past 60. It hasn't been doing too well since the engine basically spontaneously combusted and had to be rebuilt.

Im not massively overwight or 6'6 so I dont use them for spacers. I dont use one on my K98 but im not shooting 200 rounds each range trip.
As far as ammo goes, I get some Privi for about $18 a box locally, but Aimsurplus usually has it cheaper I think. Not the best ammo out there but it burns clean and isnt corrosive. Id buy it over a box of Winchester white box or remington.

I feel like I'm getting a lot of shit for saying an almost 40 year old empty box feels terrifying to drive at its top speed with wind. :v:
You guys come down and try it for yourselves. Except butre, he'll wrap it around a tree.
Nah I believe you I just wanted to say it cuz it was us 3 in both threads
