I have a G3.. why would I want a PTR 91? If I was going for an HK style weapon, i'd just build it myself; no way i'd buy something off the shelf. Especially not for something that can be had as cheap as a G3 clone.
I'll go with a heavy barrel tikka.
I don't know what you are smoking but HK anything, particularly builds, are not cheap. The base price for a parts kit would be at least $1000. Throw in a full receiver kit and a press and that's beyond $2000. HK builds are never cheap. If you fuck up the build, there are few people who can fix it and it will still be a hefty chunk of change needed for the fix.
Get a PTR 91. Good clones that don't break the bank unlike most quality AR10's, shoddy M1a's, or other 308 semi auto rifles. I'm partial to the GI version from Atlantic.
So, at work today I got into a conversation with my boss who before becoming a lawyer was a cop. We were discussing how the police shot a guy with a knife in Sydney yesterday and how they managed to hit three old ladies in the process (three rounds fired, three holes in the suspect...). Apparently, back in the 70s instead of shooting a person wielding a knife they would have one officer bait the guy while the other comes up behind him. He's not known to bullshit but it does seem rather odd.
Apparently he also shot and killed a guy with a shotgun who had just murdered someone else too. I'm trying to dig up old newspapers.

Pretty certain a HP round will go in one side of a skinny dude and out the other.

I saw the old round the cops used in the S&W 357's they used to have, Hollow point.

No. Not until springfield stops making their recievers out of the equivilant of pot metal.
I wouldn't buy an M1A until a different company all together made them. I'd buy an old polytech before I buy another M1A.
License arrived boys.
I am now despised by the Australian Greens.
In all honesty if I was going to do another battle rifle for battle rifle's sake, I'd just buy a garand and be done with it. But I'll be getting a heavy barrel .308 tikka instead.
I've been looking for a reasonably priced 308 garand for years. Probably will never find one.

back when it was still available black talon was pretty much the standard around here. don't know what they're using now. probably sxt
Classic Firearms had 7.5X55 Swiss on sale so I got a case. Great price (for what I normally pay).
I've been offered one for 1.2k; but in all honesty I'd prefer the original 30-06 if I'm getting a garand.
Honestly I would too at that price. I'd buy a 308 garand for under a grand (hurr), but it doesn't make much sense to buy one for more than that. They're cool and fun but not at all practical.
It's 3AM and I just bought my first shotgun. Hopefully it'll be here next week.

A 308 Garand is pretty practical I think, as far as surplus rifles go.
I want a Sig 550

STANAG mags are cheap, though
but that's a 552 with an ugly stanag lower..
[editline]11th June 2016[/editline]
556*
I have the similar thoughts when looking at IWI's Galil Ace Nato rifle. Takes Ar mags but ruins the gun's form. I like how the ACE looks with one of their proprietary 35 round mags are in it.
while i appreciate the thought just as much as you guys i think it's kinda stupid how "everyone" stateside flips their shit if a manufacturer comes out with a gun that doesn't use AR-15 or AR-10 mags
any company with a microscopic remain of intelligence will try to sell their own mags to make money
Would you rather pay $25 for a mag or $100? That's why people do STANAG.

The only stupid law regarding guns in MN law is we can't have SBS's. I never thought I'd want one until seeing this. It's like the saiga fell into a vat of chemicals and evolved into a super hero.
Decent rifu is decent. The PSL's downfall is it's pencil thin barrel, you'll find that after 3 mags you'll start losing accuracy till you let it cool. I ended up getting rid of mine for that reason.
What are you shooting where you find yourself going through 3 mags that quickly?
