So I have stumbled upon a Sig 516 upper with a .300 blackout barrel. If I put this on my 5.56 lower, will everything still be hunky-dory? I believe I was told at a gun show it only needed a .300 barrel to be functional.

Yeah it should be OK. I know that some lowers have trouble with certain uppers though.
Just saw an ad for this, thoughts? I'm not sure how I feel about adding potentially precious seconds of time onto making my firearm usable.

If I wanted to fiddle with a dial, I'd just shove my gun into a safe...
and wouldn't it get annoying having to memorize an additional combination for every single gun you have?

Nobody in the US is gonna want to use that unless they have kids, and it'll be too expensive for anyone in Canada to want to use it instead of a normal trigger lock when transporting their restricted firearms. Maybe some people who only leave their guns in a closet will want one for their rifles/shotguns, since they still need to be locked if they're in a closet and not a safe, but that of course would require a rifle/shotgun version be made.
So, my neighbors were lighting off a lot of very loud fireworks, so I decided some celebratory gunfire was in order. I put a compensator on a Walther PPX and went to town. Kinda cool to see the fire come out of the comp ports.
(Yes, I had a proper backstop.)
Went shooting for 4th of July at my buddys ranch, lots of guns and lots of people. I took the C96 out and nearly lost it cause its case bounced off a 4 wheeler while we were going back to the house for dinner. We didn't notice it was missing til we went to unload the 4 wheeler an hour later and the sun was setting. It landed in tall grass, we found it by chance just before the sun went down and it's currently thunderstorming. That would have been the death of that gun. Phew.
I wish I could shoot funs this 4th. In light of recent legislative events, that right has become even more important to me.
I wish I could shoot today :(
I have work, and I work nights.
Wish I could find property to shoot on. The ranges around here are all indoor, and are likely to be packed.

should be fine like camaroni said sometimes the 516 uppers are a little tight so you might have to do some fitting but other than that should be good to go.
My buddy's 1945 kar98k proved a more accurate rifle than anything else out there yesterday. Up against a 300 winmag something or other, a PSL, some lever action 45-70, a Chilean Mauser, and a mixed bag of other generic bolt actions, all scoped. The open-sight k98 got better groups at 100 yards than the rest.
Shot a Kimber 1911, Sig P229, and a Bushmaster AR-15 today at a range in Austin and god damn am I happy. I shot all my dream guns in an hour.
I've begun half-assedly looking for a .357, but I'm cheap as shit and don't want to pay more than $500 for one. In that range, pretty much my only options are Taurus (which I know to avoid), used Alfa Proj, or Astra. Anyone know anything about Alfa Proj or Astra?
Bringing my KSG and SCCY CPX2 out tonight to shoot. It's worse than gambling. Chances of malfunctions tonight exceed 50%
Why do you still have it? You've commented a lot about having problems with it, seems like a total pain in the ass.
Because it looks cool as fuck.
And it's hard as shit to sell a KelTec Jam-Master much less in NY where it's incredibly hard to sell a gun without getting jailed to begin with.
sell it out of state

Last year I was looking for a .357 in that budget but in real money. I found a good few older model second hand S&W's but I don't know how common they are up there.

Cheapest S&W .357 I've seen that wasn't illegal due to short barrel (fuck you Jean Chretien) was about $650. I've only seen one Astra for sale, and the guy wanted $400 for it and 2 speedloaders.

Look for a used Ruger Security Six or GP100. Only cheap foreign revolver I would trust at all is the Manurhin revolvers.

Manurhin aren't cheap, they're like $1500+ here.
I'd second a security 6 as well. I personally hate the GP100's grip but I've heard it's a nice gun. For you though it might boil down to picking two of these
Good
In budget
.357
You might want to ask yourself if you really want to spend the money on a .357 over a .38

We had a batch of used police/GIGN revolvers imported for roughly $300-$450 earlier this year, but they were all bought out as soon as the guns were listed online. Looked well used, but still functionally fine. Otherwise we don't get any Manurhin guns as far I can tell.

It's nice to have the option to use stronger ammo without having to buy another gun, especially when one gun can use both rounds.

Yes because it shoots both. The only issue is I'm pretty sure a used Security Six costs the same as a used S&W 27 ($650), are less common because 4" barrels are prohibited so it'd have to be a 6" model, and I'd rather get the S&W at that price.

How do you feel about the SCCY? thinking about selling mine and getting something more reliable.
Anyone have experience with the SIG 2022's?
I was thinking about either that or the 250s for my first full-size handgun, I want something I can put a light on and isn't in a sort of anemic .380 cartridge like my makarov. It seems like the best budget 9mm available, and I've always liked the fit and finish of sig's products.

Mine has been basically 100% reliable after the first 100 rounds. The guy I got it from had issues with it, only put like two mags through it. Turns out, the magazine springs were installed backwards (front/back, not top/bottom) and that caused a lot of issues.
Since then, perfect.

Look for an older Smith and Wesson Model 10HB or a good Model 19 or if you want Stainless, a Model 66. (stainless Model 19, basically.)

Have you considered an EAA Wittness? Walther PPX? S&W SD9VE? All of those, and the SP2022 are all great firearms.

Get a full size P320. They shoot great, very modular, and relatively inexpensive. A great Glock 17 alternative.

I've shot all of those except for the PPX, and while I can appreciate that they're good firearms, none of them seemed to fit right in my hand. So far, M&Ps and SIGs tend to feel the best so far, I dunno if it's because I have gorilla palms or something, but still.

I've been looking for one, but I can only find compacts locally. I'd order one online but after FFL fees and shipping it seems like I'm getting fucked, usually. I'd rather buy one from a store around here if I can, and there's a lot of 2022s and 250s locally.
