Jesus, imagine cleaning cosmoline off of 80 guns...

Storage unit. Take the safes and guns and store them in a small storage unit thats climate controlled. If you got the money, go ahead and pay for the whole 2 years
Storage unit sounds like a good plan, I'll see if I can find one close to where I live. Moving those safes isn't going to be fun though. I initially discounted storage units because I thought most storage places don't allow guns, but now that I'm looking I haven't found anything specifically forbidding them. Thanks!

I can't even bring myself to imagine. It took a full month and a half to catalog each and make sure they are in working order the first time. As for cleaning them within the two year span, I'm sure I'll visit/use them pretty frequently over that time, they'll just be a little farther away than my closet.

You're going to want to buy a lot of silicon dehumidifier bags and buckets. You might also consider using wood and gun wax on your blued guns since it holds up better in long term storage than regular oil. Also keeps a mean shine on 'em unlike cosmo. Anything to keep moisture off your guns is a worth while investment.

Of you specifically ask about long term firearm and ammunition storage, they may say no. But if its not in the contract/agreement, then they cant really do anything about it once your inside. I wouldnt tell them about it in the first place. Theyll never go in your unit unless you dont pay.

I would get cosmoline on your gats if its for longterm storage. Its a pain in the ass to apply and clean off but you will know nothing will rust or rot while youre gone.
I'm paranoid enough that if I mothballed all my guns long-term I'd want to inspect them at least monthly. I pretty much apply a fresh coat of oil to my antiques every week as it is, whether they get handled or not.
I would personally pull off any wood or plastic and just leave the whole action in an airtight container full of oil

50 gallon drum full of rem oil cant be too expensive
Any fluid, really. Rust only comes into play with moisture and oxygen :)
So there's a place selling a Ruger Security Six for only $350. Only problem is it's only got a 4" barrel, so it's prohibited. The place selling it offers rebarreling services, the only problem is with the cost of rebarreling it the whole thing would cost as much as one that's already legal here anyways.
Fuck Jean Chretien, Alan Rock, and the Liberal Party of Canada.
Any fluid, really. Rust only comes into play with moisture and oxygen :)
So then, not any fluid. Because a drum full of water will probably make your guns rust.
I still can't get my head around how fast Bob Munden was. I would honestly think it was all fake if there wasn't so much proof. Fucking talk about a lightning draw.

If you go that route don't tell a soul it's there and get the fuckers as heavy as possible. I just had a customer of mine get a 1000 lbs gunsafe stolen from his storage unit with 12 guns and all sorts of ammo and accessories with it. He had told 4 of the employees, so more than likely an inside job but still.
I found a pretty good place that I can fit them in, close enough to visit pretty often. I'll probably do checkups with them at least once or twice a month, and I'll find time to pull them all out and clean them a few times during their stay. There is no way I'm going to let them just rot away in there.

I also have a set of reloading equipment and about 1500 pounds of lead bars I could pad the safes with for extra weight. I'm very careful telling people in person that I even own guns at all. Now that I think about it, employees could probably see the safes when I am moving in and figure out what is inside. That is scary to think about.

Here is some of my lead. Turns out you can ship lead bars in flat rate boxes, which is probably why the mailman throws my other boxes at the house.

boat guys will often store motors under water. if there's no air under there then there's nothing to oxidize

I've shipped a flat rate box full of tungsten before. much heavier than lead. if it fits, it ships
For some reason I want to buy a pump shotgun.
Remind me not to talk guns with my coworkers since apparently my AK is a fully automatic weapon of destruction that is illegal.
Are Ruger revolvers worth owning, or should I just wait until I can financially justify a S&W?
Are Ruger revolvers worth owning, or should I just wait until I can financially justify a S&W?
Buy a Ruger if you want a revolver. Same quality, or better, without the overpriced bullshit you get with S&Ws
There's still something about a Smith Though. I've got this nice 686+ 3" that's been sitting in my display case for a while, its the best handling and pointing revolver I've ever held (for myself that is). The 3" GP100 just doesn't balance right for me.
Are Ruger revolvers worth owning, or should I just wait until I can financially justify a S&W?
Ruger has a pretty good DA pull and an OKish single action. I'd avoid the 6" one though, it's just too much barrel. The 4.2" will give you pretty good handling and balance.
If you want to save a little more, you can get one of their Single Action revolvers. It's a nice change of pace for a range gun and decent for hunting. Just don't expect it to be good for defense unlike the GP100.
Can't hunt with a handgun in Canada, and I just don't like the way single-actions look. I'm not looking for a cowboy gun.
The issue with the 4.2" ones is they almost all have to be new or way above my budget. Any old revolver that isn't 6" is going to be 4" and that's prohibited now, because most companies didn't start making the 4.2" until the early '00s.
Also what's up with Smith and these "locks" that supposedly break and jam the gun up?
It's partially that, but they did it to appease Clinton. It makes the gun look ugly with a new hole and is basically worthless. S&W tanked after that move and only recently been revitalized with their M&P series. Other wise they would still be languishing behind Ruger and other companies.
What's stupid is we require pistols be "rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device" for transportation, but the law literally defines a "secure locking device" as something that must be "applied to the firearm," meaning we can't use the built-in lock on guns as a "secure locking device," so the "Clinton hole" doesn't even help Canadians despite our laws requiring locks.
What's the easiest way to find a manufacture date on the colt 1991 series? Just bought a government stainless and was wondering the rough date it was made. Picture for prosperity

Now to sit here for the 30 day wait...
You guys know those SIG arm braces? I get the concept but like, let's say I got one and wanted to take that velcro off and just use the U shaped thing for my wrist/arm.
Is that okay? Or do I have to literally strap the thing onto my arm as opposed to just using the brace as a rest?
