7.62x39 isn't quiet by any means but it's not exactly eargesplitten loudenboomer. .223 is way louder
oh my god i just shot my npap for the first time and made the mistake of going into an indoor range do any of you guys put CLP into the magazine? is that ok to do?
No, clean out the cosmoline if it's a surplus mag then use a dry lubricant; anything else will collect dirt and cause it to bind.
I've been at an indoor range shooting my SVT-40. That was loud, but not as loud as the .50BMG being shot 2 bays over. It was a store gun, so they "rent" it just so people can say they shot a .50... At 25 yards... Also going to the range tomorrow, first time I'll have the opportunity to shoot my handguns since the spring.
I was kicked out of an indoor range in Michigan for firing an M44 indoors. Apparently, I was "distracting" people in the lanes next to me with my muzzle flash.
So, I am between an M&P Shield, and S&W SD9VE. I shall procure one of these.
Shield. Good gun with great ergos. The VE series of pistols is absolute shit. Just got my first gun ever!. Got myself a Hi-Point 4095TS. Came with a grip and two extra mags. Shoots .40 S&W's. The gun is pretty accurate, packs a good punch and overall was very fun to shoot! Great for plinking and target shooting. I plan to get a red dot sight for it and a muzzle compensator.
My local shop only allows rifles on Thursday and Friday. Only so people that don't appreciate that sort of thing can plan ahead. That said, last time I went there I startled the everloving shit out of the guy in the lane next to me. Guy was runnin either a 9 or a 22 pistol, just plinkin away. Suddenly, Bam, I start goin to town with my AR. He was cool with it and all, but I made a mental note to be sure the neighbors are aware. It was even better when another guy with an AR showed up about 10 minutes after that. Another time, a guy commented that I was really "bringing the bass" to the range

Just know that there are a large number of alternatives with better selling points and fewer downsides.
Care to show me them? I mean, any that are not 22lr.
Pistol or Rifle caliber?
Pistol or Rifle caliber?
Either works. Mind you, we're talking about the same price range as the Hi-Point aswell. I couldn't afford a keltec or a beretta
Either works. Mind you, we're talking about the same price range as the Hi-Point aswell. I couldn't afford a keltec or a beretta
Slight problem there. One of the selling points of hi points are how inexpensive there are. I'll see what I can do though. Bear in mind, I'm not much of a gun aficionado outside of military weapons. If you want me to describe the difference between a Bushmaster or a Ruger AR, or anything like that, you're out of luck. I am, however, aware of hi-point's reputation. Hi-point's aren't bad, strictly speaking. They're commonly viewed as being undesirable for a number of reasons, though. They're generally regarded as an inexpensive stop-gap, for when one cannot afford a better weapon. honestly hi point carbines are really good guns. the pistols are junky but the carbines are good. [editline]15th November 2015[/editline] only problem I have with them is the magazine capacity.

[editline]15th November 2015[/editline] only problem I have with them is the magazine capacity.
Yeah, but they're an absolute pain in the ass to field strip. In my opinion, no weapon should ever be difficult to field strip and clean. Ever. It's an absolute deal-breaker for me.
they're not good to field strip but they're so overgassed that all you need to do is stick some grease in there to keep the wear down and they'll run for more rounds than most ever put through them before they need to be cleaned.
they're not good to field strip but they're so overgassed that all you need to do is stick some grease in there to keep the wear down and they'll run for more rounds than most ever put through them before they need to be cleaned.
It's not just the cleaning though. If there's a malfunction, I want to be able to break the weapon down as quickly as possible. I also detest the idea of having to use tools to do it. That's just absurd.
if there's a malfunction bad enough to require a field strip you're probably dead anyway
Took my friend shooting for the first time, he actually did pretty good at 30-50m, he fired 100 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .45, he ended up putting a down payment on the Steyr M9-A1, was his favorite gun out of the ones he fired. He fired the SIG P226 (Also a favorite, but more expensive), Glock 17, Ruger LCP, Glock 21, RIA 1911, and Springfield XDM (and of course the Steyr).
I usually at least warn the people in adjacent lanes if I'm about to fire my AK or SKS.
I was the first one in there till the range filled up.
if there's a malfunction bad enough to require a field strip you're probably dead anyway
That's why you always have a buddy covering you.
That's why you always have a buddy covering you.
that's not always possible if you're not in a combat zone
That's why you always have a buddy covering you.

that's not always possible if you're not in a combat zone
are we seriously contemplating the efficacy of a hi-point carbine in an actual combat situation man Im sorry but if you get caught in any kind of "combat zone" with a hi-point, I think you have bigger problems :v:

it is specifically a civilian range toy (or very light duty police carbine), not a military weapon that is intended to be subjected to long-term field use. They expect you to be cleaning this thing on your bench at home, not rolling out your cleaning mat and cleaning it out at your FOB in a middle eastern village. Ease of field-stripping isnt generally a concern with civi guns. [editline]15th November 2015[/editline]
better than unarmed
I'm just saying it's kind of a wasted thought exercise because you arent gonna be looking over at your battle buddy and yelling "COVER ME" while you field strip your fucking hi-point carbine to clear a jam while the communists shoot at you
Just did the weirdest trade I've ever done. Same friend that I took to the range, wanted the 50 extra rounds of JHP and Hydra shok I had in 9mm, but he didn't have cash on hand since he put most of his paycheck down on the Steyr, but he's also the assistant store manager at a gas station, so instead of cash, he gave me $50 worth of redbull, all 20oz cans. So now I'm sitting on 200oz of redbull.
are you saying red bull is $5 a can what the fuck why do people buy that
are you saying red bull is $5 a can what the fuck why do people buy that
I normally don't, I find it to be very over-priced. I can get a 16oz can of rockstar for $1.25, so why pay $3~ for a 16oz redbull?
are we seriously contemplating the efficacy of a hi-point carbine in an actual combat situation man Im sorry but if you get caught in any kind of "combat zone" with a hi-point, I think you have bigger problems :v:
Exactly why I will never use a hi-point carbine. If I can't break it down, by hand, in the time it takes to take a dump, it's a no-go.
better than unarmed
So is a muzzle-loading flint-lock. Doesn't mean I'll be in a rush to grab one of those without Conner Kenway having my ass. [editline]15th November 2015[/editline]
I normally don't, I find it to be very over-priced. But I'm a cheap ass who doesn't like a can of 5.56 for $160.
This is why I never spend less than $2000 on a rifle
