My friend brought over this little bargain basement .22 single shot bolt action he bought on a trip. Revelation model 100 or something. Turns out to be a rebranded mossberg 321. Anyways, the safety is broke so its pretty much flapping in the breeze. I took the stock off and it looks like its missing an itty bitty torsion spring and something to make the lever click in place. I wrapped a rubber band around the action and put it back together as a temporary fix so the safety at least works as a safety. You just have to shoot it while holding the safety forward. I may figure out something slightly more permanent than a rubber band and install a cupboard hinge to flip up and block the safety forward to disengage it. Its already a bodge, might as well go full bubba. [editline]29th December 2015[/editline] might JB weld on a dovetail
Facepunch I have a problem. I took my new (4 month gunsafe squatter) Reminton 700 AAC SD .308 to a shooting course today. It was a 1000m shooting course to help you get to 1000m. They supplied a good scope (Kahles 6-25x56 something) and mount, good bi-pod, a personal instructor, BC calculator, the range (hard to find a good 1000m range in Australia), food, and stuff like that. Only problem was my rifle could hold a grouping at 100m. Now it's the first time it has been fired so that could be the first problem (Although the instructor doesn't believe that it is). The groups it was shooting were all vertically fine, they were just swinging left and right of where we could best zero it to by up to 1 1/2 inches. Shooting 5 round sets it would make either 2-3 different groups or walk the round to the left or right (over the zero spot). I only had 168gr American Eagle OTM rounds, I should have brought up a selection I know, so that could be problem number two, but I don't think it would string the rounds like that if it was. (this will be my first fix, I'm going to go buy 2-3 more different loads, and try some military 7.62 SLR rounds I have). I can eliminate human error. I shot, the instructor shot, and another guy on the course shot (he had a really nice 338Lap Barrett M98B that shot like a dream, I hit the 800m and 1000m gong every time with it) and the problem persisted. The third problem could be the stock and scope rail; both are by MDT. I have the HS3 chassis (I think probably not the cause as the scope is always on point) and the Long Rail (http://mdttac.ca/long-action-top-rail-system.html). The course instructor thought this was the problem from the get go, but reviews I have seen say it is fine out to 1000m. It sits flush with the receiver and doesn't touch the barrel. Both were torque wrenched to their ratings (20 inch/lbs). Other factors of the day were the heat as it was 34C/93.2F the entire day (never shot more than 5-7 rounds before a 5-10 minute cool down of the rifle), there was only a 5mph slight cross wind at the worst of times (until a small twister blew away our sunshade at the end of the day), I patched the barrel with hoppes every 10-20 rounds and patched till clean (shot better a little dirty we found, although could have just been coincidence), can't thing of anything else. Any ideas Facepunch?
Most people here use checks for large purchases, or for private sale type stuff over the web for people who don't use paypal. How do your grandparents send you money for your birthday without checks?

It's honestly fucking ridiculous that we even have physical money anymore at all.
So... guys.... I have $200 in gift cards to use from Christmas.... Should I? I'm super pissed. All of the barreled upper and parts kits on Palmetto State Armory's website went out of stock as soon as I got back into town. Of course it's my luck that I finally get enough money over Christmas, then I can't spend it because everything AR-15 related is getting bought up en masse because of the next Assault Weapons Ban. Fucking panic-buyers.
Shitty updated photo of my Scorpion. Took the red dot off my AK and put it on there, and got some ladder covers to throw on the front rails so I don't cut my fingers.
Someone just told me there is a gun shop like ten minutes from my house. I'm going tomorrow and I'm so excited. We don't really have any gun stores locally. Just the big box ones like Gander Mountain and Dicks which are kinda shitty. There is one in the ghetto I won't go too for obvious reasons and lack of parking and one in the sticks that apparently treats their customers like ass. So I was without options. I went to Gander Mountain who is a Dealer in Mossberg and asked if they could order me a SA-20 (They sell them just not the one with the railed receiver) and basically if it's not on their website they cannot get it for me. Which is kind of annoying, because even the ones they do carry are $200 more than any other place and they charge $75 to use them as an FFL.
You know why they call it Gander Mountain, right? You go there and take a gander at what you're interested in, then you order it somewhere else. Sorry to hear you have few other options, though :(
Since I called the cops on my drug dealing neighbors tensions have been really high in the hood. I finally have the money to and I've realized that I can't fight or defend myself for shit, so I should probably have something more than just a 22LR for home defense and a multitool on me when I go out. I don't yet know what cartridge or handgun I would be comfortable with, but I do at least know I want JHP rounds for self defense. Going to sign up for a CCW class and do some practice at local ranges. Was lookin at budsgunshop, but I'd rather try different handguns in person to better get a feel for what works for me. Any suggestions? There are like 5 ranges in a 50mi radius and a Gander Mountain nearby.

Afterwards, go to a gun store and handle some of their recommendations. For self defense (in handguns) I recommend a .40 S&W or a .357 SiG if the ammo is popular in your area. Both are certified man stoppers but are extremely snappy rounds. If you want something more tame, you can use a 9mm. Modern 9mm ammo is really fucking good at dropping people, in some cases as reliable as a .40S&W or a .45 ACP. Whats your budget? I can throw some actual recommendations out as far as firearms go.

It'll give you some idea of what to expect from and what it takes to survive in a violent scenario.

It's a little graphic so NSFW warning.
The upper limit of my budget is about $750.
Damn, you can get some really nice handguns with that budget. Depending on how big your hands are, a full size or sub compact glock are good options, A HKUSP in .40 or 9mm (I have one in .40 and its saved my life more than once), HK VP9, CZ-75's, Sig Saur SP2022's, Sig Saur P250/P320, and Kahr's.

Sorry to hear you have few other options, though :(
They don't even have a good selection. I'm not exaggerating they have literally 15 Glock 27's and they're all used and in really, really nasty condition. Gen 3's and they want $550-$600 for them. But they don't have a single Glock 26 in stock which is what I actually wanted to look at. I went to the gun shop today, the one I just found out about. It's literally the corner of a automotive repair garage. It messy, pretty dirty and I honestly drove past it three times because the only indication there is a gun store inside the garage is a neon sign that says "GUNS" in the window hiding behind a van they had parked out front. But aside from the appearance I loved it. The guy was really great, very friendly. He looked into ordering me my Mossberg and aside from that he had a G26 for a decent price and on hand. I bought some .30 Carbine during the trip because I wasn't ready to buy a new gun. I'll be going there from now on when I need guns, ammo or anything else like that. Gander is good for some stuff, but I don't know if I'll ever buy a gun there again. I just can't afford too. [editline]30th December 2015[/editline] Also while I was there he showed me a Sccy CPX-2 and the thing was dirt cheap. I've never heard of them before. Are they shitty guns or something? I thought it was interesting and for the price I may pick one up and hide it in a drawer in my Bathroom or something. I keep adding guns to my list. I don't have the money for this hobby: * Mossberg SA-20 * Glock 26 * S&W 327 * Sccy CPX-2 (Barely more expensive than Hi-Point and better looking)

What do you think'll happen if someone breaks in and finds that thing? It'll end up on the black market, and become part of the reason people out there are advocating for stricter gun control.
What happened?
A rude offtopic debate broke out and resulted in a re-permaban and multi post delete, basically. I'm looking around for CCW classes, the only one I've found was a two day window next April.
where do you live? Most places that offer CCW classes offer them weekly or at the very least monthly.
Northern Virginia. Between soccer mom suburbia and bum fuck nowhere. I might have to look further south, there isn't any advertising or anything about firearms near here.
