Could someone please explain like I'm five on how vertical foregrips are supposedly bad for shooting?
It's not, people just like the slanted magpul foregrip because you can do the whole c clamp deal with it and it's a little bit more comfortable and natural to hold.
Could someone please explain like I'm five on how vertical foregrips are supposedly bad for shooting?
Only real reason is that since you don't have a grip on the gun's forearm, it's more wobbly and supposedly someone can push you off target easier. Personally, I think that if they're close enough to push/pull your gun from you, you already fucked up.

They aren't "bad" per se, but if you look at the current popular setup, most people seem to be using a truncated vert grip, small AFG or a handstop or two.
Personally, I prefer the AFG, as I can grip a larger area under the rifle and do it in a more natural fashion as well as having more purchase on the forend than just a slick forend.
It is also more comfortable to maneuver the rifle and walk with without twisting your wrist.

I like my full size vertical grip for shooting and maneuvering the rifle but it's not real comfortable in a relaxed ready position. I never could get used to those slanted foregrips and I feel like they give me a worse grip on the gun.
I've yet to put any front grips on my rifle, and honestly, I like my gun the way it is. I keep a rail cover on my top rail simply because I do hold it Costa style a lot of times when I'm shooting at closer targets, but I hold the magwell a good 65% of the time because it's got a lovely lip where the barrel nut sits that my finger just rests on perfectly.
I've got a stubby little mvg on mine that I use with a thumb break grip just because there's no way to put an afg on a moe forend without a stupid clunky rail adapter

the vert grip gives you more options than an afg though which is nice

I also often use it as a monopod

How does the vert grip give you more options? You mean more options to mount more stuff?
Use the magazine as a monopod instead?
Just buy a short VFG and use it as a handstop if you want one.

an afg pretty much restricts you to a thumb break grip (or thumb over if you have gigantic hands), while with a good vert like an mvg (or rvg) you can do thumb break or thumb over or old school tacticool vert grip or you can use it as a hand stop or you can ignore it completely because it takes up almost no space on your forend
Is it bad that I use my Tokarev exclusively as a bottle opener now?

That was what I did with the AK. Also left it far enough back that I could Costa grip if I wanted to (when using the red dot)

Living in NY sucks. I don't have a decent home defense gun. I have a M500 which is cool and all but way too long, way too heavy and I don't really want to go shooting 00 buck through walls.
I got a KSG because it was actually small, light and short enough for me to comfortably wield in a house but I ran into the issue of it being ridiculously unreliable.
I was looking as a Mossberg 930 or a SA-20 but I run into that same issue of it being way too fucking long to use indoors. I can't shorten the barrel without an NFA and NY doesn't issue them so they have to be retardedly unwieldy.
Ideally I'd use an AR-15 for this application but NY has made that illegal too by adding dumb ass requirements that make them feel terrible and be uncomfortable as shit. In addition to having to pin the mags and shit.
I think at this point the only and best thing I can do is get a light for my Glock 19 and just use that. Nothing else makes any sense.

Secede from NYC.

Build a harpoon gun
Mount the fucker on your wall when its over
Maybe a bullpup stock kit for a moss500 or rem870?

I just wonder what the cops would say if you ever used it in a self defense situation...

holy shit I didn't know these were a thing.

They look pretty sweet. If I needed a home defense shotgun I'd consider it, but I like my 870 as a big ass bird gun for now.
My dad wants to buy guns before "Obama takes them away." He only wants to stock one caliber of ammunition, and my mom isn't strong enough to fire anything magnum, so probably 9mm. A Springfield XDM (Probably 4.5") would be the pistol, but I don't know much about rifles. Can anyone recommend a good 9mm rifle?

Springfield XDM is gross, how about going with a Czech lineup? CZ P07 and CZ Skorpion Evo rifle?

Uzis are also great 9mm rifles.

Hi-Point Carbine.
I figure if they ever go confiscating guns I'll just buy a sword for home defense.
On another topic though. I couldn't bring myself to sell my KSG. I got a ton of offers but I kept it as a range toy. I mean, just look at the thing. It's cool.

I've got buckshot on the right and two slugs on the left. I run both tubes with buck and if I want a slug (although I doubt I'd ever need one) I can put the gun into neutral and pop one into the chamber. I have them angled with the brass down because all the loading takes place under the gun unlike a regular shotgun.
I took it out and shot maybe less than 50 shells through it and didn't really have a malfunction. Maybe I finally worked them out. I dunno. But I kept it.

I've done that before, bought a gun, fixed it up, made it mine, and I don't think I'd ever trade them.
Speaking of Kel Tec, A Kel Tec Sub 2000 and a G19

What's wrong with the XDM? I shot it and it felt pretty great.
What's wrong with the XDM? I shot it and it felt pretty great.
The stupid grip safety, every time; I'd throw an XDM and S&W M&P (magazine disconnect safety) in the trash every time because of their stupid "safety" features.
I didn't think it was possible to be uglier than a Glock, but the XDM does it; could you possibly plaster more advertising on a gun?

I honestly would buy a Hipoint before I bought a M&P or an XD, or really any American handgun for that matter.
Also I wouldn't buy a hipoint carbine unless you don't mind proprietary magaziens with low capacity.

The XD series is bashed alot by people with gorilla hands or people who don't like non-USA/Germanic origin pistols. Really, it's one of the best out of the box pistols with great trigger pull weights and a grip a normal person can use.
