There's a guy near me selling a Neos 22 for $175 and I'd really tempted to pick it up just for fun.
I owned one once, sold for a Ruger MK III. I regret it sort of. It is probably the easiest 22 pistol to clean on the market. Barrel comes off without any tools and with the sights/optic still on barrel, zero is never lost. Just be sure to remove the action from the frame every 500 rounds for a deep cleaning. It's held in by a screw in the grip. Mags are far easier to load than a Ruger thanks to a big metal knob on the side of the mag, but the springs wear out faster than a Ruger. Overall, if you only plink from time to time it's a great pistol.
The mag release is a YMMV. The mag release is a button above the trigger guard that you press with your trigger finger if you are right handed. You get used to it.
The biggest negatives are the safety and weak mag springs. If you have meaty hands, it's gonna be a it uncomfortable if held for extended periods of time.

I'm pretty neurotic for cleaning. Full disassembly clean after every trip to the range. Just gotta decide if it's worth the money for this or some of my other projects.

Since it's almost half the price of most Rugers, I'd say get it. If you don't like it, you flip it for $200.
It depends on what you're going to be doing with it. If it's a range toy that's gonna get taken out of the case once every 3-6 months and used to kill paper, by all means, get the S&W. If you think you might end up getting dust/sand/dirt on it or might end up putting more than 100 rounds through it over the course of a range day, get the Ruger.
I'd go with the Ruger, but that's my personal choice. Pick the one that's right for you.
People suggest I build my own but for my first AR I'd rather buy the gun itself and get used to the platform and if I really like it then I'll think about tinkering around and buying the uppers, lowers, bolt carriers myself but I'm too new into the AR world to do that.
I'm think I'm going to go with the Ruger, I shoot about 3-4 times a month depending on money and other things but when I go I usually will throw 150-200ish rounds downrange at a time so I think I'll start my AR journey with the Ruger.
if you haven't already, don't buy an m&p 15. the fit between the upper and lower is shit

go to your LGS and buy an assembled aero precision lower for like $200
http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-mid-length-dissipator-without-bcg-or-charging-handle.html - $350
http://palmettostatearmory.com/palmetto-state-armory-5-56-premium-full-auto-bolt-carrier-group-8779.html $100
http://palmettostatearmory.com/palmetto-state-amory-charging-handle-with-tactical-release-latch.html $20
$670 for something way better than an m&p. buying it like this is just buying it field stripped, so if you're worried about assembling it then you shouldn't buy an ar15

plus the cost of buis or optics but you'd have to buy those anyway with an m&p
PSA had 16 inch M4 clone barreled uppers JUST like that (minus the BCG) for ~$150 over the holidays. I don't know if they still have them or not.
Oh god if there's any magazines that can look like the original

They are making mags that look original but fit the other calibers.

Keep in mind, PSA has weird standards. I bought a PSA upper, and a Stag lower, both being Milspec, but the PSA pins wouldn't go into the stag lower. I had to use different pins, which was a real fucking pain in the ass.

Those weapons are by far documented to be the most unreliable pieces of shit. Don't waste your money.

I agree. PSA makes awesome stuff. Minus my charging handle and bolt carrier (DPMS), everything on my AR is PSA. No issues whatsoever.
So I called my local gun store and they are sold out of the ruger AR 556 and the M&P 15 sport and basically all the ones in that price range so Im left with the next step up so which brand is better to see about Armalite or Windham Weaponry? They also had a used Bushmaster for about 800ish?

Armalite is pretty good, but you are now pushing your budget. Windham is good Because it's basically Bushmaster with a different name. Now what I mean by it's a "Bushmaster" is that the former owner of bushmaster and some of his former employees created Windham after Bushmaster got bought out and turned into a crappy AR manufacturer. It's made by the people who cared about AR15s, so it's Old Bushmaster level of quality not the current one.

my barrel is FN, bolt is a BCM in an AR-Stoner carrier, lower is aero-precision, and trigger is geissele. everything else besides furniture and rear sight is PSA and it all works great.

here
I have an FN barrel too. It's pretty awesome.
My M&P15 is fine, pretty well put together. I've had it for a few years though so something may have changed.
So many years ago, before I was born, my grandfather passed away and left my dad with a Dan Wesson Model 15-2V Pistol Pack. Then, when I was born, my father gave it to his friend to hold onto. Yesterday, I got it as a gift. And boy, does this thing feel amazing.

It has 2.5", 4", 6", and 8" barrels that are super easy to change out plus a variety of red, white, and yellow front sight blades that can be swapped out and two different grips. The case itself is also really cool. All the original receipts are with it. My grandpa bought it in 1981 for $400 from the local hardware store. This is a piece that I can't ever see myself parting with.
Oh, don't worry. I'm gonna shoot this thing as much as I can. Right now all I have for it though are 12 .38 Special +P hollowpoints that are God knows how old.
I'd have that 8 incher on there all the time. Love long barreled revolvers.
Looking at the brochure that came with it, they made barrels all the way up to 15". I can't imagine how unwieldy a handgun that long would be.

Thats why at that length you get a carbine handle and say "fuckit"

That is amazing.
Well, just completed my first day of training with brinks.
Mostly just videos, but I did get a tour the building I'm training at with a guy that sounds dead up like Mark Wahlberg, so that was fun.
I got to hold $1.6 million worth of FDA stamped drug money, got to see the different trucks, got to go into the telling room where I noticed three racks of remington 870's with fuggly AR-15 style folding stocks and only 4 round magazines, but the racks had about 12-16 shotguns each, so GG to who ever tries.
Other than that, nothing really amazing, I get level IIIA kevlar with a carrier that accepts plates, get it for $300 which will be paid for in $10 increments per pay period and then I get to keep it, so that's cool.
We do carry loaded magazines, forgot who asked, but yes, we do.
They also aren't very good with computers... like, jesus they're just not computer literate.
I found out FN is releasing a civilian M249 and I was like "Fuck I need that" but than I realized I can't have it because aside it being like 7k it's also illegal to own a weapon capable of feeding from a belt in NY.

You can probably convert it to feed from magazines only.
A semi auto beltfed is the epitome of pointless, anyway.
A semi auto beltfed is the epitome of pointless, anyway.
It's fun though. I mean, aside from just fun or maybe an odd-ball competition, what practical purpose would a semi-auto belt fed have anyways? Saying it's pointless is like saying a ferrari is pointless because you can't efficiently commute to your office job with it. And considering the M249 so hilariously overpriced, thats not a bad comparison.
A semi auto beltfed is the epitome of pointless, anyway.
Semi-auto beltfeds fit a nice legal grey area in Canada because any based on cloth-belts from before 1946 have no mag restrictions, and nobody can decide if disintegrating-chain belts constitute one long mag or a series of interconnected 3-round mags, so there's no restrictions on them either.
A semi auto beltfed is the epitome of pointless, anyway.
I have a lot of pointless guns. Not everyone's waiting for the end of the world. :v: I'd love a semi MG42/M53 or M60.
I wanted to put like rails on it and a different stock and a railed top cover with an Elcan and make it look like this:

I would love to own an Elcan scope like that, but the only cheap ones I can find are ones that "fell off the supply truck" on ebay.
I've come to the realization that if I want to go to Japan this year I shouldn't buy any guns until I get back. I can just hope that none get banned by September, because the second a writ drops for prohibition I'm going to the gun shop to get something before it passes parliament, and that'd throw my vacation plans out the window.
I also like having a cushion of cash that could potentially pay out my entire motorcycle insurance cost if I need to, just so I won't have to worry about the automatic payments being deducted, and at the moment I'm $200 short of that cushion, and until I actually sell my bike I don't want to get rid of that cushion.

I have one but it's a replica. It's somewhere around here.
