Go ahead and try to break it.
I have two Mosins but I have a hard time seeing how they're any more durable than a Mauser, Enfield, or any of the other mass-produced bolt-action rifles. They're all pretty simple. The appeal of Mosins to new shooters is that they're cheap, fire cheap ammo, have a lot of visceral appeal with the big boom and recoil, and also happen to have some military history. None of these are good shooting characteristics for new shooters, and now that the prices are going up I have a hard time recommending a Mosin. Not to say I agree with the 'just get a Mauser/Enfield' people because a good Mosin is still cheaper than a good Mauser and the difference in ammo price is significant, but they're not a must-have anymore and certainly not a good choice for a new shooter.

Now that mosins are going up to $200-$250, I would have a real hard time reccomending them to a beginner. Back when they were around $100, they were a good option to get in to big boy rifles without spending more than your average verizon wireless bill.

Mosin Nagants are not beginner rifles. If you can't afford a $150 22lr rifle, then you probably shouldn't be getting into guns as a hobby until you have more income.
You dont have to clean them each time if you dont shoot 50 year old corrosive cheap shit ammo. I believe the appeal of the mosin to new shooters can be summed up in 7 words. Go ahead and try to break it.
A mosin was one of the first rifles I bought and I avoided the whole shitting your pants scared of corrosive ammo damage thing by just shooting cheap steel cased stuff. I think it ended up being around 25-30 cents a round which ain't bad at all for a bolt action rifle, can take some time to burn through ammo.
A mosin was my first big caliber rifle. The 91/30 doesn't kick bad at all, and you just clean it after shooting. I recommend it for anyone wanting a cheap bigger caliber rifle who may not want a 30-06.

The way I see it, you can get a good Mosin for $200-250. You can get a good Yugo Mauser for $300-400. Not too big of a difference, but then when you look at ammo, 7.62x54r is still way cheaper than 8mm, let alone .303 or 30-06, so it makes the Mosin more economical to buy and shoot, and either way you're getting a decent centerfire bolt-action. It's not a good beginner's rifle because it will teach new shooters to flinch, guaranteed, but it's still an affordable way for a recreational shooter to enjoy a full-sized rifle cartridge.
Got me a new gun. First time shooting a pistol so please don't look too closely at the grouping. All shot at 7 yards. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/Guns/IMAG1264.jpg[/t] I'm also guessing having a failure to extract on the 3rd round is acceptable but no more in 200rnds. If it keeps running into problems have them look at it.
So while trying to unweld my barrelnut from my upper (aka melt the loctite) I warped my upper again. But this time the bolt goes full forward, and I get full chamber seal. I'm pretty sure I'm not comfortable with how badly warped my upper is, and I don't think I'll ever use it for shooting again, but it's kinda cool how I made it non-functional, then refunctioned it (maybibaly). Also barrelnut couldn't be removed, PSA legit welded it. I'm gonna dremel it from the receiver tomorrow. Got an Aero Precision upper coming later this week. Will post pics of gun when I unfuck it.
I just filed my taxes. I'm getting a good return this year. Today is my birthday and my Sister gave me $200 toward a Glock 26 and I should be getting another $200 or so from my Dad and that sort of thing. So I'll be picking one of those up. I also have about $100 in Gander Mountain Funbux and $70 in Discover Funbux so I'm going to throw in like $100 of my own money into that and buy a Sccy CPX-2 And I still have my tax return money left untouched after that, so assuming I get some more hours at work in the coming weeks I plan to get a Bullpup unlimited kit or at Mossberg SA-20

I want some just so I don't have to load my own brass shells because that's what my shotgun likes. But I bet they'll be well over a dollar a round.
it'll probably just go the way of RIP rounds honestly
I want some just so I don't have to load my own brass shells because that's what my shotgun likes. But I bet they'll be well over a dollar a round.
Probably so, but in home defense settings, you only gotta him them once with that.

I've strongly considered getting both at different points in time, but I could never decide.
Is there a difference in quality or accuracy between a good Mosin and a good Yugo Mauser? I've strongly considered getting both at different points in time, but I could never decide.
k98 patter rifles are generally more accurate than a mosin. The quality depends on the year of manufacture, but generally k98 rifles are better made than Mosins. Wartime mosins sometimes have shitty machining or really shoddily made parts.
Why a 20 gauge shotgun, out of curiosity?
Thought about a Mossberg 930 but as much as I don't mind a 12GA I shoot 20GA better and if it's a semi-automatic shotgun than I'm probably better off with a 20GA for that as far as my own comfort is concerned. I'm buying it for myself, but I'm basically giving it to my Mom to keep in her room. She can't do 12GA but she can do a 20GA for sure. She also has trouble finding the slide locks on shotguns so it's easier to just keep the tube loaded and have her charge it and than she's ready to go if she needed to use it. And I'm going to buy a bunch of 930 accessories and modify them to fit so it'll look tacticool so it should be fun to shoot in general.
Maybe its just the angle, but it looks like your optic is mounted wayyyy too far back
Its really far back, but the eye relief is really close to the optic itself. I almost have to be pressing my eye against the glass to get the full picture.
is that the shitty optic thats meant for a toy gun you bought? or was that someone else?

Wow, 5x magnification. I'd rather have a 4x or a reddot, but that's just me.
It's 3x, their 3x version isn't on their site anymore for some reason. Personally I'd prefer 4x but 3x works great as well.
