That FAL is beautiful. That's my dream gun right there.
Thanks! It was a lot of work and it cost a decent amount of money but it's for sure worth it.
Very sturdy and accurate rifle too. My only qualm is the 30rd magazines they make for it tend to not work so well. Last time I tried them, they were a little tight empty, and loaded they wouldn't go in enough to lock in. Kind of weird. Ended up just returning them for 20's.

20 rounders are the only kind of magazine you really need for 7.62 NATO anyway.

Well that and 5 rounders for hunting
God damn that FAL is gorgeous. I'm a sucker for wood grain

Thanks. It's my favorite (but don't tell my over/under I said that)

Picked it up a few days ago with my tax return. CZ Wingshooter Elite, 12 gauge, 28" barrels. Hand engraved, selective auto ejectors, 3" tubes.
Just my luck, the second AK I bought has extractor problems. Why do I always get lemons? Both the AKs I have bought have had major problems.

Have you tried using non-steel cased ammo?
Those old 1911s' barrel bushings were pretty sloppy up until the 70's. Even Colt used a different design on their 1911s till machining became tight enough to do on a mass scale for a good price. Older Series 70's Colt 1911 have the Collet bushing over the standard bushing. The collet style uses 4 "fingers" to apply tension to the barrel and keep it centered. It was prone to breaking the fingers from heavy use so Colt has switched back to the old style bushing thanks to CNC machines. I'd hold onto all the old parts if you start replacing pieces on it. Keeps what ever value it has.
I'm not planning on replacing any parts in it, aside from the recoil spring in it. Don't shoot it often enough to warrant, and I don't shoot it with the expectation it will be amazingly accurate. I just shot it at 100 yards because I didn't want to call cold just to set up a box at a few yards away for no reason. Our range has a lot of large boulders on its bank where they stopped flattening it which serves as a backstop I use a lot with hollowpoints and slower rounds, so I was plinking against them just to see how accurate I could be.
I was fairly impressed I got to the point with my buddy's Glock that I knew to hold about 3 inches left and an inch high to get a reasonable group on the rock that was about 6 feet by 2-ish while shooting Tul 9mm.
Have you tried using non-steel cased ammo?
I used Yugo M67(Brass Cased) and Romanian Surplus as well as golden tiger.
What happens is a spent case will either get stuck in the chamber, and I have to get a ramrod to get it out, or a live round will get in the chamber and the spent round will stovepipe and get stuck. First time firing the gun too.
Looked at the extractor? Any gunk behind it? Check if it moves too much or too little
[editline]23rd February 2016[/editline]
what happens if you try cycling rounds by hand?
No gunk, it is BRAND new, after a few rounds however, that silver polish on the piston part of the bolt carrier quickly turned grey/black.
Not comfortable cycling rounds by hand at my house, but when I cycle the gun with no rounds it works great, no stoppage or anything.

What brand/model is it again?
My Waffen Werks AK-74 did that, too. I sent it back and they fixed it for me. They said it was the mag catch, but that looks overgassed to me, based on the grime on the op rod.
What brand/model is it again?
Atlantic Firearms Polish VAF-47 Underfolder.
Thinking it might be overgas because the nickel bolt blackened in under 7 rounds
Definitely overgas. There's no way in hell the op rod would be THAT caked in carbon after 7 rounds.
That's like, 100+ rounds of dirty old surplus ammo levels of grime.
Any suggestions for a reasonably priced single stack 9mm compact (not sub-compact). Doesn't really have to be 9mm, I'm just looking for as slim of a compact as I can without it being a dinky little sub.

Personally I love my Beretta Nano and my Walther PPS and CCP. Try those.

Call me a dirty redneck with no taste in modern guns, but i like carrying my p64. 230$.
Incoming cyke lon bee in 3, 2, 1...
Personally I love my Beretta Nano and my Walther PPS and CCP. Try those.
The nano is definitely a subcompact though. I was looking at the PPS, but still a bit short.
[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline]
I know it's a weird request of a gun. I saw my uncle with one that was silver and rather curvy for a modern gun, I thought it was a sig but I cannot find it. Don't know for the life of me what it was.
[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline]
Looked like a P230 but a swear to god it had a longer barrel/slide.

The Nano and the PPS are technically "micro compacts" but they're really not that small.
With the extended magazines with the pinkie grips, they're both actually fair sized guns. Easy to conceal but also plenty of room for your hands. Extremely fun to shoot, too.

Sig P225
Sig P225
That looks perfect actually. Thanks! Now time to factor it into my budget list.
[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline]
Bit pricey but it'll go on the list nonetheless. Might just have to bump one of the servers further down.

If you want something cheaper, try the Ruger SR9C. It's double stack, but it's a nice compact and pretty easy to conceal. Also reliable.

He doesn't want a sub compact though.

The SR9C isn't a subcompact though. I have been looking at it as a cheaper option.
He doesn't want a sub compact though.
It's not a sub compact. It's a compact. Used to sell a lot of them when I worked at Gander Mountain. Pretty popular.
12 rounds in the extended magazine, 10 in the flush mag. Gun comes with 1 extended and 2 flush.
The full size version, the SR9, holds 15.

Do you have a range/store in the area that lets you rent guns?
I'd suggest doing that before buying anything if you can.
That being said, if you're already looking at the SR9C as an option and don't want to spend the extra money on the Sig, go for it. I've shot them. They're very comfortable.

hmm guess it is a compact, but the size is almost a middle ground between the two.
hmm guess it is a compact, but the size is almost a middle ground between the two.
Only because the SR9 is a fairly small full sized handgun to begin with, which is actually pretty nice. Gives it a really good hand feel.

It kinda throws you off because the SR9C is only a little bit bigger than a G26.
The SR9C fits that middle ground between a glock 19 size firearm and a glock 26, much like the FNS Compact. I personally feel it's an awkward size, but for whatever reason I don't feel like the FNS compact does.
