Well, Mr. Reeves just earned himself a new fan! That was some impressively fast shooting, I wonder what his accuracy is like? Having actual skills instead of faking it with quick editing also makes for convincing action sequences.
I never thought I'd want to shoot guns with Keanu.
Nope I always thought that. Ever since constantine and matrix 1.

I wish the CMP would provide updates. Tuesday marks a month since I sent them all the paperwork. I know it takes 4-6 weeks, but I just get anxious. It's a lot of money to send off and not know what happened, ya know?
My local Sheriff's Department changed the rules for pistol permit to make it slightly less retarded.
It used to be that you had to buy a handgun (without being able to touch one legally) and pay for it, get a receipt and put it on your permit. The issue with this is that most if not all gun shops required you to pay the full amount. So if you wanted your first gun to be a sweet 1911 or something you had to pay $700 up front or something. They didn't offer layaway or anything like that because the pistol permit process could take six months to years to finish before you can pick up the gun which means the gun stores have to have significant portions of their stock held on reservation for up to a year.
It also meant that if you got denied for your permit. You lost all your money. Gun sales are final and the most you could do is maybe get store credit back if you were lucky. All around a shit deal.
Well, now you can just get a pistol permit without a pistol. Imagine. So once you get your permit you still have to go buy a gun, get the receipt, go to the county clerks, have it amended and pay the fees for a new permit and wait weeks on end before you get a new permit back with the guns amended on it to go get them. But it's better than it was at least.
Speaking of which, three weeks now still waiting to get my handguns. Hoping it comes soon.

Don't worry I am in the same boat and I have yet to get a DBU email. Even worse is that I have to call them to change payment options since somebody stole my card that I put on the form and so I cancelled it. You should be good to go though any day now.

Jesus christ move to a free state
I can understand not wanting a .22 pattern ak or ar (why the fuck would you spend $400-500 on that anyway?) but something like an oldish marlin 60 is just really fun to shoot, plus .22lr is cheap here. The default sights kinda suck though, any cheapish decent sights for one?
$25 Simmons 4x32. All I've ever used on my Marlin 820. Personally, I love that scope more than my more expensive (I forget the brand and type, sorry) 3-9x42 on my deer rifle. The picture through it is crisp, it works pretty good in decently low light, and the eye relief is about perfect, unlike the second scope I mentioned.

I wasn't aware I could move. Thanks.
But yeah, working on it. These things. They take time.

What do you mean? You can pretty much just move to Wyoming for free.

This is literally worse than Canada. You get the license, you buy the gun, you wait anywhere from a day to 3 weeks for the CFO to manually complete the transfer, you pick the gun up after the store calls to say the transfer's gone through, and a registration certificate comes in the mail a few weeks later. No need to have anything amended at a clerk's office manually, no need to issue a new license because the registry and license are different things. If you have a license, you will get the gun. It's almost guaranteed. If not, you would have had your license revoked.
Haven't posted in here in a long time, but does anyone know what happened to 16bit? He used to post in these threads quite a bit, but hasn't been online in a long time.
So I may be getting a K98 next week. It also may only cost me $200.
yeah i just bought a turk mauser for $150 at a gun show
Hot damn. Nice. If this gun is what the guy says it is I'm gonna take it, because even Russian Capture K98s in shit condition are going for $650, and a good German one is at least $800. This one's apparently got an absolutely mint barrel, the guy thinks it was replaced post-war and stamped with the receiver's serial. He says everything matches but the mag floorplate.

Oh sorry I meant aftermarket iron sights, I already have an ok scope for it.
Should I buy a pre-Remington Marlin in 45-70 for A$1050? Comes with a 4x scope and 50 handloads.
[editline]6th March 2016[/editline]
It sounds like a good deal but I really should be saving.
Handloads would be worthless to me. No idea if they're safe to use. What brand scope?
As for value, I don't really know what the gun is worth in USD, let alone converting to AUD. Sorry.
Australia seized some weapons.
HMAS Darwin has seized over 2000 illegal firearms plus 100 rocket propelled grenade launchers in the Middle East Region.
The weapons cache included 1989 AK-47 assault rifles, 100 rocket propelled grenade launchers, 49 PKM general purpose machine guns, 39 PKM spare barrels and 20 60mm mortar tubes.
The weapons were seized under United Nations sanctions which authorise interdiction on the high seas of illicit weapons destined for Somalia.
$100 they'll be melted down.
Of course they will. Those guns are illegal, like, everywhere, especially Australia.

I'd probably pull the handloads and use the brass. 45-70 brass is about $2 each here. The scope is a 4x32 Redfield. No clue if those are any decent, but I'll probably get a 2x or 4x Leupold to replace it.
$100 they'll be melted down.
They may hold on to them. The US tends to hold on to such weapons so it can arm factions it agrees with. Not that such things generally work out real well, but arming your (current) friends is hard to resist when they are being snuffed out by your (current) enemies.

It would be politically untenable to do that in Australia. The guns will go overboard in deep ocean. It's what they usually do.

I live in Florida right now.
I'm not sure if you're using the right word there. I think you meant "worse in every way" instead of 'better'

Yes.
That's not much more than a new production Marlin in 45-70 goes for. At least in the states. Not sure about pricing in Ausland but that seems like a pretty good deal.

At first I thought they were siezed IN AUSTRALIA and I was like "what the fuck did they find another terrorist cell or some shit? That's enough to go to war" but then realized it said "in the middle east"

Actually I think, TECHNICALLY, RPG's are legal in America but you have to FIND one first, then pay a $200 tax stamp on the weapon itself AND a $200 tax stamp on every single grenade round.
Dumped overboard? You could make a sweet haul with some diving gear
Then again I know nothing about diving
The more you know!
