Went shooting today. No issues with any of the new guns thank god. My G26 doesn't brass me in the face every two shots. I got some more time in with the KSG. It's still a buggy piece of shit but I'm starting to run drills with it. I still struggle like every night on if I should sell it. I think it may be good to just get rid of it and buy a Bullpup Unlimited kit for my Mossberg. But the KSG is just cool looking and I'm worried about selling it to someone and having them come back and bitch about how shitty it is. Aside that my M1 Carbine continues to FTF and hang up in the chamber. I replaced all the springs so I don't know what else to try now. [editline]9th March 2016[/editline] I'll wait for it to break before I send it back. I have a year of free back-to-manufacturer shipping and than that glorious life-time warranty. A lot of people online say their ejectors rattle like that too and I shot it today without issue. So I'm cool with it.
What do you think of the G26? I just certified for my LTC with my dads G23. Trying to find a gun that's good for me, and was thinking about the G27 since to my understanding is just a smaller version of what I'm used to. I'm a small guy so if I'm ever going to carry i'm thinking it should be with something relatively small.
What sorta ar build is decent around $450-500? Taking into account part price fluctuations.
Not a whole lot these days. From decent manufacturers expect at minimum 549.99, and that's few and far between. A lot of the cheap $250-$300 uppers ive come across have had issues whether it be head spacing, misaligned gas blocks, cast bolts, out of spec parts, etc. IMO save your money and get something known to be decent, don't take a shot in the dark with the next hesse to be. It's a handful to say the least, even with a +1 base plate or pinkey rest.
If you have a year of free shipping and a lifetime warranty why wait? Send it back now and ask them to revisit the QC of the weapon. They definitely will. Also, please god tell me your KSG wasn't fully loaded for that drill If it was fully loaded that's just sad, 2 shots per tube, what the fuck
Because the rattling ejector is pretty common and if it isn't broken I don't really need to fix it says me. Rather not spend the time and effort if I need not. And the KSG only has two rounds in each tube for that drill. Because you have to practice with it since it's kinda unique the drill is two shots, switch tubes, two shots and than a combat reload. Not to say it isn't buggy but I fixed a lot of issues. So it runs sometimes. [editline]10th March 2016[/editline]
What do you think of the G26? I just certified for my LTC with my dads G23. I'm a small guy so if I'm ever going to carry i'm thinking it should be with something relatively small.
How small are you? I'm 5'7" or so and 205 pounds. Small build, bit of a gut. The Glock 26 is about perfect, any bigger and it won't work for me. I would always recommend getting the smallest gun you feel comfortable with first to carry. I have a Bodyguard 380 and I carry it literally every day, it's so small I don't notice it and I can put it in pockets and ankle holsters if I need too. When I needed a gun it was the BG380 I had on me because of this. The G26 is my "I'm off today and gotta do some errands and go out to dinner" gun. I've carried a Glock 19 in the past and it's do-able but I would rather not and I usually defaulted back to my BG380 purely because of size and weight of a bigger gun. But G26 has 11rds of 9mm which is more firepower than 7-shots of 380. So definitely an upgrade. And if you get a G27 it's about the same size.
Does anyone know what the deal with Vepr rifles is? I'm looking for a converted 7.62x39 model and the market is bone dry.
Does anyone know what the deal with Vepr rifles is? I'm looking for a converted 7.62x39 model and the market is bone dry.
Only new import VEPR's I've seen as of late are shotguns. Seems like they dried up during the last Obama import ban. Honestly just buy a converted Saiga or any other AKM. Veprs are nice but they're not worth the price tag IMO, especially if you're just buying a vanilla 7.62x39.
[t]https://i.gyazo.com/140ba246401b6b9f5f017ef0be4fb7f0.png[/t] I wanna die.
Hilarious how a few hour drive over the border turns him from a felon into a law abiding citizen. I hate this state.
Ah. To clarify, I just bought myself a Ruger AR556.
Why? Don't get me wrong I love Ruger products but why ever buy a prebuilt AR-15? You can build it yourself cheaper and make it exactly how you want instead of buying something prebuilt and then invariably changing one or more aspects of it to suit your preferences. Didn't you say there was a whole host of other QC issues with the gun such as metal burring and parts not fitting exactly together? [editline]10th March 2016[/editline]
Does anyone know what the deal with Vepr rifles is? I'm looking for a converted 7.62x39 model and the market is bone dry.
Pretty sure they were built by one of the companies that Obama banned from importing stuff after the Crimea thing. Which really bothers me because that's just hurting us they don't give a shit. Which was probably his plan. Anyway why do you want a 7.62x39 Vepr? You know they're single stack right? If you want something in 7.62x39 find yourself a nice AK [editline]10th March 2016[/editline]
[t]https://i.gyazo.com/140ba246401b6b9f5f017ef0be4fb7f0.png[/t] I wanna die.
That's a funny looking AK-47. :v:
I was gonna buy a 7.62x54 Vepr. They're really pretty, unique looking AK-types, but just priced too high for what they are, I decided. Supposedly the build quality justifies the price but it's still an AK. I'd probably trade my AR-15 for one but I wouldn't pay that much straight up.
I'd definitely get a Vepr in .308 or 7.62x54, but not an intermediate cartridge like 5.45x39, 5.56x45, or 7.62x39. Feels like a waste. Such an expensive rifle for a single stack AK/RPK. It's like the H&K SL8-6. They're sexy as fuck, but $1300+ for a single stack 5.56x45 is just... meh. I wish H&K would remake the SL8 series in 7.62x51 as a sort of DMR/hunting type rifle for the American market I'd love that.
How small are you? I'm 5'7" or so and 205 pounds. Small build, bit of a gut. The Glock 26 is about perfect, any bigger and it won't work for me.
5'3", 152~ pounds.
Fuck getting one in an intermediate cartridge. If you're going to do that build your own ak. I'll send you the tools. Just ask MAC, no issues sending him rivet tools. (you just have to send them back lol)
Did you even read my post? I said I felt like getting a VEPR in an intermediate cartridge was a waste when there are so many other options out there that aren't single stack rifles designed with hunting and long range shooting in mind.
Building guns scares me. I've toyed with the idea of building an AK on and off but I really don't know what all I need other than a parts kit and a receiver flat, and even then there's a billion different receiver options and I just want an underfolder AKM.
I'm not necessarily talking about the rattling ejector. Didn't you say there was a whole host of other QC issues with the gun such as metal burring and parts not fitting exactly together?
Nothing that has me concerned honestly. The ejector is annoying, the metal shavings in the slide I cleaned out in five seconds with a brush. The only other problems I have is that the slide-release is impossible to use, I don't know why but you have to use both hands to depress it sometimes. And I think there is way too much empty play in the trigger but those are just like, observations. The gun shoots fine so I don't really worry about it. My KSG on the other hand. I'm thinking about sending it into Kel-Tec and just paying for repairs. Like I said, I did all I could and it's better than it was but I've gotten to the point where I have literally no idea what I could try. But I know if I send it in not only will I pay a fuck-ton to ship it but I'll have to pay for repairs and parts out of pocket and I don't really have the money to go throwing around when they basically say "Yeah, we've got to replace the entire gun for you." Those are my only two trouble guns now. My M1 and my KSG and it sounds like the M1 has some issues I may not be able to determine or repair myself, which is shitty. The KSG is the same way, but rather if I could figure out WHY I could fix it. My only significant issue (which was an issue since I set out) on my KSG now is that it still doesn't chamber reliably. Like, you rack it back, a shell pops from the tube and when you rack it forward on occasion it will hang up on the lip of the chamber and just get stuck there. I can't imagine any way to fix it and it's an issue that's difficult to replicate without racking it a ton or shooting it.
sure, gonna hold you to that one. I live 5 mins from the westernmost airport in mainland norway, 20 minutes from a range I can get a key to go visit whenever ;) [editline]10th March 2016[/editline] sucks that you guys only get the SL-8 with single stack mags. the ones you can get here are only the type with double stack g36 type mags.
It does suck. But I'm holding out for the HK243 in America. H&K pls
Essays are easy, lab reports are a bitch.
If you're really interested you can PM me, I'd be glad to talk to you about it. Once you get into it, AK's are a little more complex than AR's.. which are about as complicated as a lego kit.
I don't have the money right now but if I did I'd be hitting you up.
No, VEPRs weren't banned, MOLOT is just changing importers to the FIME group, same as the Saigas were imported by. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/02/25/fime-group-to-be-exclusive-importer-of-molot/ [editline]10th March 2016[/editline]
If you're really interested you can PM me, I'd be glad to talk to you about it. You can get a complete receiver from NoDak Spud, they make just about every stamped type imaginable.
So I polished the feed ramp on my M1 Carbine. I think my primary issues are that the soft lead-tip bullets (which I acquired a lot of) get caught on the ramp. If I push up on the mag than it feeds properly so I guess there is just not a tight enough tolerance in the mag well. Now sure how to fix something like that.

You're paying shipping and that's it.
Kel-Tec has a lifetime unconditional warranty. You're paying shipping and that's it.
Pretty sure some of my repairs have thoroughly voided that warranty.
I fixed it. I think the magazine catch is worn? That's probably it. I fixed it by wrapping two strips of electrical tape around the mag well so that I shim up the mags so they're tight and stay appropriately fitted for the rounds to clear the feed ramp even if they're soft tips. I think that's like the third gun I've fixed with electrical tape.
Anyway why do you want a 7.62x39 Vepr? You know they're single stack right? If you want something in 7.62x39 find yourself a nice AK
One of the double stack conversions. I know what I want.
One of the double stack conversions. I know what I want.
Just get one of the dozens of quality AK's that are already double stack and don't need a silly conversion.
Just get one of the dozens of quality AK's that are already double stack and don't need a silly conversion.
Like I said, I know what I want, and it's not a normal AK. It's literally one part, the bullet guide. Then there's 922r concerns of course. I have a specific vision and it does not involve a normal AK. Ideally I'd find an Atlantic MD2.
It does suck. But I'm holding out for the HK243 in America. H&K pls
That will be the day hell freezes over, or the machine gun opens up again. Which ever comes first.
That will be the day hell freezes over, or the machine gun opens up again. Which ever comes first.
Why would it be "the day hell freezes over"? H&K already released the European version and from the very start of the project made it clear they were making one for the American market, hence why there's two variations. The HK243 and the HK293. One for Europe, one for America. Last I heard they were planning to or had already bought a factory in America to assemble them in country with American made parts so 922r compliance isn't an issue and they wouldn't have to contend with German export laws as well as American import laws. Not sure where they are in that process but I have faith, considering the European one is already released.
922r is impossible to enforce and would be an added charge tacked on if you fucked up. It's also really hard to fuck up following 922r (if you so chose)
I've heard numerous times that it only applies to importers and manufacturers, but considering that shouldering something "manufactures" another firearm when you're in ATF fantasy land, you're out of compliance if you insert the wrong magazine.
Why would it be "the day hell freezes over"? Just like the SL8 series was and the MR556 is. It needs to hit below $1500 if they want a hope and a prayer beyond the HK fanatics buying them. US market gets shat on by HK as far as their their rifle sales go.
