I can safely say I've had a horrible experience as a new AR-15 owner so far. So I got the SIG M400 Enhanced edition, and it comes with all Magpul furniture, as well as the flip sights. The only rail on the front of the gun is on the gas block. So the plastic flip sight is not a good option to put on the gas block rail. I decided I wanted a quad rail anyway, so I pick one up. Long story short, the rail wont snap together. It's just a hair too thick or something, and it wont snap into place on the barrel nut. So I return it, get another, same thing. So I take it to a gunsmith, and he says that he shaved some of the metal off the quad rail and made it fit. I have the suspicion that he didn't do anything to it other than try and squeeze it together, which I already tried. So I bumped the delta ring with my fist, and sure enough, PANG. The bottom half of the two piece quad rail comes off. So I take it back to him and now he's saying he thinks the rail just isn't going to work, and how he has one of those screw on quad rails that uses the screw-in barrel nut, and goes over the gas block. But he's going to have to replace my brand new gas block with a low profile gas block. And god forbid I don't like the new rail, because then it's going to have to go BACK to the gunsmith to put the old barrel nut back on and install the original Magpul rail. Never even shot the goddamned thing. I just want to get this over with. [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline] Anyone have experience with those Keymod free float rails? Expensive, but at this point I'm willing to do it just to make sure some shit is done right. He told me that the only downside to one of those rail systems is that, since it's only held onto the rifle in one place, if it were to be slammed against concrete or dropped out of a truck or some shit, it could knock the rail off alignment and seriously damage it. So if that's true, I don't plan on dropping my rifle ever, but the reduced durability concerns me.
those rails that fit in like a regular M4 handguard are usually made for airsoft guns. that's probably what you got
Opinions on the S&W M&P .40? Might have to be using that for a job here soon.
Hated the trigger, found it really difficult to detect the trigger reset. M&P's in .40 cal have frame cracking issues, but I heard and saw all of those horror stories yeeeaaaars ago, they have probably been fixed by now. I however really liked the M&P 9c, good size and felt great shooting it (despite the trigger).
Going to try and purchase the AK I was going to buy in a couple weeks a little earlier now that all of this is going on, hope to Christ another panic buy doesn't happen. Anyone else stocking up on Ammo/guns due to this?
Opinions on the S&W M&P .40? Might have to be using that for a job here soon.
buy a glock instead
My 1851 is here... good God, is it ever wonderful.
those rails that fit in like a regular M4 handguard are usually made for airsoft guns. that's probably what you got
Except for the Knights Armament type that the US military has fielded on most of their M4s. There are some very good and expensive free float AR handguards out there that mount securely. Shift away from Keymod towards M-Lok, keymod has issues with stressing failure points due to it's design.
those rails that fit in like a regular M4 handguard are usually made for airsoft guns. that's probably what you got
I'd be super impressed if they were. They were $150, and list multiple actual firearms on the box
[t]http://i.imgur.com/slC5ElO.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/UxMqXJq.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/hus4ztU.jpg[/t] I'm extremely impressed with the quality of this firearm. I've handled far more expensive, cartridge firearms with much worse fit and finish. Very well made, very well balanced, very pretty. If you're after one yourself, I got this one for $313 shipped at Cabela's but beware they will ship it with an adult signature (21+) required whether they're regulated in your area or not. They have cheaper, brass-framed models as low as $150. Snap one up.
You know, I've been thinking. With the shit going down in Cali today, what if they flat out banned "assault rifles"? Would everyone be grandfathered in? Or would they ask you to turn them in? I'm worried. I want to stock up a little bit, but what if (in some crazy ass scenario) they just required them to be turned in. All that useless ammo, and what about the cost of the gun? Would it just be "well that's what you get for buying a muderstick, criminal scum. Bad investment"?
There is no way that the American people would allow such an event to occur. There are so many groups, organizations, and influential politicians that would rather go to jail (or worse) if the decision was made to ban "assault rifles".
So I think my first handgun might be a Beretta 92 Compact, thoughts? Cheap ammo, good size for my smaller hands, and I'm already used to the 92 platform.
Mine doesnt get here till tomorrow D:
I spoke too soon. I went down and picked it up two hours ago. Fuuuuuuck, I got the dirt cheap brass base model and its still fuckin beatiful.

Panic buying at the slightest hint of gun control after or during a mass shooting is really insecure and detached from reality. Especially when no real serious word of legislature is even brought up by people capable of doing so. It's just grade-A paranoia fuel, and it doesn't help anybody whatsoever.
So I think my first handgun might be a Beretta 92 Compact, thoughts? Cheap ammo, good size for my smaller hands, and I'm already used to the 92 platform.
I personally look at the Beretta 92 in disgust. I don't know about in the US, but here in Australia they're about the same price as a SIG P226. If they're in the same price range in the US I'd direct you toward that.
There have been Inox on gunbroker in the past for less than $400 usd. 9mm is a good budget entry point for me personally and the 92 is my familiarity zone. I don't wanna go Glock or Sig cause I want something with an external saftey and decocker if possible.
Didn't Clinton enact a ban that outlawed "high capacity" magazines that only ended like ten years ago? An "assault guns" ban would only be taking that a step or two further. I don't really know much on the topic though. and jesus christ calm down nobody said anything about panic buying
Can we panic panic buy? Buy before the panic buying?

I'm afraid I'll scratch up the engravings so I don't want to get violent, but it seems very tight on mine. Didn't think I'd ever complain about tolerances being too precise.

The Feds and States must grandfather currently owned banned weapons for at least the first owner. Beyond that they have a little lee-way on how to restrict and forbid inheriting and passing down firearms.
And they won't do anything. People can bitch and moan on both sides but there's too much of a slogging through congress for anything major to be done, and an executive action would tarnish democrat reputation for years to come.

New family member [t]http://i.imgur.com/pafVyl0.jpg?1[/t] German K98k, Swastikas and Waffle stamps intact, but post-war Russian rearsenal, plummed bolt. All matching hold for bolt and magazine plate. The barrel is un-shot, it's absolutely pristine. Gonna pick up some ammo for it next time I stop in the gunshop. The price? I shit you not, $500. Picked it up in a local store and they gave me a free gun case with it since they ran out of socks. Today was a good day.
