Or build a small forge/smelter. I made one for about 10 bucks. Old metal bucked, plaster, sand and a hair-dryer. Melts copper, lead, aluminium, and gets steel hot enough to hammer.
what's wrong with a little lead poisoning to get the blood pumping
The vapour pressure of lead is ridiculous low at its melting point. I wouldn't be concerned about vapours. The only issue would be lead dust. [editline]13th April 2016[/editline] To be exact, the vapour pressure at 705C is 1 Pascal (yes, one). For comparison, water at 25C has a vapour pressure of 2.3kPa and mercury has a vapour pressure of of 1kPa at 175.6C. Of course, mercury is far more toxic than lead or water but it should give you an idea.
as a welder I have frequent bouts with zinc poisoning and it goes away in like 3 days
uh huh..
It basically means that it is fine to play around with lead as long as you have proper containment procedures, don't heat it to a plasma or try to snort/inject it, you will be all fine if you do none of that.
Nothin like the smell of metal fever to clear the senses
Final safety training course done! Just need a letter from farm owner and I'm set to sen this shit off finally. [editline]13th April 2016[/editline] Anyone heard anything about the Norinco JW15 rifles? Not expecting a whole lot of quality but just looking for a cheap range toy that can knock over a few rabbits.
I'm guessing Marlins and Mossbergs are too much after tariffs?
Depends on the price. I want a CZ452 but considering I need money for a clay shooting O/U I don't have a whole lot of money to drop on a rimfire.
My 1911-380 finally showed up! [t]http://i.imgur.com/JjpafJR.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/beKNJFi.jpg[/t] And just when I think I'm done with phoning Browning every week asking where it is, I notice it only has 1 mag, not 2. So back on the phone I got.
Have you looked at what modern muzzleloaders used for hunting fire? It's the same kind of copper jacketed or solid copper bullet everything else shoots.
Modern muzzleloaders are fucking cheating don't talk to me about modern muzzleloaders it's cheating [editline]12th April 2016[/editline] use lead ball or cast a pure lead bullet yourself don't use jacketed sabot rounds that's the cheatingest shit ever STAHP [editline]12th April 2016[/editline]
pure lead? what pretty much nobody shoots pure lead i can assure you way too soft to be useful, and it would leave a shit load of lead in the bore
I cast my own hardball bullets. 90% Lead, 7% Tin, 3% Antimony. It leaves very little fouling in the barrel and they are EXTREMELY accurate. .50 caliber, 320gr bullets, and I fire them with 110gr of black powder. [editline]12th April 2016[/editline]
when I'm casting rounds I just melt down wheel weights. they're easy to get for free.
I prefer to buy 50lb bags of magnum lead shot for reloading shotguns. I'd do wheel weights but I don't feel like pre-smelting them to remove the impurities (from my understanding they are EXTREMELY dirty) [editline]12th April 2016[/editline]
what's the best way to do this I saved a bunch of wheel weights from auto shop in high school for this exact purpose but only recently got around to getting a bp gun
You're gonna want to pre-smelt wheel weights because they're fairly dirty. Build yourself one of those back yard smelters (look on youtube or online for plans to make one big enough for you. King of Random has a really good design on his channel) so you can melt the wheel weights down. Smelt them down, remove the slag, and cast them into smaller ingots (use old muffin tins from someone's garage sale or some shit) then get yourself an electric drop furnace to melt the ingots down and mould them. I use this one, it works great: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/645810/lee-pro-4-20-lb-furnace-110-volt Then just get yourself some Lee moulds for whatever caliber you're working in. For my .50 cal bullets I use this: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/475901/lee-2-cavity-bullet-mold-50-320-real-50-caliber-517-diameter-320-grain-real
I'm guessing Marlins and Mossbergs are too much after tariffs?
The cheapest Mossburg .22 is like $400 in Oz. Norinco does basicly the same gun cheaper.
The cheapest Mossburg .22 is like $400 in Oz. Norinco does basicly the same gun cheaper.
So would you recommend just going with the Norinco JW15? I was looking at this package in particular http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/27289/norinco_jw15_rifle_scope_package_over_10000.html The 22" barrel one. Don't know if the scope is any good though, a bit suspicious that it doesn't tell you the brand name so I was also eyeing this.
They only come with one, not two. It's a pain in the ass but that's how they're shipping them.
The catalogue for 2015 specifically said it comes with 2, and the other people I know who have one got 2, so I expect 2, since I ordered the damn thing in 2015. [editline]13th April 2016[/editline] Well I'll be damned, I was sure I read in the catalogue that it had 2 magazines, but the 2015 catalogue has no such information in it. Maybe it was in the dealer's catalogue, I'll have to check next time I'm at work to see if I'm wrong or not. I swear that I know other people who got it and they got 2 mags, the case is even cut for 2 mags.

How's the trigger pull on it?
Trigger pull is fine, but a little awkward to get your finger on it comfortably given the small size of the gun. Also I definitely need to check the 2015 dealer's catalogue, since the 2016 one I found says they do indeed come with 1 mag, but if the 2015 one says they come with 2 then I'm entitled to 2. The 2015 consumer catalogue says nothing about number of mags.

I was looking for one when I found the Mossberg Plinkster 802. I got it for $250 AUD and it is pretty good for the money. 3/4 inch groups at 50m with super sonic ammo, takes down rabbits easily, and it weighs nothing.

I assumed it'd still be full-sized :v:
You're gonna want to pre-smelt wheel weights because they're fairly dirty. Maybe not long term but I can't drop a billion dollars on a set-up and I won't be shooting this gun that much.
Is it really just a miniature 1911? I assumed it'd still be full-sized :v:
Browning claims it's 85% the size of a .45 1911, but I swear the grip is thinner than that.

This kind of preparation to make your own bullets is cheap as fuck.
"billion dollars" It's a $60 forge and you can build the pre-smelter for like $10 worth of materials. This kind of preparation to make your own bullets is cheap as fuck.
I was exaggerating a bit, basically if I can't get by with a $20 mold and a cast iron pot I'm not going to bother because it's less drama in the short term to just buy the bullets pre-cast and I don't have to worry about myself being a fuck-up.
I don't use a pre-smelter, I just melt down the weights, scrape off the dross, and pour. all the crap you don't want just floats to the top.
Who made yours? Mine are just painted. Made in '99, marked for government use only. Forgot the manufacturer, I'll have to check when I get home.
Could it be some kind of textured/grippy finish for operators??? I've never seen any finished like that but all the ones I've owned/used have been very old. Either way if you hate it it sounds like it's just mixed into the paint so you could hit it with aircraft stripper and be done (the shells are aluminum so it won't hurt them)
man, what's with this gritty finish on the ar gi mags? feels like sandpaper and it flakes off in the magwell leaving a shiny surface below wherever they're scratched are they supposed to be like this?? my english alu mag has a flat smooth surface finish so this was kinda unexpected
More than likely it's rough parkerizing. That was a standard finish on the steel GI mags for years, although most manufacturers today have switched to a less abrasive finish.
That just looks like a shitty finish job :v: I've never seen an abrasive finish on a GI mag, even in the 60s vintage M16s and stuff I've looked at.

Stop being a weird lazy jew and do it right wtf lol [editline]13th April 2016[/editline]
I don't use a pre-smelter, I just melt down the weights, scrape off the dross, and pour. all the crap you don't want just floats to the top.
I don't like there being slag in my nice electric drop furnace.
I can get 100 454 round balls for 12 bucks and I'll be set for like 4 months at the rate I'm likely to shoot this gun. I'm just plinking, I'm not hunting or anything.
Are those Brownell's any good? Seems to be the cheapest option for some 20 rounders for my build.
