when you work with molten metals, the safety hazard isn't generally actual vapors, but metal fumes, which are absolutely produced when you cast metal bullets
as a safety engineer I wouldn't advise casting lead at home in the first place tbh, but if you really wanted to I would ensure you have a shitload of ventilation and a respirator with a P100 filter at minimum.

a fan if you're doing it outside or a range hood if you're doing it on your stove should be sufficient, and if not metal fume fever wears off in 3 days tops
Holy shit, I step away for a day and there's 40+ new posts. I was expecting an executive-order AWB or some shit. What the fuck guys.
On topic, my next gun is definitely going to be a CMP Garand, damn the wait. It's just a beautiful old rifle, and it's got a shit-ton of history attached. This is going to be at least a couple years down the line though, I've gotta rebuild my finances first.
I'm amazed by how many people still think "shoot to wound" is a viable thing to do in a defensive situation.
All cops should carry 22's!

Why didn't they just pepper-taze him in the leg?! Monsters!
All cops should carry JDJ pistols
If they really need to kill someone, they'll explode them. With that, the consequence of shooting indiscriminately is their arm explodes.

Woah, woah, woah. Hold up. You need to some New York triggers on those things. Helps with accuracy for when they really need to hit their target.
They are backed up to hell. People that sent their orders in in like January were still in limbo. You should get it relatively soon though, don't worry. The worst part is knowing if they even received your order.
Yeah, that was a big load of stress taken off my shoulders, not knowing if that money order I sent had actually gotten there or not!

Fumes and vapours are the same thing. My point still stands. You're not going to get an appreciable evaporation of lead at the temperatures you need to cast bullets when it has a vapour pressure of 1Pa at ~750C and even less at the ~450C used to cast bullets.
I discussed this with some engineers at work today and with out understanding of the topic we came to the conclusion that we should be far more worried about other contaminants in the lead than the lead itself.
Some people have suggested metal fever, which would be correct... if we were casting bullets using 10kC electric arcs, where the lead vaporises before forming a very fine dust which you breath in.
Do you have anything to reference your claim?
How does shooting indors or with no wind give you lead poisoning?
How does shooting indors or with no wind give you lead poisoning?
when a bullet hits something hard it kinda disintegrates and throws lead dust all over the place. with unjacketed bullets, that includes when it hits the rifling
How does shooting indors or with no wind give you lead poisoning?
If the indoor range does not have a ventilation system up to code, stop going to it. Lead will vaporize on impact, and depending on the gun and ammo, when fired. Also you have all the smoke from the powder to deal with.
what do you think?
unjacketed bullets spit lead around
fmjs with open lead bases do the same
Jeez I was just asking man, turn down the defensive hostility a notch.
Hey guys, I'd appreciate if you took time to fill out this survey about trapshooting that I need to do for class. It's my first time making a survey, so sorry if anything seems off.

Thanks guys!
You misspelled "several" on the last question. Other than that, looks good.

ok but if you're inhaling enough heavy metals to be getting metal fume fever, you're fucking yourself up long term in a very significant way. Lead especially is extremely bio-accumulative, your body doesnt filter it out very well, so it tends to get into your bloodstream and accumulate in your brain, where it causes all kinds of problems
like seriously, if you're a welder and you're getting metal fume fever with any kind of frequency, you need more PPE or engineering controls like ventilation if you dont want major heath issues down the road. chronic heavy metals exposure is nothing to fuck around with
Someone literally tried to tell me that saying that shooting to kill is the best practise in a defensive situation where you need to use a firearm to protect your life in a public forum counts as premeditation to first degree murder in the event I would ever actually need to.
lol, at least at most of the CCW places near me that's what they teach you.

Take the stock, optic and suppressor off and load up some frag rounds.
Instant Boltgun.

I doubt that, they should be saying "shoot to stop", in which case, if they don't stop, you shoot until they do, which may mean turning their brain off more quickly.
I've seen more training now emphasizing following the threat to the ground, because it's dangerous to assume that the threat has ceased once they hit the deck.
The intent is not to kill, but to stop the threat; if they die in the process it's regrettable (not really), but the point is you weren't trying to, and you didn't want to, but you had no choice/ had a right to be there.

A fair few programs actually advise you to shoot to kill so they can't sue you afterwards. It's not official instruction.

I emailed them asking if they offer a stockless AOW version. I was thinking the same exact thing.

Well I can understand where the mentality is coming from. Long story short if you're going to pull a gun on someone you better understand that there's a decent chance they're going away in a body bag. I think some people might hesitate when told "shoot to stop", since they don't understand the concept. From a PR standpoint it's a terrible way to try and curb that hesitation, but I think instructors need to do a better job in laying out the reality of it all. If you carry a gun unwilling to accept that you may have to kill someone you shouldn't be carrying, you are not prepared for the responsibility.

People are trying to get this banned, because apparently it's a fucking 'rapid fire', 'semi-automatic', 'loophole' weapon that'll cause the next Port Arthur massacre.

You have my sympathies, outback man. A world without sexy lever actions is a world i want no part in.

You monster. Why would anyone want to own such a destructive peace of machinery? People like you should be locked up. You're gonna be the cause of the next Port Arthur.
Sincerely,
The Greens
The controversy regarding that shotgun in Australia is literally why I want one here, even though I generally don't like levers. That and I need a duck gun, but they don't sell the 28" model here yet.
It seems like you could fire faster than a lever action with a pump shotgun anyways, so what the hell
