That part about the punch to the throat worries me, it only takes 150 pounds of force to collapse the trachea, which is not that much. Professional fighters can get up to 500 pounds in a choke hold.
So yeah, unless it is an absolute emergency, you could kill the person.
True, a really hard punch could possibly kill, but a moderate punch will leave him gasping for air. I'm not sure how much 150 pounds of force will actually be, but I suppose it's like a really hard punch, right?
The only reason someone would mug you is if they knew they could beat you, they don't want a challenge, just money so chances are they'll have a knife or a gun or be a lot stronger than you.
I got into a fight a couple years ago and I learned that if you are being choked, a good thing to do is reach both arms over your shoulders and grab his head and then bend over quickly so he flips over your shoulder.
The best way to win a fight is to stab them with your thumb in the neck below the Adams Apple.
also, got in a fight way back in school went straight down to the floor, but got up quickly and won, so if you trip, fall or get hit, not all hope is lost
Hope is not lost, but on the ground you're in a great disadvantage and you should get back up pretty quickly
From my experience I can say that sometimes a great life (and other valuable items!) saver is pepper spray! I saved my money a few times and my phone a helluva bunch! :eng101:
Hi that is a fucking STUPID idea.
Being on the ground is THE WORST place to be outside of a ring or dojo.
I have this same argument almost on a weekly basis with the brazilian jiu jitsu guys who train where I do boxing.
Congratulations, you're now tussling with a guy on the ground. Your mobility is limited, and your situation awareness has just been compromised. While you're rolling around trying to get him into an armbar or choke him out, he's buddies have just ran up and started stomping your fucking face into the pavement.
Or he just slips a blade in your ribs.
I'm not even going to mention stuff like broken glass oh wait I just did.
In a real fight you want the option to end the threat as violently and quickly as possible, and then get mobile and get the fuck out fast. I.E be on your feet ready to book it at a moment's notice.
9 times out of 10 a fight will end up on the ground. If you're on top then you have an advantage. Your mobility is restricted but keep him pinned there. If your underneath him then shit COULD hit the fan. You gotta out strengthen or out smart him to gain control again.
Some random tips.
If you ever need to disarm a guy with a handgun, grab with both hands near the front and push it away from you.
A good elbow strike will do more damage than a punch.
A good choke hold can take someone out in a few seconds.
Also, if you want to take lessons brazilian jiu jitsu is quite good.
Me and my friends got jumped by some chavs yesterday outside of mc donalds. Whilst we managed to fuck them up to the point that one was crying I didn't come out unscathed :(

My friend also managed to ride off with one of their bikes and I found one of their trainers on the floor and binned it.

You see the place where it says 'costal angle'? That's the area you have to strike.

I was punched directly in this spot before, it stopped me dead in my tracks. It knocked the wind out of me and I could barely see or hear for a couple minutes. Any harder and I'm guessing I would have been out.
It fucking hurt.

Pro tip: breathe out before trying to breathe in. It's not going to make the pain magically go away but you can recover faster.

Marc Macyoung. Look him up. Read his work.
Then come back and tell me if you still think wrestling on the ground in a street fight is a good idea.
I swear some of you kids have this retarded notion that fighting in the real world is still a schoolyard brawl between two guys.
I have some amateur tips.
You know if you apply enough force on the xiphoid process, at the end of the sternum, it will break off.
Doesn't take that much force, as its common for it to break when Cardio-pulmonary-resuscitation (CPR) is followed out on someone in cardiac arrest/heart failure.
I would imagine the sheer snap or feeling of having that broken off would be frightening for the attacker.
Also you can also try and break the ulna (the shortest/weaker bone in the lower arm) or try and break the fibula, the smaller, weaker bone on the lower leg, it is facing AWAY the body, while the ulna is facing towards, so your better off trying to break a fibula, as its a bone in the lower leg, weaker and easier to get too.
I have a personal belief of NEVER, EVER being on the ground for ANY reason in a fight. Always be standing and have a solid base.
Also, breaking the collar bone is no harder than breaking a twig. If the person you're fighting leaves an open spot to be hit there do it then and now no exceptions. Imagine you're breaking a fairly thick twig when you're striking
My belief is that I should just run away from a fight. It's a pussy move and people will make fun of me but hey - I won't get hurt.
I'm a pretty weak, skinny, small guy. Any advice for in case I get into a fight I can't get out of?

You look 8 years old.
If your pinned and you have a weapon, what would be your best option?

well you're pinned so you're fucked anyways since you wouldn't be able to move

I've noticed a lot of FPers supposedly look younger than they really are.

I've been training in Jeet Kune Do for a good year now, but there's still so much to learn. My instructor is great, though. He basically would take us through different scenarios, including a school fight, and teach different techniques that are effective and completely non-lethal. Then, he'd teach the lethal version incase we're ever in that situation.
Our main lesson is that you should do your best to avoid the fight. Be a total pussy, because with what you learn and what you do in a fight could injure someone severely or kill them on accident. I'm just glad I haven't really been put in a situation where I had to avoid a fight.
If someone has you in a headlock i've found the best thing to do is (if they're around the same height as you or a little shorter is smash you're head backwards. The back of you're skull is much stronger than his nose.

unless it's bruce lee because if you keep fighting after he gets you in a headlock he will break your neck

16 brudda. But I agree, I'm tiny.
1. Stick fist in anus.
2. Spread Hands out
3. Rotate wrist back and forth.
4. Grab walling in ass and rip out.
Air Force combo is throat punch then groin kick.. since "attackers always expect the groin kick first".
Basically our BMT book said throat punches are one of the best ways to disarm someone, and then later groin is another great way but not to do it first cause an attacker will expect that sort of thing.. so some of us call it the air force combo. Not that we would actually do that though.
OP did good on the post though.. pretty informative.
Decent way of getting out of headlocks: Once again, not something you'd do in a high school fight, but if the opportunity arises you'll be bent over in a headlock, with him standing in front of you and to either the left or right.
Interlace your fingers like this, holding it tight like this

And swing into his knee. You have the chance of blowing the persons knee out.. which will take anyone down. You've removed the physical function of a leg. This is a last ditch attempt really because you're not necessarily gonna get a chance to do it.
