every city is like that. nottingham had a really bangin campus, i remember thinking how nice it looked. usually the student areas aren't too bad cause they're close to uni, but some places are absolute shitholes and you don't wanna walk down em by yourself at night
I just got completely shafted by my friends on a group project. They gave me the hardest section, which didn't have an obvious solution and required quite a lot of thought, i.e. I spent a few days trying to come up with solutions basically all day. I then spent a load of time in my room designing it and implementing it multiple times to find the best one. I got a little bit of help from another group member who did logic minimisation largely in parallel to ensure it was actually minimal and functional. They've decided that none of the time I spent on it really counts for anything because they didn't watch me doing it. We have 100 points to distribute for the work, and they've all decided on 24/20/14(me)/14/14/14, i.e. I get less than 1/6 of the credit and the same amount as the fuck who didn't test her design and went away for the weekend, leaving the work to one of the other guys. The 14s are to make room for giving the people she left her work to more for the extra work they did, rather than just giving them her marks as it should be. I can just not sign the form and force a discussion with the lecturer, but he's not the best and it'd be starting a fight in my uni friendship group.

It was a uni group project and one guy just didn't do anything. We'd give him stuff to do, watch him type something for a few minutes and he'd just pack his stuff away and go home never to actually finish it. When it came to the point allocation it turned out everyone just went 20/20/20/20/20 across the board so he got as many marks as the other members who had do to their bit AND his. I'd just complain to the lecturer and tell them the story. They're not friends if they're going to fuck you out of marks when you did the lion's share of the work. If they actually listen to what happened, they may "tweak" your mark on the sly to level it out a bit (happened with my group. They neutered the lazy arsehole's marks after he sent the form in).
Everyone I know from nottingham keeps saying it's a rough place. I went there for a uni interview and the place seemed really nice. Maybe there's just rough neighbourhoods in the residential areas.
I live in Nottingham, it's fine if you stick close to town but if you walk about 15 minutes in most directions from the town square you'll end up in a rough area. I don't think it is as bad as people say, it just has a bit of a bad reputation because we used to be the gun crime capital of the UK and it kind of stuck even after crime went down.
"Sleep" has become unbearable. I can lie down for a few hours but then it becomes agony. The fitted sheet does nothing. Maybe it's a kidney thing, I seem to be keenly aware of my kidneys some days and that can't be a good thing...

I had the same sort of thing happen to me but I just rolled with the punches cause it was my first year and overall grade didn't really matter. I single handedly wrote the report that was worth 40% of the assignment overall. none of the group realised how difficult it was and assumed it was easy since they didn't tackle it. I nailed the report but it was awful. one of the members even had the audacity of removing my name from the front page when I put myself down as the editor. if that happened in 2nd or 3rd year where grade matters, I'd definitely complain and tell the lecturer it's not cool at all. fuck group projects, people turn into assholes.
I just burnt my sausages. Sat down and watched youtube vids cause I cba standing around whilst they cook. I didn't think the heat was that high, but they burnt and tasted pretty bad. I still ate them but it was a horrible start to the day.
I'm assuming you shallow fried them? I always stand over a frying pan because I've had pan 3 fires before. And it was always when I've been away from the pan
yeah shallow fried, but I'm not a big enough idiot to leave the heat that high when I go away. I just kinda ended up with charred sausages on one side and they'd been left over the heat too long so they were dry. I goofed up, but was never at risk of a pan fire. I've got a mini extinguisher under the kitchen sink just in case :ok:
shit i almost always leave my pans unattended i'd never considered it [editline]31st October 2017[/editline] it's cool to leave like pasta on the boil though right? [editline]31st October 2017[/editline] i learnt y=mx+c at school but not how to not burn down my apartment building
i mean pan fires only really happen if you leave it on a high heat unattended for a long time. like to the point where the oil starts smoking. if i ever leave shit, it's only if i'm cooking with lots of water (ie boiling) or if i have it on a very low gas. pan fires don't happen with water you goober, so leaving pasta boiling is fine. worst that'd happen is the water boils away or gets soaked up by the pasta and then it all burns on the bottom and ruins your pot. frying stuff at a high heat will cause the oil to smoke then the food to set fire and bam you got a pan fire. but just throw a damp towel over it and take it off the heat. [editline]31st October 2017[/editline] also, this is the first morning i've woken up in weeks where i feel wide awake and energised. was getting worried for a second cause i was waking up day feeling tired to my fuckin bones. seriously sapped so much motivation to do shit.

We're having a meeting at 2, I'm going to go in and stand my ground. Tbh I think it's a bit like loopoo's situation where I kinda just did it all and they assume it was easy (casually ignoring all the other groups putting half the group on it :suicide:). I'm just going to point out that if we are giving extra marks to the guy who did the person who fucked offs work they should take them from her, not all of us.
I normally cook em under the grill or in the oven if I can, mostly so I don't have to stand over the pan and get hot oil spitting at me
worst thing about frying is the oil splatter getting everywhere. i've got oil all over the walls and the bottles of cooking oil i keep near the stove. fuck. also 2nd year mech eng life is basically turning up to lectures, seeing the lecturers are absolute garbage, and sweating cause you know you're gonna have to sit down with a big beefy book on stress and dynamics and teach yourself.
Reporting back, in the end they gave me 16 and we called it a day. Minimal social issues with an acceptable outcome I'll take it.
Tried to do skull makeup for Halloweiner last night. Didn't look good so I washed it off. Didn't realize until this morning some of it was still in the crevices of my eyesockets so when I yawned when I woke up and my eyes watered, I ended up with massive black streaks running down my face. It looked kind of cool.
Reporting back, in the end they gave me 16 and we called it a day.
worst thing about frying is the oil splatter getting everywhere. i've got oil all over the walls and the bottles of cooking oil i keep near the stove. fuck.
Yeah fuck that, stick some foil on a grill pan and when you're done you can just throw it away
So I decided to apply to Amazon and I get a call half an hour later asking when I can start.
So I decided to apply to Amazon and I get a call half an hour later asking when I can start.
have fun bro, a friend of mine worked all summer as a warehouse assistant and he said it was fucking awful.
have fun bro, a friend of mine worked all summer as a warehouse assistant and he said it was fucking awful.
I normally would not consider it but they are the only people who have shown any interest in me. 100% sure it is because I am leaving again in January
We didn't speak to the lecturer, I basically had just made it very clear that I was unhappy with it and they compromised on it.
fair play to you. i still think them giving you 16 for such a hard topic is a bit on the unfair side. group projects really showcase three types of people: 1) the selfish fuckers who only give a shit about the mark they get 2) the lazy fuckers that do the bare minimum and submit work that is pretty much trash 3) the no shows, who go the entire semester showing their face once or twice, and never doing any work
it's ridiculous. i've got weekly labs and i'm stuck in a group where none of my lab partners speak english, so i have such a rough time of it cause it's pretty much me figuring shit out on my own and my lab partners being unable to help cause their english isn't good enough then i look at my mates who are in groups with people who speak and understand english fluently and it's just utter shite.
So I decided to apply to Amazon and I get a call half an hour later asking when I can start.
You around Fareham?
It's done now, without major issues in my social group which I was somewhat afraid of and at least at the place I get to work each summer they really appreciate my work, and that's where I'll be for most of my life, not uni. Plus my lab partner is lovely, when we had the first argument about it over messenger he walked over to my room and gave me a hug. [img]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img] Thanks for the support and help :)
Trick or treating kids took all the sweets we had, and they ended taking all my rockys as well
You around Fareham?
Nope, Central Scotland. Going to be working at Dunfermline.
So far there have been zero trick or treaters, but I think that's down to the fact my local area is full of old people and it seems nobody gives a fuck about Halloween. Compared to 5 years ago we had competitions on which road had the best pumpkin and this autistic kid used to knock on doors and give your carved pumpkin a rating. Oh well, gonna go watch bake off and eat all the sweets now.

Just got back from work (express shop) and I'm pretty sure there's more trick-or-treaters round this area than ever before. 'course it meant I had to stop a bunch of kids from buying eggs to throw at people, but my walk back home was practically paved with egg yolk so I guess it didn't really matter :v:
