Cheers for the Tesco replies, yeah, ngl, thought he was doing it cause of me and it pissed me off a little bit. Kids have also been shits since the dawn of time, there's graffiti that was found on some wall in Egypt where it was some old guy complaining about the youth of today and how all hope was lost for future generations. "Back in my day..." kind of vibe, always been around. I think it's just due to the way shit changes so drastically between generations, kids growing up today have a very, very different childhood to what mine was in the 90s.

been up all night cause I couldn't sleep and fuck the feeling of tossing and turning in bed for 4 hours straight. dreading today, 9am start at uni and it's full on workshop day til 5pm, so gonna be using lathes, milling machines, all sorts to complete this group project. today's gonna be an absolute bitch. i reckon by about 1pm i'll be delirious and tripping balls from sleep deprivation, and then 3pm i'll feel sick and call it quits and go home to sleep.
Maplin is dead and so is my job. oh well. Goodbye overpriced HDMI cables [editline]9th March 2018[/editline] All Maplin stores are in closing down mode by the way. We've got roughly two months left.

Wws Maplin doing that bad? Might be my Norwegian idea, but I didn’t find too much overpriced there...
Wws Maplin doing that bad? Might be my Norwegian idea, but I didn’t find too much overpriced there...
The only reason to go to Maplin over Amazon or other online stores was if you needed something the same day, really. Often it would be cheaper to pay the extra for next day delivery too. [editline]9th March 2018[/editline] Or if you needed advice / information, Maplin always seemed to have very competent staff compared to PC World etc.
I just used it for SD cards and camera bits when I was on my way to a shoot. wouldn't surprise me in the next few years we see game and a few other electronic stores go down, the internet is sadly taking over the markets really.
That’s true, but it was always great to have I suppose. Pc World is shit though. Kinda different with games though, since you have physical media for shopping and such. But it’s very plausable, just look at Blockbuster
I made it, lads. I survived til 5pm and I was still a productive member of the group, got a shit tonne done and had loads of bants with the workshop guys (they're actually such a legitimately chill group of guys). awesome day, but i'm gonna go sleep for 16 hours cause my brain feels like it's leaking out. i'm also in some weird caffeine limbo where i sorta feel the effects of the coffee but am tripping balls at the same time
fuck that sucks, the maplin near me is way too overpriced to buy anything but at least i always knew there was a place to go in an absolute emergency to get cables/mice/keyboards
Argos
Argos
yeah there's a few options but my local maplin is literally round the corner and across the road so it was a nice luxury.
Argos
Argos is actually great. I don't use them very often but the ability to reserve something online and just pick it up is really good. The fact that most of them are on trading estates helps too, not having to park miles away only to find what you want isn't in stock
I feel like a dick for asking, but does this mean sales? :v:
Don't worry about that, everyone's been asking me this ever since the news about administation broke out. Yes, all Maplin stores as of today have entered closing period, which means all stock is on sale, ranging from 10% to 50% off(barely anything is at 50% off don't get too excited). The sooner a store sells its stock, the sooner it's thrown into abyss and shuts its doors. My store today has done incredible figures in sales because of the closing down sale, better numbers than some pre-Xmas days...At least plenty of people said "sorry to hear that wish you stayed". My manager took a few days off and he said not to message/call him, he said he'll be 'away' taking his time. We know what a true Englishman would do - get drunk. I'm worried about him. Say what you want about Maplin, but my store manager is legit one of, if not the best manager in entire business. London division manager relies on my store manager so much, he trusts him with training new assistant managers and sales team leaders. He used to be a division(whole of London) manager for a bit but came back to my store because he liked it more than being manager of every store in London. He put his soul and heart into our store and he always tries to do his best. He isn't flawless, mind you(nobody is), but Maplin isn't all filled with grumpy managers and mindless sales assistants, as I've read people call us on the net. I feel sorry for him, it must be a heartbreak for him. :( [editline]9th March 2018[/editline]
Wws Maplin doing that bad? Might be my Norwegian idea, but I didn’t find too much overpriced there...
Yes, we've been doing bad for years. As a Russian I found it incredibly overpriced, coming from a poor country with overpriced literally anything(not Russia, I'm from Latvia) it is overpriced as shit, but somehow it was still afloat. We've been anticipating this to happen, and it finally did. I don't mean to sound like I 'wanted' it to happen, I just mean that it was bound to happen and was essentially a ticking bomb, and I thought about it ever since I started working in Maplin a year and a half ago. "unfortunately we don't have that one in stock and the display model is damaged" "what about that beige one?" "we don't stock that one anymore" "do you have any chairs at all?" "no, those are all from christmas and we don't have any in stock" Stop displaying them ya daft cunts
I was mean't to go to Tesco today to get a picture with the Iggle Piggle machine that this store has (for a meme), more so to get mothers day stuff but I ended up sleeping in because I've been going out every day this week except for today of course. Luckily my sister saved the day with all the mothers day gifts though. Still sad Maplin is going into administration, I can't remember last going into one but I've heard nothing but good things about them.
Also I really don't think we'll even last two months and the £100 gift for your store for the "best closing sale setup" seems like a right piss take.
dude I laughed out loud at that, what the fuck even is that, where are you getting those £100 from??? "Make it look like we are going down in STYLE and win mad dosh that we couldn't invest into anything better that could potentially help the business!" Nah £100 wouldn't do shit, but come on, £100 for fancy closing down display? PFFFFFFFff
Back Inna UK, looked round my new house. My new neighbours are disgusting and have AstroTurf/fake grass in their garden. My garden has a massive deck that I want to pull up and replace with real grass Gonna move all our shit over today
You can check stock online
Yeah sorry that's what I meant Argos has over other shops. I went to bed barely an hour after posting that :v: [editline]10th March 2018[/editline] Seriously I can't get over the fake grass stuff, it looks shit and is probably bad for nature and that

"Low maintenance back garden"
Letting agent won't let one of my housemates use her guarantor because her mum's on a zero hour contract. Fuck sake. They let us pay the admin fee and gave us a move in date. Fuck.

"Low maintenance back garden"
We've just moved into this fresh build. Our neighbour are having AstroTurf laid, the entire left side of that Central fence. It's going to look fucking horrible. [T]https://i.imgur.com/w6800gg.jpg[/T]
My current neighbours have astro turf and are an utterly monstrous pain in the ass, I'm talking badly playing the drums at 9AM on a Saturday and a dog that is in the back garden barking around the clock Is there a correlation?
Just lost my pack of six 1st class stamps. Christ, that's my weeks wages gone.
went to my local maplins today hoping i'd find something useful to purchase in the closing down sale. it was all still too expensive even after discounts
had something I ordered from amazon that was meant to come yesterday. it got delayed and was delivered on saturday instead. i set the delivery location as my post office as I was gonna be busy all day on friday. post office closes at 1:30pm. i left at 1:15pm and got there at 1:20pm, and they were closed. feels bad man, especially knowing if I just called them up at 1pm and said "I'm on my way, don't close early" they would have more than likely still been open for me to pick my package up. but i can sort of understand, closing smack on at 1:30pm would probably leave them dealing with irritating customers (like me)
went to kick the cold corpse of maplin today. felt sad. discounts are no good.
only just recovered from me aftershow party for the uni society performance I was managing 6 months of work from the cast, such a talented bunch, and my first proper attempt at "making a show". Shame it was only two nights, got my sound engineer pal to help out, and I designed and operated the lights. So happy, but so sad it's over :'( [t]https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/28700782_10155564248897675_3920201560595796804_o.jpg?oh=bf480ad2b7d1ec7019a41ed13a4bef8c&oe=5B3C4363[/t][t]https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/28619438_10155564248712675_2996893881464053865_o.jpg?oh=48e5d35b9510de62ef26809dea70324e&oe=5B3A0830[/t][t]https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/28828155_10155564248512675_4137202226696547152_o.jpg?oh=8ee2d759b0feab559d9278782571bb64&oe=5B391007[/t]
Is it strange I was looking for loss in the background with the arms in different positions?
