Clacton-on-sea is where hope goes to die, but probably not the worst.
Ipswich can get pretty dire but has improved in recent years
I don't look at this thread too often, but I'm an indecisive dude and like me some second opinions so
All my computer science offers/rejections are through and I'm left with newcastle, exeter and southampton - I kinda have an idea of which one I want to choose, but I was wondering what people's experiences with 'em were
danke
The centre of Swindon seemed to be the holding pen for the Jeremy Kyle show and overflow from Primark.
Gloucester is depressing. Which is weird because it's surrounded by nice places - Cheltenham etc.
Small towns in northern England are full of scum and villainy.
If you like nights out, you really can't beat Newcastle it's fucking amazing
It's all part of the rough charm though. In my training class for work I'm the only one from Liverpool while everyone is from around Chester and Crew. They keep joking that I'm going to nick everything because I'm from Liverpool and I don't even have a thick accent. I'm just known as 'Scouse Jimmy'.
Some of the blurts are from Ellesmere Port so what are they gonna criticise.
Clacton is pretty fucking dire. But I was recently working in Stanford le Hope, and that place is a complete and utter hole.
I was in the Tesco Express there, buying a bottle of water and behind me was a woman in her late 40s with a kid, no older than 5. He picked up a six pack of Wotsits and yelled (not asked, not said, he shouted), "NAN, GET THESE!" She looked at me and rolled her eyes in an indulgent manner (to contrast my shock I hadn't quite managed to hide) and said to the kid, "Oh I'm not sure, last time I had a pack of those they went missing pretty sharp". And the kid yells back,
"YEAH THAT WAS ME NAN, I NICKED 'EM!"
"You nicked 'em?"
"YEAH I NICKED 'EM"
"Well, maybe if you ask next time, you won't have to nick 'em behind my back".
What a shithole.
Yeah true, northerners usually unite tho when southerners get involved from my experience.
If I were in your situation - definitely Newcastle.
Hear the nightlife is pretty great and it's Northern so cheap.
I've never actually been though - only through on the East Coast Mainline when travelling back down South from Scotland. The Tyne looks nice though.
I went to Northumbria uni's open day for a similar course, and pissed about the town a bit. It's a great city, basically a smaller London without the £6 price tag on a pint.
I know a few people who went to Newcastle uni and they loved it. Truth be told I'm still very miffed I didn't get enough UCAS points to get in. Even had a lass smiling at me on the tram, thought it was a sign from God.
Yes lads, Newcastle best. House of Sniff is a good time.
A lot of people rag on Clacton, but Jaywick is within walking distance from there, and is about 20 times worse. It looks like some sort of post-apocalyptic shanty town.
Southampton's compsci is pretty great and our computing labs are probably the best in the country (we're getting more upgraded next year). City wise it's alright, we have quite a few nice pubs and clubs (plus the worst club in Europe - was second, but the worst one burned down). Purely course wise I think it's probably the best of the three but obviously there are other factors.
ah, someone else who knows the misery of Gloucester. it's remarkable just how fast the place has gone downhill though. i mean it was always horrid, but it seems like the homelessness and drug use really fucking spiked within the last year or two. or maybe i'm just paying more attention now.
Isn't that because it mostly is? Most of those house/hut things were meant to be holiday home/chalers, never built to last that long, never meant for permanent residence. Poorest town in Britain or something like that
Hi did the UK explode yet
You're a year early
Honestly having spent a little time in Jaywick I think it's easy to rag on it for being poor but I've had some good run ins with the locals
Clacton's depressing on a few other levels other than just aesthetics.
Aye, I don't like saying this place or that place is shit, mostly cos that's someone's home. Not everyone can choose where they live. And in truth I've never been somewhere and had an experience bad enough to write the whole place off
can't u just backspace 'em?
A moment of silence for Grainger Games
Rarely bought games from there but in the last year or so they sold some good card & board games as well as selling Pop figures a bit cheaper. Hell just last month I got some cool as Warhammer 40k merch from the Metro Centre store.
That's a shame, there was one right next to GAME in Nottingham and they were always a little bit cheaper.
Really upset at what happened to Grainger Games. They became my go to since Game has been a bit terrible these past few years. Still won't beat Gamestation or EB though. I had a feeling something may have been off as their prices were a little steeper than what I remembered.
I accidentally got cherry coke and I tried it anyway and it's not terrible is something wrong with me?
Cherry coke is the best coke tbh
I go mad for Citrus Diet coke
I have dreams about it
My Grandad lives in Jaywick and we visit him a lot. Can confirm it is fucking depressing. He lives right next to the beach but no matter what time of year we go down there it's always empty. Probably because nobody in their right mind would want to spend a day out in Jaywick
